Campus Life

So, BHU do not have any official clubs but students are so active that they themselves have formed numerous clubs including dance, music, literature, film society and even many more. All these clubs are run by student of the college.. Campus life is amazing, you can absolutely enter any other department and take a tour, at every few metres you'll find a canteen of other department. There's museum, temple, and lot of amazing thing. Even if one wants he cannot explore campus in one day. The campus is insane.

Internships Opportunities

As such there's no official placement cell apart from IIT amd the Management Studies. Since I am not from that particular sector I won't be able to elaborate. For Social science there's a student ru placement cell who collaborate with new companies and governmental opportunities. Rest theres no such thing like cells since most of the students in this course go for government exam preparation.

Campus Life

Annual fest is Sarjana. Usually held in february. This college's library is a hidden gem. It has great and rare books as well. If one is a learner, they will have a great time coursinv through the books of the library. Its even better than main campus. Faculty hand picks the books for the library to be ordered. Classrooms are lacking in infrastructure. No white boards in one building while the other one has them. And rarely you will find projectors or smart boards. Sports activities are also limited. If you want to play a game, getting the sport equipment permit frkm office is a hassle. There are several clubs like Electoral Literacy Clubs which functions well and hold events almost every month. Other clubs like Eco Talk, Ocean Shell are also there. They allow students to geta reprieve from repetitive motions of attending classes and do some fun and educational activities for a break.

Faculty

Faculty to student ratio is really skewed. Our department only has 5 teachers. And while MA class only has about 40 students in one batch, BA classes sometimes have more than 200 students per batch so its hard for faculty to pay equal attention to all students. Other than that, faculty is really friendly and attentive. They are frank and really approachable. All five teachers are great, at least in our department. I cant say the same about other departments. I have heard scary things from Sanskrit department students that their teachers are really rude, mean and sometimes even judge their clothes. But political science department has sweet and attentive teachers. They are rarely ever angry and always chill and friendly. There is only one exam at the end of each semester. The exam in itself isnt tough.

Campus Life

The campus is huge and the amount of activities buzzing around cannot be listed all at once. Campus Life of Panjab University is very happening and a lot of fests such as Aagaz, Cyanide, Vimarsh etc etc. keep taking place. There are lots of activities that are held department wise. Regarding the department of Political Science- 1.) it is one the most active Departments of University and thus a lot of activities take place. 2.) We have a monthly Newsletter - Political Digest which covers are the major and minor events of the department. 3.) There is Electoral Literacy Club which is first in the North India and very active in Electoral awareness. 4.) A movie club which screens movies followed by a discussion every Thursday. 5.) A discussion Club which holds weekly discussions on topic of relevance. 6.) A green committee oriented toward sustainability. And a lot of other activities keep taking place every now and then. Elections being on the most crucial and awaited event annually both in the department as well as university campus. A student council of 4 members is elected through these elections and Department Representative from each department are also elected at the same time. Facilities in the department 1.) there is a department Library which is open from 9-5. 2.) Separate and hygienic washrooms. 3.) A Digitally advance and supportive clerical office and staff. 4.) Separate sitting space for research scholars. 5.) A conference hall.

Faculty

The teacher student ratio is 20:1 which is quite good. Personal attention is also provided to students if they seek for any help from the faculty staff. In addition to teaching staff, a set of non teaching staff is also contributing to aid the smooth functioning of academics. Each faculty is unique in their approach and super helpfull. They keep providing material from time to time and never hesitate to help even if outside of the regular academic scope of course. Prof. Pampa is an active and disciplined professor, she is currently the chairperson. Dr. Janaki is one of the youngest professors and definitely favourite of students. Prof. Ashutosh is yet again one of the most experienced and most interactive professors. There is Semester system - two semesters per year and exams are held once in December for odd semester and then once in May for even semester. In a semester, there are mid term examinations and snap tests for the sake of internal assessment. Terms papers for each course are also to be submitted each semester. There are 16 courses in total divided equally in 4 semester, this also include few optional courses. Exams are of quite moderate level and are provided in 3 languages - Hindi, English and Punjabi. There is one exam for each course.

So the system is pretty basic as followed in any institution. Its a semi govt body that means half private and half govt. faculty is really average, but at the same time really hardworking. We enter in the 2nd semester in the month of may and again around September to November assignments presentaions and tests will be conducted and semester 3 will wind up till December. At the time of admission i paid Rs 30,000 in which 5k is refundable and 12k is tuition fees, 5k goes to alumni fund, 5k is admission fees and rest is applainces and facilities charge. Scholarships are available for economically backward children. They will have to consult with the college administration to avail the services given within this particular scholarship. Fees and Financial Aid

The yearly fee for the M.A. in Political Science at LSR is approximately INR 20,526 per year. This is a standard amount covering basic fees like tuition, development, and other essentials of college, though it can vary slightly based on specific administrative changes. This is for the first year and they charge the same amount for the second year as well. Other than the college fees, you have to pay each semester (overall 4 semester) exam fees which is around 500-600rs. And don't forget the living expenses which can add between 10,000-12,000rs to your budget (for example in an area such as Satya Niketan which is near South campus). Be mindful of all these things and choose a good college whichever you prefer.

Campus Life

There's a diwali mela here in lady Shri Ram College for women every year and with passes students are allowed, only girls though. And farewells and freshers for college students of course are held every year. The library has a lot of books and almost everything available and if something's not available, the staff ins always ready to help. The sports and such activities happen all the time too. The societies are very beneficial for students' development, make sure to participate in at least one or two.

Faculty

The professor's are egoistic. They want you to write the material what they send you. They will give marks according to roll numbers and according to their mood. And the faculty does only have 3 professor's as they are using PhD scholar's for teaching us the remaining subjects. The exam is conducted 3 times in a sem. Minor-1 20 marks, Minor-2 20 marks and then Major - 60 marks. There are no assignments, no presentations. Just cram and give exam the whole sem without expecting marks if your roll number is no between 1 to 25. The course is relevant as most of the syllabus covers the UGC NET'S PAPER 2 POLITICAL SCIENCE. So the course is great. But the way of teaching and how it is planned is bad. The difficulty in exams are normal to hard. From 60, around 50-54 manage to pass the exam, the failed one can give retest before majors to pass the minor's. But if the failed in major they have to give with the new batch that paper.

Fees and Financial Aid

Overall yearly fee is 13,820 which includes everything. Some of the examples are library fee, sport's participation fee, id card fee etc. The fee is same for all the category. There is no concession in fee for any category. Their are scholarships for SC and ST though which depends on merit and seat availability. The amount is betwee 3k to 5k.

Faculty

In Department of political science in the first year, you will have a class of 300 to 400 students in the satyakam bhawan. The ratio of the teacher will be as per this that is one teacher to 300 students and this will definitely change after the first year when your classes will be divided. As per your subject preferences you will choose after the first semesters or first year of your exams. If you talk about the faculties of Department of political science in North campus and South campus, they will be same. I mean all faculties in the masters are good in the University. They are profound knowledge about their subject. And I think the only criteria you will not like any faculty is the marks they give you? In the two years of your masters in political science from do you you will have four semesters that means four semester exams. In these four semester exams you will have four internal assessment papers. The division of marks is like 30 from practicals and the 70 from theoretical paper

Course Curriculum Overview

Doing master in political science was the obvious choice for me because I have done my graduation in political science and if you are talking about the academics pursuit in this field you can how to do PHD after Clearing your net exam but there will be no other Job opportunity you will get in this course. The only scope you have that you can prepare for upsc or other government exams. Otherwise, if you are from engineering background that is, you have done your graduation from engineering then definitely you should opt further in this field only.

Ques. Is selective IGNOU BA and MA political science sufficient for political science optional in UPSC?

● Top Answer By Prithviraj Debbarma on 21 Oct 22

Ans. One of my sister's acquaintances wrote 2016 mains with PSIR optional. She had been working in an IT firm till a month before prelims and had been preparing for a year before.  Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) is quite fast. The study material provided by IGNOU is good for selective reading for specific topics like Justice, Equality, MN Roy, Sri Aurobindo, Theory of international relations etc. But she had an engineering background and revealed that the notes were not of premium quality. Paper 1- Part A Gauba is not bad. But you will need to read the book more than one time to interpret it completely. The information has been divided unevenly within the chapters making it a difficult read. One more good source is Shubra Ranjan's notes. They summarise the points in the UPSC syllabus format. Paper 1- Part B Complete Laxmikant.Read the interpretations given by famous analysts, their viewpoints, case laws and their history and the politics that played behind the evolution of laws and how and why the judiciary evolved. Again for this look into Shubra Ranjan notes. For the remaining topics look into Oxford publications. Paper 2- part A For this part, the best recommendation is Heywood’s global politics. It’s easy to understand and very well written. Combine this with IGNOU notes and you will get good results. You can also go through questions given in Baylis and Smith because sometimes they appear verbatim and quoting the exact same viewpoint can get you some extra points. Paper 2 - Part B Conduct internet research and make your own notes on the topics included in the syllabus. Then go through commentaries on IDSA /IPCS websites. This will give you a better understanding of and current status of relations. Once you are done with all the study materials, focus on developing the vocabulary for PSIR. Make sure your answers are evenly distributed with theories, quotes, facts, years etc. Practice writing answers a lot. Read more
