How do I qualify for BHU?
Candidates who are seeking admission to BHU must meet the eligibility criteria prescribed by the university. Generally, the eligibility for all the BHU programs is as follows:
- Undergraduate Courses: Candidates must have passed 10+2 with at least 50% aggregate marks from a recognized board of education. Reserved category candidates may be eligible for relaxations as per the university or government guidelines. The hostel facilities of IMS BHU and KGMU are at par with each other with no major differences. Here are the year-wise hostels allotted to students of both colleges
First-year:
- BHU : First-year students of BHU are allotted the Punarvasu Atreya Hostel. This is the hostel with the best facility wherein students are offered double occupancy rooms. There are some restrictions in the initial months. The mess food in this hostel is decent and it also has a small play area. Other facilities include 24-hour electricity and water supply with free internet wifi.
- KGMU : KGMU first-year students are allotted the CV hostel that has double occupancy rooms. It has Wi-Fi availability, scenery mess food, and a canteen, but is slightly larger than the Atreus hostel of BHU
So, for the first-year students, KGMU hostel > IMS BHU hostel
Second Year
- IMS BHU: The second-year students of IMS BHU are allotted the Ruiya hostel which is the most beautiful hostel of IMS BHU. It’s known for its lush greenery and is widely spread in a huge area. The rooms are triple occupancy.
- KGMU: The second-year students are allotted to the TG hostel which is a multistorey building situated in a colony. Single occupancy rooms are allotted to every student. The only drawback is that it’s quite far away from the main campus.
So for the second year, IMS BHU hostel >KGMU
Third year and Last year:
- IMS BHU : The third-year students of IMS BHU are allotted the Ruiya annex hostel which is very well furnished with double occupancy rooms. In the last year, students have been allotted the Dhanvantari hostel which has single occupancy rooms.
- KGMU: The third and last-year students of KGMU are allotted with SP hostel which has double occupancy rooms. If you score good marks in your final year, then you may get a single-room

Overall, the hostels of both IMS BHU and KGMU are equally good in terms of cleanliness and maintenance.

All three universities - Jamia Millia Islamia, Banaras Hindu University, and Aligarh Muslim University - have reputed law faculties and offer Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Legislative Law (LLB) programs. However, the best choice for you would depend on various factors such as location, fees, curriculum, campus infrastructure, and faculty.
- Ranking : Based on NIRF Ranking, JMU is the best among the 3 options. JMU Law was ranked 5 out of 30 in India 2023 by NIRF MBA.
- Location : Jamia is situated in Delhi, the capital of India. The students are exposed to more opportunities in terms of internships and coaching. AMU and BHU don’t offer much exposure because of their poor location.
- Academics and Campus life: Jamia has a more dynamic and vibrant campus life with a better academic experience.
Overall, Jamia should be your first preference if you want to pursue courses like Mass Communication, Law, or Architecture
What is the Paid Seat system at Banaras Hindu University (BHU)?
The paid seats system is a system for students who wanted to get admission to Banaras Hindu University but were unable to secure the qualifying ranks. In such a case, he/she can choose to pay the extra fee which is called the Paid seat system. These seats are available up to 5-10 seats in all courses and are reserved as paid seats. This is for those students who got a good rank but missed the campus seat with a very less difference in index.
Procedure
- Fill in the paid seat form online or during the counseling process. Paid seats are available both for the main campus and affiliated colleges.
- Your chances of getting the paid seats to work on the number of available seats and your index rank. For instance, if the cutoff is 280, and your marks are in the range of 270-279 you can secure your admission to the campus.
- The portal will release the result and you can check it on the concerned day.
Fees structure
Paid seats cost extra fees in addition to the semester fees. For example, if your course fee is Rs. 2000 and your paid seat fee is Rs. 25000 so the total fees for the semester will be INR 27000 but the fees for next semester will be the same as a regular seat.

What is the future of LLM from IIT Kharagpur? Is it better than other LLM colleges
I will not suggest you to join RGSOIPL, IIT Kharagpur because of a number of reasons
- RGSOIPL still has a two-year programme while most Law Schools have changed the duration of the program to one year only. Wasting an additional year is not worth it.
- The LLM program lacks the necessary coursework and relevancy of the curriculum mainly because the administration has zero knowledge about specializations.
- The faculty is focused on the flagship program that is LLB and hardly cares about LLM students. It also lacks the necessary skills to teach the program effectively.
- The institution does not permit students to opt for internships during vacations rather want them to work in their sponsored projects.
I would suggest you choose premier institutes for LLM such as - BHU, AMU, DU, NLSIU, NUJS, NALSAR.
What is the hostel fee at BHU including mess charge and everything?
Firstly, the hostel fees at BHU vary from course to course. So all I can do is give you a rough estimate through the information I got from my sister who pursued B.Sc from BHU.
Hostel Fees
- 1st semester stood: INR 2666
- 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th semester: INR 1290 (regular fee and hostel fee both)
- 3rd, 5th, and 7th: INR 3190 (regular fee and hostel fee)
Mess Charges:
- INR 40 for a simple diet
- INR 60 for special
- INR 80 for chicken
Usually, there are 2 diets a day and on Sundays, there is only one diet. But the Sunday meal is special so it is counted as a double diet. So the approximate price stands at INR 80-100 per day.
If you skip the meal or go home then you can tell Mess Maharaj and you won’t be charged.
