Delhi University Ranking 2026

Ans. Delhi University (DU) received three important positions in the NIRF 2025 rankings. It was ranked 5th among universities with a score of 67.38, 15th in the Overall category with a score of 66.19, and 12th among Research Institutions. The 5th rank in the University category is DU's highest-ever position in this category. The NIRF 2025 rankings were announced on September 4, 2025, by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Ans. Delhi University has improved its position in several global rankings. In the QS World University Rankings 2027, DU is ranked =322 in the world. In the THE World University Rankings 2026, it is placed in the 601–800 band, which is better than its 801–1000 position in 2025. In the ARWU 2025 rankings, DU falls in the 601–700 band globally. DU's QS ranking improved from =407 in 2024 to =328 in 2025, and its overall QS score also increased from 33.8 to 42.6 by 2026.

Ans. In the NIRF 2025 University category, JNU is ranked 2nd, while Delhi University is 5th. In the Overall category, JNU is 9th and DU is 15th. BHU is ranked 6th among universities, just one position below DU. However, DU performs better than JNU in some areas. In the QS global rankings, DU is ranked =328, while JNU is in the 601–650 range. DU also ranks 12th in NIRF Research Institutions, compared to 21st for JNU. In India Today 2025, DU was ranked 1st and JNU 2nd among General Government Universities. In Outlook 2025, JNU was 1st, BHU 2nd, and DU 3rd among Central Universities.

Ans. Delhi University colleges performed extremely well in the NIRF 2025 Colleges category. The top five colleges in India are all affiliated with DU. These are Hindu College (Rank 1, Score 84.01), Miranda House (Rank 2, Score 83.20), Hans Raj College (Rank 3), Kirori Mal College (Rank 4), and St. Stephen's College (Rank 5). Overall, 32 DU colleges were included in the top 100 colleges in India. NIRF does not release a separate ranking list only for DU colleges; these rankings come from the national Colleges category.

Ans. The reason is that QS and NIRF use different methods to calculate rankings. In the NIRF Overall rankings, DU competes with institutions such as IITs, AIIMS, and IISc, which score very highly in engineering, science, and medical research. Since DU is mainly known for its strong programs in humanities, social sciences, commerce, and other multidisciplinary subjects, its NIRF score is affected. On the other hand, QS gives significant importance to Academic Reputation and Employer Reputation, which together contribute around 40% of the total score. Because of DU's long history, strong reputation, and large alumni network, it performs very well in these areas. DU's QS Employment Outcomes ranking of 30th globally in 2026 also shows that employers value DU graduates highly, helping the university achieve a better position in QS rankings than in NIRF Overall rankings.
