JNU conducts its own entrance examination for PhD admissions, known as JNUEE, while admission to UG and PG courses is based on national-level entrance exams such as CUET, CUET-PG, JEE Main, GAT-B, and CAT.

The counseling and seat allocation process at JNU is conducted through platforms like JoSAA, CSAB, DASA, and CCMT, depending on the course. Some of the most popular courses at Jawaharlal Nehru University include MA Political Science, MA International Relations, BA (Hons) in Foreign Languages, M.Tech, and PhD programs.

According to Arundhati Das, a BA (Hons.) Arabic student, the course is engaging, particularly for those interested in learning languages like Arabic. Students benefit from small class sizes and supportive faculty at JNU. Internships and placements are primarily available in embassies or international companies. Campus life emphasizes academics, sports, and library use, while hostels are well-equipped and offer good food. Overall, the program is affordable and provides strong preparation for future careers abroad. - Click Here to Read the Detailed Review

JNU Admission FAQs

Ques. Can I get admission in JNU if my CUET score is 348/450 (English+GT)?

Ans. Yes, you may have a chance, but it depends on the course, your category, and the specific cutoff for that program at JNU. A 348/450 CUET score is generally competitive, especially for some language, social science, or less high-demand programs, but for very popular courses, cutoffs can be higher. Final admission also depends on merit lists, seat availability, and counseling rounds.

Ques. How is MA Sociology at JNU in terms of academics, classes, attendance, UPSC relevance?

Ans. MA Sociology at JNU is academically rigorous, theory- and research-focused, with heavy reading, seminars, and assignments. Attendance isn’t strictly enforced, but regular participation helps with grades and faculty support. It aligns well with UPSC sociology optional, though balancing prep with coursework can be challenging due to the workload.

Ques. What subjects are taught in JNU's MA in International Relations and Area Studies?

Ans. JNU MA in International Relations and Area Studies (IRAS) teaches core subjects like International Relations theories, International Law, Foreign Policy, Area Studies, and Research Methods. Students can also choose optional courses about different regions like South Asia, East Asia, West Asia, Africa, and topics like nation-building, security, and development. The course gives a good mix of theory, research skills, and knowledge about different parts of the world.

Ques. What is the JNU M.Tech in Geotechnical Engineering program like?

Ans. JNU M.Tech in Geotechnical Engineering is a 2-year program that focuses on soil and rock behavior, foundations, retaining structures, and ground improvement. It includes theory, lab work, projects, and sometimes computer modelling to solve real-world construction and infrastructure problems. Graduates can work in construction, consulting, research, or government projects.

Ques. Can I get into JNU master’s courses without CUET‑PG?

Ans. No, for most master’s programs at JNU, including MA and M.Tech courses, CUET (or the specific JNU entrance test) is now required for admission. JNU has mostly stopped direct admissions or merit-based entry without CUET, except in very rare cases like certain PhD programs, sponsored candidates, or international students. So if you are applying for regular MA/M.Tech courses as a general student, you cannot get in without CUET.

Ques. What is the last date to register for JNU 2026?

Ans. For JNU 2026 admissions, the last date to apply depends on the program. For CUET‑PG, the application deadline was January 14, 2026. For most JNU programs that use CUET scores, the admission registration usually opens around July–August 2026, with the final deadline likely in August. It’s important to check JNU’s official website for the exact dates and updates.

AI-Generated Summary based on 96 Reviews

For admission to the Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in German at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), candidates must pass the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The essential eligibility is a Class 12 pass from any recognized board with a minimum of 50% marks, although some references suggest 60%, and age should be at least 17 years. Applicants should prepare for the English language and General Test sections in CUET.

Registration for CUET starts in March or April, with fees approximately ?750. The cutoff varies, but generally, a score of 85-90% is considered competitive, with lower cutoffs for reserved categories. After the CUET results, applicants must apply for counseling through the JNU portal. The physical verification process requires documents such as the Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, Aadhar card, and relevant certificates, including caste and category certificates. Reservations are available for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and candidates from quartile districts.

JNU is favored for its nominal fees and vibrant campus life, especially compared to other institutions like Delhi University.

I applied in Delhi University for Bachelor of Management studies got Aryabhatta college as it was mistakenly my first preference, I had enough marks to get admission into a better college compared to Aryabhatta college for BMS, So I left that. Than I applied in Jawaharlal Nehru University for BA Hons French as it seemed very interesting course. And compared to Aryabhatta college, JNU was very cheap, had hostel and very other facilities like 24*7 library, college life. The fee for Aryabhatta college was 27000 I guess and 268 for JNU. I aplied in these two universities only , luckily scored good so I didn't have to wait for second list. The admission for JNU was also very smooth, You have to fill the application form online after cuet result(Generally 85-90% is safe score), it cost around 250 rupees, then after result , you have to visit university with your documents like 10th,12th marksheet, Aadhar card, migration certificate, character certificate and within one day you will get your admission process done. You'll be allocated with your hostel and ID card, library slip then and there.

Admission process is first you've to clear cuet then apply for councelling on jnu portal then check result, if you clear the cutoff that you will get the admission letter and the date of admission and on that day you come with the given document in the list and you will get the admission.

Admission:

I choose this college over others because it has students from differents parts of not only India but also from forign countries which gave me chance to interact with different studnets from the various cities , states which eventually give me a thought process to think differently in different conditions and also improve improve my commuinication skills and there is also an another reason for opting this college is that it has a nominal fee and also it is very economical for students . The fees structure of this college is far better than other colleges i have applied and the enviornment of this particular university is way more better than the others . To get admission in this collge we have to first appear in the the exam named CUET conducted by NTA in which we have to write two papers one is ENGLISH and another of GENERAL TEST after that you have to fill the university form and after being selected you have to come for physical verification and docmentation process and then after a couple of days you can start your journey here .

Are JNU admissions tough?

Sabeer Chalana
Himanshu Yadav

JNU admissions are quite competitive due to its high reputation in India and across the world. Students from Delhi and outside of Delhi compete for admission to various JNU courses. The university accepts CUET for admission to its undergraduate and postgraduate programs. When the CUET results are declared, JNU releases its cutoff scores and merit list accordingly.

Candidates who have a CUET score that is at least equal to the cutoff scores will be called for the counseling session and will be allotted seats in their preferred institutions. Since a large number of applicants apply for JNU admissions, candidates must aim for a high percentile and a high CUET score. Good marks can ensure admission to JNU if not any other parameter.
