Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) M.Sc is a 2-year postgraduate program. It is offered in 5 specializations namely, Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Physical Sciences, Computational and Integrative Sciences, and Molecular Medicine.

JNU M.Sc Eligibility Criteria

  • For admission to different specializations in JNU M.Sc. program, the Candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant subject under the 10+2+3 pattern of education by scoring at least 55% marks. 
  • The candidate must appear in the CUET PG exam. 

JNU M.Sc Admission Guidelines 

Candidates seeking admission to M.Sc at JNU must clear the Common University Entrance Test (CUET PG) conducted by NTA. Admission shall be granted on the basis of performance in the CUET PG exam. The final selection will be based on the merit list released by the university. 

Admission to M.Sc in Biotechnology and M.Sc in Computational Biology Programme will be through GAT-B scores.

JNU M.Sc Application Process 

The following steps must be followed:

Online

  • Candidates can fill the online application form from the official website of NTA.
  • Click on “Apply Online”
  • Fill in the required credentials like Name, Email ID, Date of Birth, Mobile number etc.
  • Click on “Submit”. After successful submission, the candidate will get a registration number.
  • Next, fill in the application form.
  • Duly fill in the personal details, basic details, educational details, communication details etc.
  • Make the required payment by clicking on “Pay Fee” on the official website. Candidates can login to the candidate portal with the help of login ID and password.
  • The payment can be done via Debit Card/ Credit Card/ Net Banking.

Offline

The application form can also be filled via offline mode by following the mentioned steps:

  • Visit the official website of JNU i.e NTA
  • Select the “Download Form” option
  • Duly fill in the Personal details, Basic Details, Educational details, Communication Details etc in the application form.
  • Pay the Application Fee through Demand Draft.
  • Send the Application Form to the following address:

  1. Central Library Application Form
  2. Enrolment Form
  3. 5 copies of recent passport size photograph
  4. Two sets of self-attested copies of the Matriculation, Higher secondary, Pre-University or Indian School Certificate or Senior School Certificate (10+2), or an equivalent examination certificate showing the age/date of birth of the candidate.
  5. Character Certificate from the Head of the last attended Institution
  6. Two sets of self-attested copies of the statement of marks obtained by the candidate and passing certificate/degree of Senior School, Bachelor’s Degree/Master’s Degree examination etc; or their equivalent examination
  7. Two self -attested copies of SC/ ST certificate in the prescribed format in support of claim for admission against reserved quota. Candidates should bring original caste/ category certificate at the time of admission/ registration
  8. Two self-attested copies of OBC certificate along with recently issued OBC Non-creamy layer certificate. Candidates should bring original caste/ category certificate at the time of admission/ registration
  9. Two copies of Disability certificate in the prescribed format issued by the Competent Medical Authority indicating the nature and extent (including percentage) of Physical Disability in support of their claim for admission against PWD quota. Candidate should bring original Disability as per Disability Act 2016 at the time of admission/ registration
  10. Two copies of the Income and asset certificate to be certified for the EWS candidates by an officer not below the rank of Tehsildar in the States/UTs in the prescribed format
  11. Two Anti-Ragging Affidavits
  12. Candidates pursuing their studies with some other University/Institution are required to submit discontinuation certificate signed by appropriate authority from their respective University/Institution at the time of registration/admission along with migration Certificate
  13. Online payment
  14. In a separate envelope, the candidates need to submit the Provisional Certificate of the qualifying examination, Migration Certificate, Character Certificate, Anti – ragging Affidavits and Discontinuation certificate.

Ques. Can Candidates who are due to appear in the Qualifying Examination also apply for JNU M.Sc program?

Ans. Yes, candidates who are due to appear in their respective qualifying examination may also apply. During selection, they shall be admitted only if they have secured the minimum prescribed percentage of marks in their qualifying examination and they submit all documents including final marks-sheet of the qualifying examination before the deadline fixed for registration.

Ques. What are the placement opportunities for JNU MSc graduates?

Ans. After completing the MSc program from JNU, you would be preferred over other college graduates for employment in many MNC organizations. Additionally, you will be well-placed at prestigious firms like TCS, Wipro, Microsoft, and others due to IIT's excellent employment chances.

Ques. What Cultural Activities are held at Jawaharlal Nehru University?

Ans. Cultural activities among the student community of JNU are promoted through various cultural clubs. These clubs are Debating, Drama, Film, Fine Arts, Literary, Music and dance, Nature and Wildlife, Photography, and UNESCO. In order to become a member of the club the student is interested in, a nominal annual fee shall be charged. A student can hold membership of more than one club.

Ques. Does JNU provide medical services?

Ans. Yes, the university has a Health centre (UHC) which is located near the north gate of South West of Ganga Hostel. Students can just walk in for consultations and treatment for General OPD, Dental OPD and Homeopathy OPD. -Advanced Life Support Vehicle and Patient Transport Vehicle are available at the Health Centre for 24 hrs.

Ques. What percentage of seats is reserved for SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD candidates at JNU?

Ans. The following are the details:
  • 15 % of the total number of seats is reserved for applicants belonging to Scheduled Caste.
  • 7.5% of the total number of seats is reserved for Scheduled Tribes candidates.
  • 27% seats will be reserved for the applicants belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) (non-creamy layer, central list)
  • Reservation of 5% seats in respect of PWD candidates shall be done horizontally, as per the Government of India Guidelines/Policy
