Learning HRD the right way at DSE

Admission process and eligibility criteria

One needs to take CAT to get admission in DSE, we have three courses here MBA-HRD, MBA-IB, MBA-BA. The cutoff for IB goes the highest. For general category it closes around 96-97. For HRD it can range from 94-95 and for BA it goes for somewhere between 91-93. I was also a general category student I had scored 95.66 in CAT and I got admission in the second counselling here. There is usually three rounds of counselling here. The process is pretty simple. They only consider CAT score, 12th marks and 10th marks. Also, there is no GD-PI here as part of admission process. In DSE there is assessment throughout semester but proper exams we only have once at the end that has a weightage of 70%. My only suggestion for the admission process here would be to include GD-PI as part of the process as it would greatly impact the quality of the batch.

Placement Opportunities and Average Package Details

Students are eligible for final placements in third semester and summer placements in the first semester itself. We have many big names here in the campus JP Morgan Chase and Co, Morgan Stanley, AON, ICICI Bank, Atomberg, Hindalco, Deloitte, KPIT, Samsung, etc. Almost all the students get placed here. I'd the percentage is above 90. The highest placement offered was 26LAC+ and the average stood at 14lacs. I am currently intern at a company via the college placements and am working towards getting a PPO. If I get one, I plan on staying in the same company.

Yearly fees structure and scholarship

I am not sure about the policy but the fees per year for my senior batch was 12.5K but for us it was increased to 48K and I believe it is going to remain the same for the next few years. The total cost of the course turns out to be 1.5lacs approximately it includes a student body fund for two years. That fund is used for organizing events and placement assistance. There are various scholarships available by the government, Delhi university itself as well. The placement are pretty good both the final and summer. Last year the average final placement stood at 14Lacs and average stipend for summer placement was 80K

Top companies providing internship

JP Morgan, AON offer analyst roles. Then we have Atomberg, ICICI Bank offering the generally roles. Then we have infosys, Deloitte, etc. Offering consultancy roles. Then we have Tata, Hindalco, DS group, Mahindra, Havells offering us IR/ER roles. Then we have Michael Page, ICICI Securities and other offering the Recruitment roles. So all in all we get lots and lots of different roles and company here at the campus. One would have the right to apply for the desired roles that they want. I am currently working in a organization as an HR generalist as mh summer internship where I am working on multiple projects like creating numerous workplace policies, revamping the whole sales structure at the organization, creating the process of the whole recruitment here at the organization.

Annual fest and various activity in the campus

Our annual business convention is called Erudition it usually happens either in the last week of September or first week of october. Then we have our annual HR conference which happens in the month of September itself. Then we have our Annual management fest either in February or March and is called Synergy. We have one of the best libraries in whole of Delhi in form of the Ratan Tata library. We have projector and stuffs in the lecture rooms, for business analytics students we have computer labs. So nothing out of the ordinary id say but its enough. We have intra department sports tournaments, as well as we go to participate in sports tournaments held at different colleges. We don't have any inter college sports fest as of yet but we are in the process of having one this year. There are various clubs and committees that one can join here like Team Convention that organizers the Annual Business Convention, TEDx as well as the Valedictory Ceremony for the graduating batch, and many more

Student views on the faculty

The faculty to student ratio is decent I am not sure of the numbers but it is fine. The teachers are approachable. Their credentials are pretty good as well, we have LIC director teaching us finance. But some of the teachers need to work up on their way of their way of teaching.

Course Curriculum and Academic Assessments

The curriculum needs a lot of updating to make the students real world ready. The teachers need to be more into practical things like business cases in lectures, discussions, etc. Rather than just focussing on the course curriculum theory. We have assessments here throughout the semester that includes test, presentations, etc. But we have exams only once I.e., the end semester which is worth 70%. The exams are moderate to difficult so that works and are needed.

Otherthan DSE I applied in top central universities like JNU, HCU and BHU. I got selected in HCU and BHU but I choosed DSE over these beacuse it is a prestigious institutions in India and it provides huge opportunities in corporates, higher studies, research and in government institutions. Admission is through CUET entrance exam which is conducted ny NTA every year in March or April. Eligibility criteria is you must have Bachelor degree and Mathematics in 12th or in UG. Cutoff is very high, it's more than 230 out of 300 for general and less tha 230 for other catagory. Admission process is flexible.

Dse is more mathematical than courses provided in GIPE JNU etc . Its teacher student ratio is very low particularly due to large intake of students which is a significant con given other college where students are generally 40-50 max. Dse also offers both placement and study abroad. Recently a student got into havard. Although ISI delhi is at par interms of providing study opportunities abroad

DSE DU: 36 Answered Questions

Is it worth doing an MBA from DBE University of Delhi DFS or DSE?

DigitalDomain

Absolutely, it is worth it! As a DSE student, I can share some great perks you'll get (and I've heard similar things from FMS and DFS folks too).

First off, the return on investment is amazing! You pay a small amount for your MBA and can expect to get back at least 20 times the value.

The entry cutoffs are quite high, usually over 92 percentile for the CAT exam, which means you'll be surrounded by talented peers. This really helps in building a strong network.

The faculty is top-notch, with professors who are PhDs, research authors, and even gold medalists, many having studied at prestigious places like IIMs and FMS. Plus, the libraries are fantastic, including the RTL and Law Faculty libraries.

Since the batch sizes are small, you'll have plenty of chances to join various committees. This means your CV will be jam-packed with quality experiences.

Good luck! :)

Between JNU and Delhi School Of Economics, which option will be the best to pursue a PhD in economics for an individual?

Tithi AggrawalLives in New Delhi

Ph.D. is different from other degrees in which you learn and take exams. During your Ph.D. you need a research guide who takes an interest in your work and is involved in active research in the same field as you.

Unless your guide is active in research, they can not guide you. Here research refers to publishable research in good journals.

Your field of research will determine the better option out of the two to pursue your Ph.D. in Economics. If say, you wish to work on Marxism/Communism or related topics, CESP JNU is the right choice for you. You will find ample assistance in JNU.

If you wish to work in Micro Theory such as on Contract theory or Industrial Organization, DSE will be the right option. There are more faculty members in DSE than CITD JNU who work in these areas.

If you wish to work on DSGE literature ( Macro), the guide will exist as a formality and you will be on your own for the most part. This field of research is not pursued by most in India and you will mostly have to rely on yourself.

Also, if you wish to work in the corporate after your Ph.D. , join DSE as it offers very good placements. JNU does not offer on campus placements. The economics at JNU though, is very enriching. There you will be exposed to a variety of subjects, debates, etc.

You must choose between JNU and DSE for your Ph.D. Economics, based on your personal preference and your field of research.

The choice is dependent upon your field of interest. At DSI, you will find supervisors for various specializations in the field of Economics, the major ones being - Development, Econometrics, Agriculture, Public Policy, Environment, Production, Finance, Micro, and Macro. There is at least one supervisor each for the different specializations.

To get admission into DSI, a candidate, however, must clear the entrance and the interview.

Research from IIMs is concentrated in the areas of management, finance, monetary and fiscal policy.

You must, therefore, make a choice keeping in mind your field of interest and the availability of the right supervisor.

Advait JoshiLives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

When it comes to choosing between DU South Campus and Anil Modi School of Commerce (NMIMS) for pursuing BCom (Hons), there are a few things to consider. Here are some informative points to help you make an informed decision:

DU South Campus:

  • Campus and Infrastructure: Delhi University's South Campus is one of the most prestigious educational institutions in India. The campus is spread over 69 acres of land and is equipped with all the modern facilities that a student may require.

  • Placement opportunities: The placement opportunities for BCom (Hons) students at DU South Campus are quite good, with many reputed companies visiting the campus for recruitment. The average placement package for BCom (Hons) students at DU South Campus is around 5-7 LPA.

Anil Modi School of Commerce (NMIMS):

  • Academic Rigor: ASMSOC is known for its rigorous academic curriculum, which can be challenging for some students. The coursework is demanding and requires a high level of dedication and hard work.
  • Placement opportunities: The placement opportunities for BCom (Hons) students at ASMSOC are quite good, with many reputed companies visiting the campus for recruitment. The average placement package for BCom (Hons) students at ASMSOC is around 6-8 LPA.
  • Location advantage: ASMSOC is located in Mumbai, which is one of the biggest financial hubs in India. This can provide students with excellent networking opportunities and exposure to the industry.

In conclusion, both DU South Campus and Anil Modi School of Commerce (NMIMS) have their own unique advantages and disadvantages. While DU South Campus offers a more flexible and holistic educational experience, ASMSOC provides a rigorous academic curriculum and location advantage. Ultimately, you should choose the institution that aligns with your interests and career goals.

Which is better for an MBA in international business, Delhi School of Economics or IIFT?

Sugandhi Sood
Jayant ThakurMBA in Marketing & Finance, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi (Graduated 2017)

It's important to research the institution's alum base, the profiles offered during placement, the corporate competitions won by the business school, and the brands that frequently visit for recruitment when you are considering a suitable college for an MBA in international business.

In terms of IIFT, it is considered a niche college for international business. However, it's important to keep in mind that the competition for admission is very tough compared to the Delhi School of Economics. It's important to keep in mind that DSE and IIFT are not in the same league. It's important for you to conduct your research and weigh your options before making a decision.

Why are Delhi School of Economics and other better ROI colleges (like JBIMS and many more) for an MBA not as popular as FMS?

Veda Burman
Manoj SaigalBusiness Analyst at Allicient Technologies Pvt Ltd (2020–present)

I have a friend who completed his MBA from the Delhi School of Economics. This answer is based on his opinions about why colleges with better ROI like DSE and JBIMS fail to compete with FMS. He has listed a few reasons for the lack of popularity of such B-schools:

  1. Establishment: DSE MBA first began in 1986 whereas FMS was established in 1954. So the course and the institute are the oldest in the FMS case.
  2. Alumni: Being an older Institute, FMS has a much stronger alumni network that has built a certain level of credibility in the corporate world. This criterion is missing in the case of DSE.
  3. Courses offered: Until 2015, DSE offered courses like Master of Organization Development and Human Resources and Master of International Business instead of MBA. Firstly these specializations are not at par with Finance and Marketing. Secondly, MBA has more value than MHROD and MHIB.
  4. Industrial relations: FMS is much more exposed to the industry and has excellent relations with the corporate world owing to a large number of its alumni.
  5. Faculty: The faculty is almost similar as both DSE and FMS operate under DU. But the shortcomings are compensated for at FMS via the compulsory guest lectures by industry experts.
  6. Crowd: The extremely high cutoff ensures only the most talented people enter FMS thereby increasing the quality of education and peer learning experience at FMS. This aspect too is pretty weak in the case of DSE.

It is because of these strong factors that B Schools like JBIMS fail to match the level of popularity enjoyed by FMS.
