Delhi University Cutoff FAQs

Ques. Should a student choose a better course in a lower-ranked Delhi University college or a less preferred course in a top Delhi University college because of the cutoff?

Ans. It depends on the student’s long-term goal. If they are sure about a subject, a better course in a lower-ranked college can be useful. But if the student values exposure, peers, and opportunities, a top college with a less preferred course may still offer better overall growth.

Ques. If a student is only 10 - 20 marks below last year’s Delhi University cutoff, do they still have a realistic chance of getting admission?

Ans. Yes, there can still be a chance, but it is not guaranteed. Delhi University cutoffs change every year based on competition and seat availability. Sometimes marks drop in later rounds, so students should stay hopeful and apply in multiple rounds without relying only on previous trends.

Ques. Why do students with similar CUET scores get different Delhi University colleges?

Ans. Students with similar CUET scores may get different colleges due to course preferences, category differences, seat availability, and cutoff shifts in each round. Even slight variations in choice filling order or reservation categories can change allotment results significantly across Delhi University colleges.

Ques. Should one trust seniors who say “college is more important than course” while looking at Delhi University cutoffs?

Ans. This advice is partly true but not absolute. A good college can provide exposure, networks, and opportunities, but the course decides academic interest and future direction. Students should balance both factors instead of blindly following seniors’ opinions. Personal interest and career goals should guide the final decision.

Delhi University: 7 Answered Questions

What was DU BBA Cutoff for all colleges?

Sapna Malik
Vanita Patel

DU BBA cutoffs are now through CUET UG scores (since 2022) — not 12th board marks anymore. so "cutoffs" now refer to CUET scores, not percentage marks.

top DU BBA colleges and their approximate CUET competitiveness (General category):

  • SSCBS (Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies): India's top BBA college, extremely competitive — near-perfect CUET scores required. DU's most sought-after BBA
  • DCAC (Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College): second most popular BBA, still very competitive
  • Keshav Mahavidyalaya: slightly lower cutoff than the above
  • Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Maharaja Agrasen: moderately competitive

for current year cutoffs, check the DU admission portal (du.ac.in) after CUET results are announced. each college announces their CUET score cutoffs via the CSAS (Common Seat Allocation System) portal. don't rely on old percentage-based cutoffs — those are outdated since CUET replaced them.

What is the cutoff for DU Btech?

Anil Choudhary

okay so first — DU BTech and DTU are totally different colleges, a LOT of people mix this up so flagging early lol

for University of Delhi (actual DU) BTech, admission is through JEE Main via JAC Delhi counseling. 2024 general category closing ranks:

  • CSE: opening ~21,499 | closing ~38,020
  • ECE: closing around 55,000–65,000
  • Mechanical / Civil: closes 1,00,000+ easily

if you're a Delhi student you compete in the 85% home quota which is a massive advantage. outside Delhi? 15% seats only, much tighter cutoffs. also — cutoffs in later JAC rounds (3-4) drop by 2,000–5,000 ranks from round 1 so don't freeze choices too early. always verify on the JAC Delhi portal before locking!

What is the CW category cutoff in the Delhi University? I have not seen the CW list published in the DU UG lists.

Utsav KamraStudied B.Sc from University of Delhi

The DU information Bulletin makes little mention of the procedure/selection under the CW category. Because there is no separate cut-off for this category, it is impossible to know whether one is eligible for the first, second, or third cut-off, and so on.

PROCEDURE:

  1. Report on time for your priority category in the central conference hall near the Department of Botany on North Campus. Keep in mind that no documents are required for the CW category, but you should have an education concession certificate in the same format as described in DU information Bulletin, and the letterhead should include your complete address and contact information so that they can verify your certification. In addition, you should bring the PPO, DISCHARGE BOOK/SERVICE BOOK, and all other related documents in both original and self-attested copies.

  2. If you have all of the required documents, they will give you a form to fill out with your information and preferences for colleges and courses in priority order.

  3. You will receive an admission provisional slip addressed to the college's principal, most likely from the Administrative Block/Conference Hall, with your name on it.

  4. When you receive the provisional admission slip, you have completed 80% of the process. After receiving your provisional slip, report to your assigned college with all of your documents in original and one set of self-attested copies. However, before enrolling in college, you must apply through the DU website student Dashboard. Take a printout of the same under the link that is still active.

  5. Once the college has approved your admission, pay the fee immediately. There is no need to postpone the process to secure your admission.

What is the minimum cutoff for admission in Delhi University?

Sugandhi Sood
Sonia Kashyapstudied M.A in English from Hindu College, University of Delhi (2021)

The cut-off depends on your choice of course and college. It varies every year and it can be as high as 99% and as low as 40%.

To give you a rough idea of DU Cut off, you require at least 94% marks for admission to science subjects. For commerce stream courses like B.Com, you must have scored 94% in the top 4 subjects including a language.

On the other hand, the cut-off for Humanities subjects must be between 90-92%. If you are interested in doing Hindi (Hons) or Sanskrit (Hons), the cut-off is very low for these programs. You can easily get a seat at St.Stephens with 66% marks in Sanskrit (Hons).

For South Campus, you can reduce 2-3% from the ones mentioned above. Take a look at the previous year’s DU cut-off for better understanding.
