DTU Courses & Fees FAQs

Ques. What is the fee structure of DTU?

Ans. DTU fees are lower compared to private colleges. Some students feel the fees have increased in recent years, which makes it slightly expensive for middle-class families. But the return is good because of placements and college reputation. There are also scholarships and fee concessions for reserved categories and financially weaker students.

Ques. Are there any hidden charges apart from tuition fees?

Ans. Apart from tuition fees, students usually have to pay charges for hostel, mess, examination fees, and some small academic or activity-related fees. These are not exactly hidden, but many students don’t notice them at the beginning. The mess fee is usually monthly, and it can add up over time. Some students also mention that you might need to spend on books, projects, or personal expenses. So overall, while tuition is the main cost, your total spending will be slightly higher when you include everything.

Ques. How are the courses at DTU and are they updated with current industry needs?

Ans. The courses at DTU are decent. In the first year, you mostly study the same basic subjects which every engineering student studies, so it can feel a bit boring at times. Later, when your core subjects start, things get more relevant to your branch. Some topics feel a bit old, and many students don’t depend fully on college for skills. Most people learn coding, tools, or practical stuff on their own.

DTU: 2 Answered Questions

Should I opt for DTU mechanical or IIIT Delhi CSE?

Sanjana KapoorLives in New Delhi

The choice depends on what matters the most to you.

If placements, faculty and research opportunities are your top most priority, choose IIIT Delhi CSE. In this respect, IIITD CSE beats DTU Mechanical by a large margin. But if you want the best of campus, college environment, cultural fests and brand name, DTU Mechanical is a much better choice.

I would personally recommend IIIT Delhi, as it offers top notch placements. But if you’re truly passionate about Mechanical, choose that branch. Do not take your interest for granted while choosing your branch/degree.

Are courses in DTU and NSIT flexible? Can students from lower branches study a minor in C.S. easily?

Akriti Banerjeelives in New Delhi

As an NSUT student, the new CBCS (choice based credit system) allows you to choose your fields of study. This makes for more flexible courses. Also, NSUT has an excellent coding environment which will help you for your minor in Computer Science. Many students over there pursue coding, despite being from a branch other than IT/COE.

In DTU, you will have electives starting from 5th semester. These are department and general electives. IIIT Delhi offers the most flexible courses. Other than some fixed category credits, all the subjects are choice based.

Thus, in terms of providing flexible courses, this is the order of preference- IIITD> NSUT>DTU.
