Delhi University: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 354 Reviews

The college admission process is competitive yet selective, ensuring that only well-qualified candidates gain entry. Faculty members are highly educated, many with Ph.D. degrees from prestigious institutions, although the student-to-faculty ratio varies widely, commonly around 1:50. While faculty are supportive and interactive, some students note a lack of individual attention. The curriculum includes two semester exams annually, with internal assessments and practicals. Despite some outdated content and occasional class cancellations, the education quality remains high, supported by affordable fees maintained by the central government.

Tuition fees range from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 40,000 per year, with scholarships available for merit and need-based aid. The college's placement program is robust, with top companies like Wipro, TCS, Infosys, and Amazon offering roles. Placement packages range from Rs. 2 to 40 lakh per annum, with an average of Rs. 5 to 9 lakh per annum, and placement rates can reach up to 95% for some programs. The placement cell is efficient, providing workshops and seminars to prepare students for employment.

Internships are plentiful, with participation from major firms and startups. The college also offers the Shrimati Rikha Devi Memorial Scholarship and other merit-based scholarships. Overall, the college provides a balanced education of quality and affordability, with strong placement prospects, particularly for commerce students.

Fees and Financial Aid:

When I took admission, I paid around 10,525 in total for the first year. That included everything — tuition fee, admission and registration charges, development fee, and then all the usual stuff like library, exam fees, ID card, union fund, and caution money. From second year onwards, now for the basic tuition fee, and some regular admin stuff — around 9000 to 10000 per year. So by the time I finish my degree, the total fee I’ll have paid will be somewhere around 30000-32000. I’m from the General - EWS category, so I didn’t get any automatic fee waiver. But I know a few of my batchmates from SC/ST and PwD categories, and their tuition fees are completely waived — their total yearly fee is honestly less than 1,000 only.

I'm currently a 19-year-old BCom Hons student at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (SBSC), DU, and here’s my honest review of the fee structure and scholarship details. In my first year, I paid around 17,500 as a general category student. This included tuition fees, admission charges, development fees, exam fees, and other compulsory charges like student welfare, society funds, and library security. The tuition was somewhere around 6,000, and the rest added up with things like sports, NSS, electricity, and ID card charges. There’s a slight increase in fees every year, around 1,500–2,000, depending on the batch.
