DTU: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 13 Reviews

The Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program at Delhi Technological University (DTU) offers a promising educational experience with a focus on self-driven learning. The faculty, mostly comprising IITians, NITians, and professionals from Architecture, Fine Arts, and Design, are generally helpful despite some lacking psychological understanding. The faculty-student ratio can be challenging, with classes often having around 70-80 students per teacher, though Design courses have approximately 60 students per section. The curriculum emphasizes practical exams and project presentations.

The tuition fee for the program is Rs. 1.61 lakhs annually, with a 10-15% increase each year. Hostel fees are around Rs. 30,000, and students typically spend an additional Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 6,000 monthly on materials. DTU has a strong placement track record, particularly for IT/CS graduates, with average packages over 10 LPA and top recruiters like Microsoft, Apple, and Google. The highest package for Design students reached 1.8 crore, with an average of 10-12 LPA.

Approximately 80% of students secure placements, with others pursuing off-campus opportunities or further studies. Internships, available from the third year, offer stipends ranging from 3k to 20k. Scholarships are available for SC/ST and OBC students, with SC/ST eligible for up to a 100% fee waiver and OBC for 50%. Economically weaker students can also apply for financial aid. The annual course fee ranges from Rs. 2,14,000 to Rs. 2,50,000, totaling roughly Rs.

10,00,000 over four years, excluding hostel and material costs. Reserved category students pay between Rs. 1,40,000 to Rs. 1,80,000. Scholarships based on merit and need, like the NTSE, are also available. Including hostel and food, the total cost is approximately Rs. 15-16 lakhs over four years. Despite annual fee increases, DTU remains affordable compared to other design colleges in India.

DTU: 1 Answered Question

Is a B.Des. from DTU a good option?

Sanjana KapoorStudied at DTU

My friend was in the second batch of this course. She was hesitant initially as the course was relatively new and everyone was against her idea of taking it. She believed that everything is new initially and someone has to take it to make it old.

India has a very limited number of design colleges and it’s quite difficult to make it into one. The limited options and the huge crowd makes the completion tougher.

  • Faculties: The faculty of Design at DTU comprises highly qualified professors from IITs, NIDs, and highly renowned colleges like the Royal College of Art, UK. They will be your mentors and guide you excellently.
  • Value: DTU enjoys a good brand value that will be reflected in your degree. Its rich legacy will open multiple doors of opportunities for you.
  • Internships: The internship opportunities are great offering tremendous exposure and industrial experience.
  • Placements: Decent companies approach design students and offer good packages after acknowledging your skills.
  • Infrastructure: Many labs are under construction such as CAD Lab, Soft and Hard material lab, and 3D Printing Lab. Other infrastructural facilities include a 159-acre campus and a library well-stocked with design books.
  • Curriculum: The curriculum has been designed at par with foreign as well as IIT IDC Syllabi. The Course has specialization in the fields of Product Design, Visual Communication Design, and Interaction Design.

Ultimately, bear in mind the fact that this course is new and it will take years for its credibility to reflect.

Fees and Financial Aid:

My annual fees for my 4 years in college range from 214000 to 250000. Each year the fees would increase by about 20 percent. I am writting this as a general category student without any reservations or scholarships, etc. For reserved category, the fees can range from 140000 to 180000 (approx). For scholarships, there are financial aids provided to a select few of around 75000 to students annually. And other merit based scholarships like NTSE clearing student scholarships is also applicable here. Considering the fees in other colleges and schools for Design in India, This college comes under much affordable options.

The fees of my course is Rs. 2,29,000 per year. Since it is a 4 year course, thereore it makes approximately Rs. 10,00,000 for 4 years, excluding hostel and study material. Apart from this, there are no extra charges and I think it's a reasonable amount.

Fees and Financial Aid:

The fee structure is not very good, you have to pay the fees for the whole year, all at once in the starting of the year and not in a s semester wise pattern, and there are a few scholarship opportunities for students from ews category and various other categories. Though the fees are also high compared to other centre run universities.

Fees and Financial Aid:

The cost to study, compared to other colleges, is fairly average as its not too mcuh or too cheap. As it is one of the best colleges in design, I would say the fee is pretty fair. Scholarships are available but i am not too sure about campus jobs.

The fees taked upfront is about 2.5 lakhs during the admission process we had to bring demand draft. Then sem by sem you have to pay the rest though their website. Totally fees round up to 10 to 12 lakhs without hostel and mess charges. There are also scholarship option but not directly from the college.

Fees and Financial Aid:

The fees at DTU are really high and quite unreasonable because there is not much that you can teach in Design. There is an increment of 10k in fees every year. Unlike NIDs and NIFTs which have state-of-the-art facilities, DTU does not have much to offer you for this hefty sum of money that you pay.

The fee is quite high as 2.19 is already high enough but every year there is an increase of 10k and every year revised fee for admission also increases by 10k there are scholarship opportunities by merit list or other govt scholarships. But there is also extra expenses for stationary as it is a course where you use 10-15 A3 size sheet in 1 day.
