BA is a 3-year undergraduate course that enables students to engage with the human experience, from the ancient world to contemporary media, from political philosophies to philosophical issues. Once a student clears 12th (any stream) with a minimum of 45%–60%, they can take admission in BA courses in subjects such as English, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, Geography, Economics, and so on. The course develops the capacity to think critically, write, communicate, analyse, and comprehend society and culture.

The full form of BA is Bachelor of Arts (BA). There are two types of BA courses: BA General (wide-ranging across all subjects) and BA Honours (single subject in-depth, i.e., BA English Hons.). It is usually admission through CUET (Common University Entrance Test) to all central and state universities (e.g., Delhi University, BHU, JNU, Allahabad University), but some private colleges have separate entrance tests or take admissions based on Class 12 marks. Math and Science are not needed for BA, and students of any stream can apply. The average fee for the course is INR 10,000 to INR 1.5 lakh per year, depending upon the college.

Post BA, students can pursue numerous career opportunities: take postgraduate courses like MA, MBA, MSW, LLB, or take competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, State PSCs, NET (for teaching/research).

Faculty

Hansraj College , University of Delhi, is widely regarded for its strong academic culture and experienced faculty across Arts, Science and Commerce streams. The faculty-to-student ratios is on the higher side, which is typical for DU colleges, but this is balanced through tutorials, practical classes, department-level interactions. Most faculty members are well-qualified, knowledgeable, and approachable, especially for students who actively participate in class and show academic interest. Professors are generally open to doubt-clearing sessions, academic discussions, and mentoring related to higher studies or career paths. The faculty-student relationship is largely professional yet supportive, and many teachers encourage classroom discussions and critical thinking. Overall, Hansraj college offers a disciplined academic environment with component faculty, a relevant curriculum, and a fair evaluation system, making it one of the most respected colleges of Delhi University.

Fees and Financial Aid

According to the Delhi Univversity norms, the fees for my course BA Program (Commerce+Economics) has been the same from new education policy 2022 i.e. Rs. 29735.00; so prior to new education policy 2022, it was lesser as compared to present one. The fees structure for BA Program aslo varies as per combinations you take as extreme Arts field driven courses require low fees such as HIstory, Political Science, Geography etc. and fields such as computer application, economics, maths etc. in combination demand higher fees as they involve practicals despite regular lectures. To conclude we can say that the fees has been steady from new education policy 2022 for BA Program till 2025 and may continue to remain the same for next few upcoming years.

Campus Life

it really doesnt have any fest or festival kind of stuff. basic celebration of diwali decoration, christmas celebration. i havent really been to the central library, i have only been to the reading room area which is good, clean and good for personal study time. there are also computers in the reading room if you want you surf online for study materials. classrooms have basic lighting, fan, windows for ventilation, blackboard, whiteboard, projector and white screen. there are different clubs for each course, like in english there is a club called meraki, in psychology there is a club called chetna

Faculty

i personally think the faculty of english, medieval history are really nice, interactive and easy for any student(im also an introvert) to communicate. i personally liked english faculty the best. the professors are chill, open and ready to listen to your opinion. about my pschology faculty the professor seems always not in a good mood and mostly cancels class. my first semester exams just ended and i would say the paper was good and direct for my course but i have heard from my seniors that faculty never leaves way to cut your marks from your answer sheet. very strict paper evaluation.

Faculty

The faculty members are great and are really inspiring, they are ready to help you whenever needed. The course structure is such that there are 7 papers in total, 2 papers for your major subject, 1 for minors, AEC, GE, SEC and VAC. Your major, minor and GE are for 4 credits each and the others are for 2, so in total you need 22 credits per semester.

Fees and Financial Aid

The course I have is of a B.A Program degree with my major being in Political Science and my minor being in Sociology. The yearly fees is of around 15,000 rupees and apart from that we have to pay a separate sum when applying for semester exams. The amount for the exams vary depending on the papers we have in the semester.

Campus Life

Based on my experience, campus life in my college is simple and largely academic-focused. The social environment is average, and student interaction mostly happens within departments or friend circles. While the campus provides basic opportunities for engagement, activities beyond academics are limited and not very frequent. The college occasionally organizes an annual cultural programme and sometimes a technical or academic event generally held between February and March. These events are conducted on a small scale and depend largely on student participation. They provide some exposure but are not regular or highly structured. The library is functional and accessible, offering essential textbooks and reference books related to the syllabus. A few journals and newspapers are available, but the collection is limited and not frequently updated. Digital resources and online journal access are minimal, so students often rely on external or online sources for detailed study and research. Classrooms are basic and traditional, mainly equipped with blackboards or whiteboards. Only a few classrooms have projectors, which are used occasionally for presentations or seminars. Overall, the infrastructure meets minimum academic requirements but lacks advanced technological facilities. In terms of sports and extracurricular activities, the campus offers basic facilities for games.

Fees and Financial Aid

In the first year I paid around 31k, in the second year it was approx 28k and in third year I paid 29k. My college charge 15k as development fee included in the total fee. Category wise fee varies I'm only aware of a kind of scheme for Jammu student in which they get their total fee refunded at the end of year. There are many scholarship which professor and admin office circulate on whatsapp groups, official mail I'd etc

Faculty

The faculty of the college is great most of the professors of humanities subjects are JNU graduates but most of them are young in age so they might be less experienced than other professors. There are many test assignment and presentations for the internal assessment which comprise 30 marks amd continuous assessment which comprise 40 marks and 90 marks for final semester exam.

Course Curriculum Overview

The name and honour of my course is not that good but the subjects i got that are relevant like economics, maths and business these are my core subjects. The mathematics should be of basic level or of 10th standard the particular reason behind is that most of the students in my batch doesnt have maths in their 12th standard so they find it a difficulty in studying.

Faculty

Faculty students relationship is not that flexible, its not necessary that every work has been delivered in one go but faculties are approachable. Basically 6 exams has been conducted in my course. They are in the moderate mode, its just that who studies can pass the exam. Very rarely students fail to clear the exam.

Faculty

Some members of the faculties are approachable and friendly, however some are not as they don't take classes and are late to class hence not finishing the course. Dr Meeta Nath who teaches philosophy is very sincere and makes sure the course is understandable, making it easier to understand the topics. She is also punctual and finishes the course within time. Philosophy department is very friendly and approachable. There is only one major exam which happens at the end of the sem. Theory exams are quite easy and the questions are predictable. Most of the students pass in humanities courses. Course curriculum is bit outdated as it is mostly theory so there are not much educational visits , thus lacking in immersive experience.

Campus Life

There is an annual fest which is conducted usually in March or Feb which is quite popular and nicely done. There are a good amount of books available in the library and you need your ID card to borrow from the library. There are not much technological provisions within the classroom. Sports like basketball, football, cricket , volleyball games are regularly played by the students in the campus.

The Admin faculties are such a rude type, whenever we go in admin office they always this was our lunch time come after that, or will not do this at the moment come on another day, go to her/ go to him for that work, they give this type of excuses for avoiding the work and sometimes if they didn't listen us and we went to their admin block room they say who said you to come in (but expect all that things there are 2..3 staff which are good and even understands our situation, apart from this for our department faculty (i have no words they are on a balanced scale ??)

Fees and Financial Aid

As per general quota the fees got increased too much as comparing with my previous annual fees, in 1st year it will be approx 12k something but in second year of undergraduatiom it increased arround 13k then in my 3rd year of graduation it will be arround 14.9k and now in current session which is my 4rth year the fees was arround 16k and if we talk about examination fees the ammount of registration fees starts from 1.2k and lastly end up at 1.8k .

Lakshmibai College has a special yearly fest named as Saptrang. This fest is normally held during May - April. The availability of books are good in college library. They contain many knowledgeable books and other than that they have daily newspaper editions in both Hindi & English. Sports & Extracurricular activities are also available and they have gained a special popularity in university as well. No student portal is available only societies led by students are there in college.

Faculty

Faculty members are comparatively less than the students and in this also the teachers with knowledge and teaching skills are less than 1%. Some Faculty teachers are very humble but as I mentioned earlier some are not very nice. Exams are held semestervise. Political Science Department is good and other departments such as English and history are also nice. Some faculties are wannabe strict with students often time leading students to stressed environment.

Course Curriculum Overview

Course and curriculum are good as per the DU syllabus. They they usually use both the tech technologies if they required like if they want to share a content related to the course they used to project and share the information with the student. I quite like the way they teach, they coordinate with the student and they want to involve each one of student present in the class, their contribution, how they have their opinion about some questions or frameworks. Most importantly, I like the debate part of it majorly they used to give topic to us, and we have to debate on it, and I like that very much to like vocal lies our self.

Campus Life

For the campus life, I am enjoying it. It is one of the best campus in the so I don't have any problem about the campus of the faculty of the college. It's really good. I score 3 out of 5 for that thing, but for the travelling part, I kind of like if I get if I get the travelling easy, then it would be very good for me. And the club in my college is really good. One of the society rage which is for the modelling. It's one of the best society in the DU. I know since now more societies like anis, they are also working Ncc. That is also doing great in my college. Social life is also good in my college.

Ques. How is life at JNU for MA students? Is it only hectic or do students have fun too?

● Top Answer By Akriti Banerjee on 04 Jul 23

Ans. My friend pursued his M.A. from JNU and according to him, he spent the best years of his life at JNU. He went to many well-renowned colleges and universities in the USA, however, JNU is unparalleled. At JNU, you will learn even when you are having fun. Female students feel safe on campus. Male students are respectful towards their female counterparts. There are no whistles or cat-calling incidents on campus. Females can walk fearlessly from one end of the campus to the other, even at midnight.  Life for M.A. students is very hectic at JNU. It is more challenging than one can expect. If you do not maintain a healthy work-life balance, you will end up spending all your time sitting in a corner with your laptop and books. Even your group discussions will end up being solely about studies. If you feel that it will be difficult for you to create a healthy balance between studies and enjoyment, you can join JNU as a Ph.D. student rather than as an M.A. student, you will then get more time to enjoy and experience life at JNU.Read more

Ques. Can I apply for LLB after graduating B.A through IGNOU correspondence study?

● Top Answer By Devraj Mehta on 03 Nov 22

Ans. The eligibility criteria for various universities vary. Because IGNOU is a recognized university, you can certainly apply for admission to pursue LLB if you take the CET. The Bar Council of India does not recognize law degree programs completed through distance education, so IGNOU does not offer 3-year LLB, BA LLB, BBA LLB, or LLM programs. It should be noted that no entrance exam is required for IGNOU law programs (except for Ph.D. in Law). Candidates must simply register for IGNOU law programs by completing the application form and submitting their application fee, as well as the course fee.Read more

Ques. What is BPP from IGNOU?

● Top Answer By Alok Thakkar on 21 Oct 22

Ans. The full form of BPP is Bachelor Preparatory Programme. Some important details of the course are as follows: Maximum duration  6 months Minimum duration 2 years Course fees INR 1000 Minimum age 18 years Maximum age No limit  The best part about the program is that it is eligible for almost everyone. No formal qualification is required for this course. BPP at IGNOU is specially designed for the ones who are willing to get a Bachelor's Degree from IGNOU but lack the required qualification i.e., passing 10+2. Because of this lack of qualification the students who haven’t passed 10+2 cannot apply for higher education anywhere. Ques. Is there a semester system in IGNOU for BA courses?

● Top Answer By Anil Karki on 28 Oct 22

Ans. No, there is no semester system in IGNOU for BA courses. In IGNOU students are enrolled in two cycles (January and June). The submission of assignments and TEE (Term End Examination) is scheduled once a year. Although assignments can be submitted only once a year, there is a high chance that if you fail to appear in May or December TEE, you can appear for that particular subject on another cycle. For example, you enrolled in this course in 2021. If you wish to appear for June 2022 TEE, you are required to submit the assignments by March 30 2022. If you fail to appear or pass the TEE, you can appear for the same exam in December 2022.Read more

Ques. Is it a good idea to graduate from IGNOU while simultaneously preparing for UPSC CSE? Exactly how tough is it to get a BA degree from IGNOU?

● Top Answer By Saurabh Mishra on 10 Nov 20

Ans. Indira Gandhi National Open University is a public university approved by NCTE and AICTE. It offers a number of open learning programs and is well known and recognized among a number of different organizations like the Association of Indian Universities, therefore, doing a B.A. degree from here is a good choice. The following points highlight important aspects of obtaining a B.A degree from the institute. Academics: The BA degrees at IGNOU offer a wide variety of core disciplines in subjects like Economics, Sociology, and Public Administration with a lot of the course work overlapping with UPSC preparations. The exams for the coursework are also designed such that they benefit the student if they are appearing for other exams like UPSC. IGNOU is known for its well-founded courses that ensure the best interests of the student. Depending on if one plans to choose a distance learning or open course degree, one can choose to appear for UPSC. BA degree from IGNOU: Obtaining a BA degree from the university depends upon if you are a part-time student at the institute or committed to full-time study. The former situation might be a little tough on the student. Students are continuously evaluated with assignments, marks from which are counted for the final result. Assignments carry a weightage of 30% of the total result. Students are barred from appearing for end term examinations if they miss an assignment. The major evaluation component is the term-end evaluation system which carries a total of 70% weightage. These exams are conducted twice a year. Students are expected to study from the course material provided and answer accordingly to the point. Most importantly, ensure that one is registered for the exam, failing which results are not declared. In conclusion, you can definitely prepare for the UPSC CSE at the same time as your BA degree. While it is not very tough to clear the BA degree, a habit of regular study will definitely help one obtain it with a good result.Read more
