JNU FAQs 2026

Ques. How is life at JNU for MA students? Is it all hectic, or do students also get time to enjoy themselves?

Ans. Life at JNU for MA students is a mix of hard work and campus fun. The studies can be demanding, with lots of reading, seminars, and self-study, but flexible schedules make it easier to manage. Alongside academics, students enjoy hostel life, cultural fests, debates, clubs, and hanging out at dhabas. Politics and activism are a regular part of campus life, which may feel new at first. Overall, JNU offers a challenging but enjoyable experience with space for both learning and social life.

Ques. What is it like to study at Jawaharlal Nehru University?

Ans. Life at JNU for MA students combines rigorous academics with an active campus culture. Heavy reading, seminars, and discussions demand effort, but flexible schedules allow self-paced learning. While political activism may occasionally disrupt classes, students enjoy a vibrant social life through fests, clubs, dhaba hangouts, and hostel gatherings. The green campus, diverse peer group, and relaxed hostel rules help balance academic pressure with fun and freedom.

Ques. Is the government subsidy for JNU students justified when institutions like IIMs are not subsidized and IITs have increased their course fees?

Ans. Yes, it can be justified because JNU is meant to stay affordable for students from poorer backgrounds and focuses on public education and research, while IIMs and IITs are more job-oriented and charge higher fees as they expect graduates to earn more. Different types of institutions have different goals, so they are funded differently.

the life of student in JNU

Academic structure and curriculum in the campus

i choose this course because to acquire a skill but now i find if we are here to acquire just a skill then i would suggest it's not a wise decision to choose this course and even it became defficult for me to pass the exam .... the course is quite interesting as we get to learn a new language but the way the professors are using to teach is not that much good i think their is a need to change the teaching style.. total 3 sessional and 1 end sem exam held in a semester and the difficulty increases accordingly

What are the internship opportunities in the campus?

the college have a group where the senoirs inform about internship and also we can get an opportunity to study abroad on the recommendation of professors and even we can find opportunities by ourselves with the help of senoirs

What are the placement opportunities in the college and highest package?

at present i dont have any idea about placement but i have heared that japaneese have got highest placement till now which was around 30,00000 and about russian language we have average 8,00000 package .

Yearly fees of the course and scholarship

as the data says jnu is very economical for student doing higher studies and the fee of jnu fulfil that fact by charging just 268 ruppee per year and not only the fee this university also accomodate students here in 18 hostel and for the mess charges the government is providing 2000/month to students who's criteria is mentioned in the form and the scholarship is known as MCM.

Students views about the campus life

the overall experience was good and it fulfiled almost my all expectation which i had in my mind and explorinf the campus is quite satisfying because the campus itself in a forest like area so it continoulsy attach us with nature and also the political parties present here are very active and 5 days a week we have a kind of talking session with eminent persons coming here from different places of india and also we have certain clubs here but only few of them are active not all the clubs are active

What are facilities available in the college hostel?

the fees of hostel is low but the infrastructure is also very poor and the drinking water facility is not that much good and the toilets are also very poor .. but each hostel are facilitated with internet which is 24*7 accessible .. the rent is also low but at the time of registration apart from the fee we need to pay an amount ranging 1,000-15,00 and the food quality is also very low in hostel mess

Faculty and examination pattern of the college

im persuing BA in Russian Studies and and here we have very wise and helpful professor and the ratio of professor to students is 1:10. at present i like german faculty the most coz they are more friendly towards the students comparing to russian faculty .... russian faculty is also good and helpful but my friends always praise about german faculty and also i don't like persian faculty because most of the times they cancelled the classes so i feels like they are less concerned about the students ... the russian faculty held 3 sessional exam in a semester and a end sem exam at the end of semster and the level of exam increases and the number of students passing the exam decreases

What is the admission process of the campus?

i choose this college because the fess was very niminal and living in delhi with such low fees is the main attracting factor for me .. i have applied for this collge only this time but last year i was in DU and the infrastructure there was quite better then JNU... the admission process here is very easy because when we came here for physical verifcation we get our seniors ready to help and the process is also not very complex

Night Life

perticullarly the night life of JNU is very exciting and productive . Here we have certain dhabas which remain open late night and the students gather there for cup of tea or any another activity and they discuss something over cup of tea and the jnu become more beautiful in night and students roam here and there in nights and their is no restriction as well on students and they can enter and exit campus whenever they want and also the girls safety if also there . Campus have around 150 security gaurds at a time

I applied in Delhi University for Bachelor of Management studies got Aryabhatta college as it was mistakenly my first preference, I had enough marks to get admission into a better college compared to Aryabhatta college for BMS, So I left that. Than I applied in Jawaharlal Nehru University for BA Hons French as it seemed very interesting course. And compared to Aryabhatta college, JNU was very cheap, had hostel and very other facilities like 24*7 library, college life. The fee for Aryabhatta college was 27000 I guess and 268 for JNU. I aplied in these two universities only , luckily scored good so I didn't have to wait for second list. The admission for JNU was also very smooth, You have to fill the application form online after cuet result(Generally 85-90% is safe score), it cost around 250 rupees, then after result , you have to visit university with your documents like 10th,12th marksheet, Aadhar card, migration certificate, character certificate and within one day you will get your admission process done. You'll be allocated with your hostel and ID card, library slip then and there.

Admission process is first you've to clear cuet then apply for councelling on jnu portal then check result, if you clear the cutoff that you will get the admission letter and the date of admission and on that day you come with the given document in the list and you will get the admission.

JNU: 7 Answered Questions

Which is India's top university, Delhi University or JNU?

Apoorva Bali
Gaurav SinghUndergrad student is at University

There is a stark difference between both universities in terms of culture as well as fees. JNU or Jawaharlal Nehru University is mostly about expression, literature, culture, research, and building intellectual facilities whereas DU is all about glamor, fashion, fests, high cutoffs, and placements.

In financial terms, JNU is much more affordable than DU. Be it course fees or hostel fees, JNU cuts down on expenses a lot.

JNU is learning for life, whereas DU focuses on learning the bare essentials and getting placed in a reputed firm.

One more significant difference to consider is that JNU is more about post-graduation whereas DU focuses more on graduation. The difference in intellectual level stems from the same reason.

If you are still confused between the two, spend equal time on both campuses and you will get the answer soon.

How is life like for a civil services aspirant in JNU, Delhi?

Sabeer Chalana
Deepika Sinhastudied at Jawaharlal Nehru University

The life of a civil service aspirant at JNU is worthwhile and interesting. It is a little bit tougher to stay focused and determined on campus. But many students with strong determination and motivation reached their goal. The life of a civil service aspirant is detailed below

  • They work very hard with a consistent study routine. They are stiff-minded and most of them wake up early in the morning and start their preparation
  • Books are their best companion, and rooms are filled with splendid books. They are quick-witted
  • They mugged up each and every topic that came under the background of humanities, arts, and science.  JNU has a vast library with a rich book collection starting at the 9th-grade level, and you can also make use of the bookshop available nearby the campus. This institution also has the advantage of a huge collection of online academic resources
  • The renewal of our registration every semester never lets us stay away from our goal. There are distractions on campus due to varied reasons, like politics. But a civil service aspirant should never fall for entertainment
  • JNU is gifted with experienced scholars, and they give full support to the students, especially civil service aspirants. You can contact any of the faculty to clear your doubts without any hesitation

Last but not least, Don’t mess up with your health during your studies; make sure you have 7 hours of sleep every day and do proper exercises, which will help you boost your energy and stay active

Are JNU admissions tough?

Sabeer Chalana
Himanshu Yadav

JNU admissions are quite competitive due to its high reputation in India and across the world. Students from Delhi and outside of Delhi compete for admission to various JNU courses. The university accepts CUET for admission to its undergraduate and postgraduate programs. When the CUET results are declared, JNU releases its cutoff scores and merit list accordingly.

Candidates who have a CUET score that is at least equal to the cutoff scores will be called for the counseling session and will be allotted seats in their preferred institutions. Since a large number of applicants apply for JNU admissions, candidates must aim for a high percentile and a high CUET score. Good marks can ensure admission to JNU if not any other parameter.
