Inside out of BHU

Student view on course curriculum

The commerce course prepares well for the overall real world in some aspects...the marketing and statictics course is well updated...however the income tax and finance related curriculum is quite backward that needs changes to the real world

Placement provided by the college and highest package

From the 5th semester students are eligible for the placement. The companies that visited where Decathlon,ICICI Lombard,Hike edu and made offers somewhere close to 3 lpa to 5 lpa. The highest was 5 lpa from hike edu and the profile was in sales only Only 10% of the students got placement My plan was to do mba and so was the most of the students there or CA.

Yearly fees structure of the college

The overall fees structure of BHU for the graduation course is very nominal. During the admission period an amount of close to 3000 to 4000 is being paid and it includes the 1st semester. The even semester is somewhere under rupees 800 and odd semester is somewhere between 1500 to 2000 this sums up to close to 15000 overall fees of 3 year graduation which is negligible in todays era. And no,the fees of BHU doesnt increase at all.

College fest and various activities

The BHU organise the fest of IIT BHU that is KASHIYATRA which is the biggest 3 day fest and big celebrities come and huge concert is held. The inter faculty sports event is held and students can enroll in that from there college Overall the social life in bhu is not great because BHU doesnt involve in much fests.

Student views on the faculty and exams

The faculties are very approachable in BHU and they are available too. They are lazy in taking classes which leads to blank lectures. Some are also very bad in teaching and just joined based on some source. The best faculty in faculty of commerce BHU is SP jain of income tax...he was old but yet soo dedicated towards teaching. The exam system is semester based and total of 6 exams takes place...and rest marking is based on sessionals, viva and assignments. The exams are moderate and can pass easily if past papers are practiced enough. The one faculty I didnt liked was Akhil Mishra...he was very proudy and used to discuss religions in class which was disturbing.

Admission process of the college

I applied to jamia and lucknow university. Got into LU but that was a state university. I chose BHU over it because it contains a brand and is a central university. I didnt make it to jamia because i didnt cleared the entrance. The admission process includes a CUET exam and is organised by NTA and merit is out based on the entrance only...once cleared the documentation is done.

Night Life

The gym is not available however open gym in parks are available. The library facilty is very good nad available throughout the night. The campus is open 24/7 and hostels doesnt have any in timings for both boys and girls. The famous hangout spots are VT that is vishwanath temple and AG that is agriculture spot.

I didnt apply for any other college or university other than Banaras Hindu University. Arya Mahila PG College is an affiliate college of Banaras Hindu University itself and thus it was alloted to me, on cutoff basis. I chose Banaras Hindu University cause of its cultural values along with good prestige and brand name, along with good faculty and education being imparted here being above the other colleges or universities. The admission process of my college is extremely simple, you just have to apply for CUET UG which is an entrance exam for applying to various universities and colleges for an undergraduate course. Thereafter appear for the exams and get good enough marks which are above the cutoff for Banaras Hindu University. Then fill up the counselling form for Banaras Hindu University and then the seat will be alloted to you for the particular college you clear cutoff for, in my case it was AMPG then you will have to get your physical verification done at the college campus itself, to confirm your seat. And hey, you got an admission already.

And also this college have more brand value in real world than Allahabad University if not, then both are at par in brand value. For admission procedure we have to submit all documents everything like T.C , allotment letter and Anti ragging undertaking, dossier and other documents in faculty of commerce of main campus which isB.H.U Varanasi. Professor will guide you there how to do it. You have to give CUET UG for this. At my time it accepted three subjects English, Accountancy, business studies.

BHU is a very reputed university and getting admission in it is considered good especially among locals. I did appear for counselling of DU and got into north campus since my score for DU was 746/800 ,but the main reason for getting admission in BHU was it's affordablility and it's name which was also preferred by my family. The admission process was not very complex but time taking ( be prepared with all the documents), you get into BHU Faculty of commerce through CUET the first round cutoff for my year was 505 which depends on the difficulty level of paper , this year it was around 548 in first round and decreases accordingly .

Banaras Hindu University has some problems like slow paper work, old building in some parts and things taking time to get fixed but still there something special about it. The campuses big and peaceful and you meet student from all over India which makes the experience interesting .Even though the system isn't perfect like a BHU teachers you a lot not just from book but from people and moments. There are fests, group studies, late night chai and walk under the tree that you will remember for long time. I didn't applied for any other colleges because I really love Banaras in the university and it was my dream college. Exam expected for the Banaras Hindu University admission is CET and general category the cutoff is high above 500.

BHU: 6 Answered Questions

Why do students leave BHU?

Amita SantraEconomics from Banaras Hindu University (Graduated 2018)

Although BHU has the best faculty and management, many students tend to leave BHU after a few days. They feel isolated and homesick. Also, the teachers have a lot of political influence. The administration does not let you take a stand for yourself. A lot of inter students riots take place here.

Also, BHU has a sustaining hierarchy and preferential treatment that seeps down to the education part as well. Ex-students become professors without external exposure. So they bring much lesser value in terms of ethics, fair marking, and admission system.

I think these are some minor reasons why students keep leaving BHU after admission.

What is the Paid Seat system at Banaras Hindu University (BHU)?

Pratham Kumar Gautam
Anika Sinhalives in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India

The paid seats system is a system for students who wanted to get admission to Banaras Hindu University but were unable to secure the qualifying ranks. In such a case, he/she can choose to pay the extra fee which is called the Paid seat system. These seats are available up to 5-10 seats in all courses and are reserved as paid seats. This is for those students who got a good rank but missed the campus seat with a very less difference in index.

Procedure

  • Fill in the paid seat form online or during the counseling process. Paid seats are available both for the main campus and affiliated colleges.
  • Your chances of getting the paid seats to work on the number of available seats and your index rank. For instance, if the cutoff is 280, and your marks are in the range of 270-279 you can secure your admission to the campus.
  • The portal will release the result and you can check it on the concerned day.

Fees structure

Paid seats cost extra fees in addition to the semester fees. For example, if your course fee is Rs. 2000 and your paid seat fee is Rs. 25000 so the total fees for the semester will be INR 27000 but the fees for next semester will be the same as a regular seat.

For more information, consider checking the notice board regarding the fee structure for further reference

I will not suggest you to join RGSOIPL, IIT Kharagpur because of a number of reasons

  • RGSOIPL still has a two-year programme while most Law Schools have changed the duration of the program to one year only. Wasting an additional year is not worth it.
  • The LLM program lacks the necessary coursework and relevancy of the curriculum mainly because the administration has zero knowledge about specializations.
  • The faculty is focused on the flagship program that is LLB and hardly cares about LLM students. It also lacks the necessary skills to teach the program effectively.
  • The institution does not permit students to opt for internships during vacations rather want them to work in their sponsored projects.

I would suggest you choose premier institutes for LLM such as - BHU, AMU, DU, NLSIU, NUJS, NALSAR.

Does BHU conduct their own entrance exam for MBA?

Ananya DasguptaStudied at IIT BHU (2019)

The “Institute of Management Studies” which was previously known as FMS, or Faculty of Management Studies, and a “Faculty of Commerce”, offers MBA with different specializations.

  • Appearing in CAT exams is mandatory for candidates if they want to get admission in the Institute of Management Studies, BHU.
  • The institute takes the scores of CAT exams into consideration in order to shortlist the ones who meet the criteria for admission.
  • MBA and MBA in International Business are two of the flagship courses offered by BHU.
  • BHU conducts its own entrance exams called PET in the month of May for admission in the Faculty of Commerce.
  • For various reasons, an MBA from the Institute of Management Studies is better than an MBA from the Faculty of Commerce.

MBA in Agribusiness is affiliated with IM-BHU or the Institute of Management Studies but it runs in the south campus of BHU which is in Barkachha. Candidates have to appear for the PET entrance exam for admission.

Campus selection at BHU (Banaras Hindu University) is conducted through its Central Placement Cell, which connects students with leading companies. The process begins with pre-placement talks, where recruiters explain job roles and packages. Eligible students then participate in written tests, group discussions, and personal interviews

The top recruiters during BHU Placement 2024 were Tech Mahindra, ICICI Bank, Deloitte, Asian Paints, Policybazaar, IDFC, Naukri.com, Godrej, Dabur, PwC, and more.

Banaras Hindu University requires an entrance exam for admission in business-related UG courses, but it does not offer a standalone BBA program, according to reliable sources. Instead, students can apply for related courses like B.Com or Management-focused programs, and admission is done through the CUET-UG exam conducted at the national level. Candidates must meet eligibility criteria and participate in BHU’s counselling process after CUET results for seat allocation.
