Should you pick M.Tech IT at DTU?

This course suits students who want a software job and can live in a Delhi campus for two years.

Pick it if:
You have a strong GATE score: DTU gives GATE students first chance, so keep documents ready for round 1.
You want software and data roles: the branch-wise placement table lists the software and analytics recruiters in each of the last three years.
Your family wants a public fee: you pay the tuition fee in eight parts, and a request to split it further opens every August.
You want the fee back fast: at the average pay the full course fee comes back inside the first working year, as the ROI tile shows.
Skip it if:
You are counting on last year's cutoff score: GATE lists move by category, so one old score is not a safe score.
You need hostel for sure: first-years share three to a room and hostel rooms open only from year 2.
You want internships in a Delhi: this is a Delhi campus, so the placement cell and Delhi offices bring most projects here.
You will decide after round 1: the seat can be filled by then, so finish your form and fee work early.
Counsellor's advice
Freeze this branch if round 1 gives it to you on a General score. If you are Reserved and below the round 1 close, float it and keep a safer college above it.
M.Tech IT Eligibility▾

In short
NSUT has a similar Delhi tech market and a little lower fee, but DTU shows a higher average pay here. If both call you, pick by department fit and travel time.
In short
IIIT Delhi pays more on average but costs more and asks for a higher score. If your GATE score clears it and the fee works, compare the course list before you choose.
In short
NIT Delhi costs less but has fewer seats and a lower average pay here. If DTU gives you the seat, take it unless you need the lower fee first.
In short
Jamia costs less and has more seats, but the pay figure is lower here. If money is the main limit, keep it near DTU in your list.
In short
IGDTUW costs less and suits women students who want a Delhi campus. If DTU is allotted first, take DTU for the bigger alumni base.

Fees and pay can change. Check each college site before you decide.

FAQs on DTU M.Tech IT

Straight answers to what students ask before they decide.

Is M.Tech IT at this college worth the fee?▾
Yes, for most students who get placed. The full fee without hostel is INR 2.58 Lakhs and the last batch averaged INR 11 LPA, so the fee comes back within the first working year. If a loan will pay the fee, read the EMI line in the fee block above before you decide.
Should I take this seat if my score is just above the cutoff score?▾
Not on last year's number alone. The General General seat closed at score 600 in round 1 and it got tougher three years in a row, so a score that just cleared last year may miss this year. Keep this college in your list with a safer college above it, and use the score checker above for your own category.
What job will I get after this course?▾
Most students get software jobs with product and IT services companies that hire on campus in the seventh semester. The latest batch averaged INR 11 LPA, the median was INR 10 LPA and 85% of the batch was placed. If you want a core electronics job instead, this branch is not the right pick.
Who should not take this course here?▾
Skip it if you need a hostel room from the first year, or if you want internships in a Delhi. First-years share three to a room and hostel rooms open only from year 2. The campus is in a Delhi campus, so the placement cell brings most internships and few come on their own. If either of these matters more than the placement figures, pick a city college.
Is this course good for higher studies and research?▾
Yes, if you plan for it from year 2. The course has no minor and no specialisation before year 2, but the electives in year 2 and 4 cover machine learning and networks, and the final project can lead to a research paper. Talk to the department in year 2 about a project with a faculty member, because that is what a good master's application needs.
Should I wait a year and try for a better score?▾
Only if you can raise your score by a lot, not a little. The General cutoff score got tougher three years in a row, so a small gain may still miss the seat next year. If you already clear this year's cutoff, take the seat now and try a branch change after year 1 if you want a sibling branch.
Will I get placed if I am in the bottom half of the batch?▾
Most likely yes, but later and at a lower package. 85% of the last batch was placed, and the median of INR 10 LPA is lower than the average of INR 11 LPA because the last students take the smaller offers. Keep your CGPA above the cutoff the companies set, usually 7, and join the placement training the cell holds in year 2.
Is this branch better than ECE at this college for me?▾
Pick IT if you want a software job and ECE if you want a core electronics job. IT places a bigger share of its batch with product companies, and its cutoff score is the tougher of the two. If you get ECE now and want IT, the branch change after year 1 needs a top CGPA, so do not count on it.
How do I get admission to this course?▾
Take the GATE exam and fill this college in your DTU counselling choice list. A seat comes in the round your score clears, and you must accept it and pay the seat fee within the days DTU counselling gives. Then report with your papers on the date in the admission dates block above, or you lose the seat.
What is the full fee for the course?▾
The full 2-year fee is INR 2.58 Lakhs without hostel. With hostel and mess it comes to INR 5 Lakhs. Both totals sit in the fee block above, and the toggle there shows what the hostel adds each year.
Can I pay the fee in parts?▾
Yes. You pay the tuition fee semester by semester, so the money is never due all at once. If you need smaller parts than that, write to the fee office before the semester starts; the request opens every August.
Do I get the fee back if I drop the seat?▾
It depends on when you leave. If you leave before the counselling body's exit date, most of the fee comes back. If you leave after it, the college keeps a part, so read the refund table in the fee block before you pay.

DTU: 2 Answered Questions

Should I opt for DTU mechanical or IIIT Delhi CSE?

Sanjana KapoorLives in New Delhi

The choice depends on what matters the most to you.

If placements, faculty and research opportunities are your top most priority, choose IIIT Delhi CSE. In this respect, IIITD CSE beats DTU Mechanical by a large margin. But if you want the best of campus, college environment, cultural fests and brand name, DTU Mechanical is a much better choice.

I would personally recommend IIIT Delhi, as it offers top notch placements. But if you’re truly passionate about Mechanical, choose that branch. Do not take your interest for granted while choosing your branch/degree.

Are courses in DTU and NSIT flexible? Can students from lower branches study a minor in C.S. easily?

Akriti Banerjeelives in New Delhi

As an NSUT student, the new CBCS (choice based credit system) allows you to choose your fields of study. This makes for more flexible courses. Also, NSUT has an excellent coding environment which will help you for your minor in Computer Science. Many students over there pursue coding, despite being from a branch other than IT/COE.

In DTU, you will have electives starting from 5th semester. These are department and general electives. IIIT Delhi offers the most flexible courses. Other than some fixed category credits, all the subjects are choice based.

Thus, in terms of providing flexible courses, this is the order of preference- IIITD> NSUT>DTU.
