DTU Admission Process

B.Tech (Flagship Programme)

B.Tech admissions at DTU are entirely merit-based through JEE Main scores, processed via JAC Delhi - NOT through JoSAA. This distinction is critical: NIT and IIT applicants use JoSAA, while DTU (and NSUT, IIIT Delhi) use the separate JAC Delhi portal.

  • Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics; minimum 75% aggregate (or top 20 percentile of respective board)
  • Entrance: JEE Main - any session score is valid; best score used for merit ranking
  • Seat matrix: 85% of B.Tech seats are reserved for Delhi domicile candidates; remaining 15% are open to all-India candidates
  • Counselling stages: Online registration on JAC Delhi portal, choice filling and locking, provisional allotment, document verification at reporting centre, fee payment to confirm seat

Indicative JEE Main closing ranks (JAC Delhi 2026, General Category) for high-demand specialisations were approximately 9,170 for CSE (Delhi region) and 3,430 for CSE (outside Delhi). IT and Software Engineering closing ranks were in the range of 10,000 to 25,000 for Delhi candidates and 5,000 to 12,000 for outside Delhi candidates.

MBA (Delhi School of Management)

  • Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with minimum 50% aggregate; final-year students are eligible to apply
  • Entrance: Valid CAT, MAT, or CMAT score
  • Selection stages: Score-based shortlisting, followed by Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) conducted by DSM at the DTU campus
  • Specialisations: Business Analytics, Finance, IT, HR, Marketing, Operations, and others - candidates indicate preference at the time of counselling

M.Tech and Postgraduate Engineering

  • Eligibility: GATE-qualified candidates with relevant B.Tech/BE in the respective discipline
  • Selection: GATE score-based merit ranking; DTU conducts its own admission process separate from CCMT
  • Stipend: GATE-qualified M.Tech students receive government stipend of INR 12,400 per month (AICTE prescribed)

Other Programmes

BBA, B.Des, BA (Hons.) Economics, and allied UG programmes are admitted through CUET UG scores and merit. M.Sc admissions use JAM (Joint Admission to M.Sc) or DTU entrance tests, depending on the discipline. PhD admissions require a qualifying degree (Master’s or equivalent) and performance in GATE, UGC-NET, or the DTU PhD entrance examination, followed by an interview.

DTU Placements

DTU B.Tech placements 2025 marked a strong season, with 1,486 total offers from over 350 companies across technology, finance, consulting, and core engineering sectors. The overall average CTC stood at INR 15.75 LPA. The highest domestic offer reached INR 85 LPA, and the highest international offer was INR 1.80 CPA from Palantir (London), extended to a Software Engineering student.

Performance varied significantly across specialisations, with CSE, SE, and IT recording the highest averages. The table below shows the branch-wise average CTC for the three highest-performing specialisations in 2025.

SpecialisationAverage CTC (2025)
Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)INR 19.85 LPA
Software Engineering (SE)INR 18.46 LPA

Private scholarships including those from technology companies are also available to eligible students on application through the student welfare office. National Scholarship Portal (NSP) schemes are applicable to all UGC-recognised institutions including DTU, giving eligible students access to PM-USP and other central government scholarships.

DTU Campus and Infrastructure

The main DTU campus spans 164 acres at Bawana Road, Sector-17 adjoining, Rohini, Delhi - a location that the institution moved to in 1996 from its original Kashmere Gate site. The campus includes a main academic block, departmental buildings, research laboratories, a central library housing over 2,03,064 books, computer centres, and an auditorium with open-air theatre.

DTU maintains 13 hostels - 10 for boys and 3 for girls - with total accommodation for over 2,500 students. Girls hostel capacity is approximately 793 seats. Hostel rooms are available in single, double, and triple occupancy configurations, with annual hostel fees ranging from INR 52,000 to INR 72,000 (excluding mess charges of approximately INR 34,800 per year). All hostels have Wi-Fi access, study rooms, common recreation areas, and 24-hour security.

Campus sports infrastructure includes a sports complex with multiple grounds, a gymnasium, and facilities for cricket, football, basketball, and badminton. A central cafeteria, departmental labs, and the DTU Innovation Centre (housing 50+ incubated startups) complete the main campus facilities. The East Delhi Campus serves students in management and allied programmes.

DTU vs NSUT Delhi vs NIT Warangal

Aspirants targeting top government engineering colleges in or near Delhi often compare DTU with its sister institution NSUT (Netaji Subhas University of Technology), also a Delhi state university operating through JAC Delhi. NIT Warangal, a centrally-funded NIT in Telangana, is a natural comparison for JEE aspirants weighing a higher-ranked NIT outside Delhi against the regional advantage of DTU or NSUT within Delhi.

DTU leads among Delhi state universities in NIRF Engineering and research output. NSUT offers lower fees and similar admission criteria, making it the fallback for many DTU aspirants within Delhi. NIT Warangal is a stronger engineering institution overall in NIRF rankings, offers lower fees (central funding), but requires all-India JEE Main competitiveness without any regional cushion - a significant trade-off for Delhi-domicile candidates who benefit from DTU’s 85% Delhi quota.

DTU FAQs

Ques. Is DTU admission through JoSAA or JAC Delhi?

Ans. DTU admissions are through JAC Delhi (Joint Admission Counselling), NOT JoSAA. JoSAA is for IITs and NITs. DTU, NSUT, IIIT Delhi, and IGDTUW are part of the JAC Delhi process. JEE Main qualifiers need to separately register on the JAC Delhi portal to participate in seat allocation rounds for DTU B.Tech programmes.

Ques. What is the DTU JEE Main cutoff 2026 for CSE?

Ans. In JAC Delhi 2026, the indicative closing JEE Main rank for CSE (Delhi region, General Category) was approximately 9,170. For outside Delhi General Category, the closing rank was around 3,430. These figures are from Round 1 of JAC Delhi 2026 and may change in subsequent rounds and years. SC, ST, and OBC categories have higher closing ranks (numerically lower competition thresholds).

Ques. What are the B.Tech placement statistics at DTU?

Ans. In the 2025 B.Tech placement season, DTU recorded an overall average CTC of INR 15.75 LPA. CSE was the top-performing branch with an average of INR 19.85 LPA. The highest domestic offer was INR 85 LPA and the highest international offer was INR 1.80 CPA from Palantir (London). Over 1,486 offers were made by 350+ companies including Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, and McKinsey.

Ques. What is the total fee for B.Tech at DTU Delhi?

Ans. The total B.Tech fee at DTU is INR 11.10 Lakhs over 4 years, starting with approximately INR 2.36 Lakhs in Year 1. This is among the lowest for a NIRF top-30 Engineering institution in India. Students from families with annual income below INR 4.5 Lakhs are eligible for fee waivers of 25% to 100%, further reducing the net cost.

Ques. Is DTU better than NSUT for B.Tech?

Ans. DTU holds a higher NIRF Engineering rank (#30) compared to NSUT and generally reports higher placement averages, particularly in the CSE and IT branches. Both use the same JAC Delhi counselling with 85% Delhi quota. DTU’s B.Tech fee is slightly higher than NSUT, and CSE cutoff ranks at DTU are tighter (lower closing ranks than NSUT). For high JEE Main scorers from Delhi, DTU CSE/SE/IT is the preferred choice. NSUT becomes a strong fallback for candidates who miss DTU’s closing rank in their preferred branch.

Ques. Does DTU offer hostel accommodation to all students?

Ans. DTU has 13 hostels accommodating over 2,500 students - 10 boys hostels and 3 girls hostels. Since B.Tech annual intake alone is 2,514 students, hostel seats are limited relative to the enrolled student population. Priority in hostel allotment is typically given to first-year students from outside Delhi. Annual hostel fees range from INR 52,000 to INR 72,000 per year, with separate mess charges.

Ques. What is DTU’s NIRF ranking 2025?

Ans. DTU holds three NIRF 2025 ranks: Engineering category - 30th nationally (score: 60.85); University category - 42nd nationally (score: 54.88); and among State Public Universities - 13th nationally. DTU is the highest-ranked government engineering university in Delhi in the NIRF Engineering list for 2025.

Ques. What scholarships are available at DTU?

Ans. DTU provides income-based tuition fee waivers of 25% to 100% for students with family income below INR 4.5 Lakhs annually. SC/ST students receive full tuition fee exemption. GATE-qualified M.Tech students receive a government stipend of INR 12,400 per month. Central government Merit-cum-Means scholarships and National Scholarship Portal (NSP) schemes are also available to eligible students. Education loans through government bank tie-ups are also facilitated by the institution.

DTU: 533 Answered Questions

Which should my daughter choose, a CSE from IGDTUW or a ECE from NSIT/DTU/IIIT Delhi?

Sapna Malik
Kavita Yadav

this is actually a really good question and the answer depends on what career path your daughter is aiming for.

CSE at IGDTUW — it's an all-women's government university in Delhi, excellent campus environment for women students, strong alumni network in Delhi tech companies, government college fees (very affordable), and CSE is the best branch to be in for software careers. the women-only campus is a genuine advantage in terms of safety and focused academic culture.

ECE at NSIT/DTU/IIIT Delhi — all three are mixed-gender, more prestigious institutions. IIIT Delhi ECE specifically is excellent for tech — the institute has a strong coding culture and ECE students regularly get SWE roles. DTU and NSUT ECE are decent but the branch doesn't give the same software career advantage as CSE.

honest recommendation:

  • if she wants a software/tech career — CSE at IGDTUW is probably better than ECE at DTU/NSUT. branch matters more than college here
  • if the option is ECE at IIIT Delhi specifically — that's a tough call, IIIT Delhi is genuinely strong and ECE students do well in placements there
  • for family comfort and safety — IGDTUW being all-women and govt-managed is a significant factor for many families

I have Delhi quota and defence quota, what should be my AIR to get into DTU, NSIT , IIIT Delhi or NIT Delhi?

Sabeer Chalana
Vaishali Roy

if you have both Delhi state quota AND defence quota, here's how it works at DTU/NSUT:

Delhi state quota: 85% of seats at DTU, NSUT, IIIT Delhi reserved for students who passed 12th from Delhi schools. significantly lowers the required rank.

Defence quota: separate 5% horizontal reservation for children/dependents of defence personnel (serving/retired/ex-servicemen) at these colleges. this is across all categories.

when you have both Delhi state + defence quota combined: your effective competition pool is very small — you're competing only against other Delhi-domicile defence quota candidates. the cutoff rank for this specific category is significantly lower than the regular Delhi quota.

realistic AIR for DTU via Delhi+Defence quota:

  • DTU CSE: students with both quotas have gotten in with JEE Main ranks in the 5,000-15,000 range (vs. ~1,500-2,000 for general Delhi quota)
  • DTU ECE/EE: even higher ranks possible, sometimes 20,000-40,000 range

apply through JAC Delhi counseling (jac.delhi.gov.in). select both Delhi state and defence category when filling the form. make sure you have the correct documents (domicile certificate + defence ID/discharge book). specific cutoffs vary yearly.

Can I get into DTU with 90 Percentile?

Sushmita Reddy

so with 90 percentile your JEE rank is around 1,08,000–1,24,000. getting into DTU is possible but branch options are limited.

what you can realistically get at DTU with 90 percentile:

  • Chemical Engineering — decent chance
  • Civil Engineering — good chance
  • Biotechnology / Environmental Engg — strong chance
  • CSE / IT / Mech / ECE — not happening, those need 98–99 percentile

big thing most people miss — Delhi quota only applies if you studied class 11 and 12 from Delhi. not just if you live in Delhi. if you're from another state your cutoffs are way tighter. if you have Delhi quota and 90 percentile, lower branches are totally doable. if you don't, honestly weigh whether a better branch at a decent NIT beats DTU Chemical. also wait for later JAC rounds — cutoffs drop and seats open up!

I got 94 percentile in JEE Main. Can I get a decent branch at DTU?

Kartik Sharma

94 percentile JEE Main = roughly rank 55,000-65,000. DTU (Delhi Technological University) at this score — here's the picture:

Important: DTU admissions are through JAC Delhi counseling, NOT JoSAA. Delhi students get 85% seats (Delhi quota), outside Delhi students compete for 15% seats. At 94 percentile Delhi quota you have decent options; outside Delhi is very tough.

If Delhi home state:

  • CSE at DTU: likely out (closes ~97-98+ percentile Delhi quota)
  • IT, ECE, EE: might open in later rounds at 94 percentile Delhi quota
  • Mech, Civil, Environmental: more accessible at this score

If outside Delhi:

  • DTU outside Delhi quota is very competitive. 94 percentile for outside Delhi quota gets you at best Mech/Civil, not CS/IT/ECE
  • Better to target DTU equivalent colleges in your home state

pro tip: apply to all JAC Delhi rounds and put your preferred branches. Cutoffs drop by 2-3 percentile points between round 1 and round 4. Also simultaneously apply to JoSAA for NITs — at 94 percentile you can get mid-tier NITs in non-CS branches. Don't put all eggs in the DTU basket.

Should I go for B.Tech Automotive Engineering in DTU or BE Electrical Engineering in Jadavpur University?

FancyFate

In terms of fees and ROI, Jadavpur University’s BE in Electrical Engineering seems to offer a more stable financial choice compared to DTU's B.Tech in Automotive Engineering. The fees at Jadavpur are lower and increase gradually, while DTU's fees rise significantly each year, which can add up over time. Although DTU has good placement opportunities with top tech companies, Jadavpur's reputation and strong alumni network in electrical engineering could provide a similar or even better career boost without the higher financial burden. If you're keen on automotive engineering and prefer a vibrant campus life, DTU might appeal to you, but for a more cost-effective route with solid prospects in engineering, Jadavpur University is the smarter pick.
