The infrastructure of the college is pretty good and also various developments are being made in terms of infrastructure. College provides various co curricular and sports opportunities to the students like football, basketball, volleyball etc and also focus on various social aspects and participate in swacchta abhiyan and other initiatives.

Placement Experience

If I talk about placement opportunities in my course, the placement opportunities are pretty good, the college offers placement form 3rd year only. Various companies visited our college. The highest package offered was 3 lac and lowest was 2lac, and if you are planing to persue masters further you can do that or can prepare for government exams.

There is always a college fest Saarang which is held in the month of February or March which students enjoy the most. Every festival is celebrated in the college and many departmental fests are organised by the departments. There are books in the library alongwith the ejournals which hepls students to find any book available online. There is also a e-source of books for students. Many students are involved in many societies and activities outside the college like startups and all.

Well, I want to prepare for civils so I opted for this course (B.A. hons. Pol sci). They gave us reality checks through assignment, session and other activities. There need to be outer exposure for students who opt for this course. There exams are set at medium level so that all the students can pass the exams.

The college fees are quite expensive. For B. A it is around 80000 per year including the development fees and exam fees. Also for another course like Music, it is around 1Lakh per year. Though it's expensive they provide the best teachings and the best professors

Faculty

The faculty-to-student ratio is very balanced. E.g.- 3:3. I like all the teachers and they are very friendly and kind. We have 2 exams for the first years. The first exam wasn't that tough but looking forward to the final exams

Faculty

Faculty to student ratio depends on the course, ib mine it is 1:80 , faculty is not really so approachable but yes few people can find their way towards them! The best faculty is of geography and english department because of the way they handle students and other issues! The mid faculty is of political science because they do not put in a lot of effort in sorting problems related to concepts Exams are usually IA and CA they are not at all difficult to crack, easygoing they wre but end sems might take over your life if not cared

Course Curriculum Overview

For civil services this works best, this curriculum provides the backbone of every other subject in the real world, they do prepare in the best way for the resl world, because we talk about real things only. More accessible teachers can be, when it comes to solving doubts and others, curriculum is pretty good to handle and easy to learn! The frequency and timings of exams is often conflicting with the festivals though India is diverse but still teachers do not get the basic idea of courtsey here

Academic life is stressful but also adventurous, as I have joined 2 clubs and 1 cell, which are a health club, drama club and NSS and I am also the G.S of Health club it is hectic but fun. According to me, Our college holds many programmes and all from club to club and also Department-wise monthly. Our college has an exclusive range of book materials in our Library from offline to online and all the classes have their own projector, mic and other technologies. Our sports week usually starts in the last week of October and end in 1st week of November and our college/sports week has already started from the 26th October.

Course Curriculum Overview

I choose Political Science as I feel like Political Science is very relevant in real world's because pol. Science teaches us " how government work?, why do we need government? , what are is our rights? and many relevant more and not only that, it also teaches us to be a vigilant citizens. But the only problem in our education system is the preferance to rote learning For our internal test, we are alloted with 1 hour which I feel is a sufficient as we only have test for 15 or 20 marks and for semesters I guess we are alloted with 3 hours which is also sufficient.

National scholarship provided by reservation. I got 2000 per semester. And state government also provides scholarships. Ss I am studying in aided so fees is very low. According to marks and reservation quotas financial aid and scholarships will be given. Mostly scholarships are given to financially weaker students. My College facilitates so many accessibility to students.

Course Curriculum Overview

My course is relevant in day today life. As I am Political science student my course is about government issues and constitution, structure, framework of government. The teaching method is very good in our college. They suggest more number of books and articles. They explain the subject with day to day relevant issues .

College helds annual and technical festivals regularly at every occasion or festival. Rass 2.0 was held in navratri and diwali mela for diwali . Also it organises a very popular fest named tempest . The books and journals are quite hard to access for ncweb students as they are not allowed in library of college and they had to manage to lend books from a corner called ncweb library and for regular students library facility is also very good. The classrooms of college is quite spacious with ac , projector and white and black boards available in evey classroom . The average capacity of classroom is 120 students. The campus offers NCC and NSS to its students and has the facility to play basketball. There is a student council for both ncweb and regular who manages students affair very well.

Course Curriculum Overview

The relevance of courses and curriculum can be rated average as per the need of the time. The curriculum is very therotical and no real world application in the curriculum is involved. It can be combined with kind of real presentation of the situation to make it more relevant. However, this is a good course if you want to go on with prepration for any competitive exam as it is purely based on basic concepts of social and political life which made me to choose this as my degree option and there will be only one exam that too will be the final semester exam and you will have to give few test can say one in a month to check understanding of your subject.

Faculty

Faculty to student ratio is very low. But the faculties are good and anyone can approach them anytime. When I was a fresher they personally helped me a lot. Almost all the faculties are good but some like Prof. Geeta Kaushik and Prof. B.S. Jha are the best. There way of teaching and types of questions they ask between makes the class interesting. There are no such faculty whom I don't like. Some are good and others are okay. Examination are not very tough. Infact they are easy as there is choice in whole paper. I haven't seen anyone who has failed the exam but some got backs in some papers but they clear it second time with ease

Course Curriculum Overview

The main reason to opt this course was my interest although it has other aspects also like if I have to prepare for competitive examinations and posts under the ministries of government ,like Minister of external affairs, then this course is the best. There should be some debates organised between students although there are presentations but I think debate should be there. The examination should be a little more difficult. Also the question asked are of full length which results in writing everything in exam to meet the required length, so there should be a different pattern having some short questions also.

Its a tution fees. Second you have to pay admission fees during admission time which is approx 3000. At last you have to pay exam fees for each semester exam. If you have practical subject like geography then your exam fees would be approx 700-800 but if you do not have practical subject then you have to oay only 500-550 as a exam fees. So mainly 3 fees you have to pay admission fees , tution fees, exam fees. If you are taking computer as your subject then you have to pay lab fees which is minimal approx 2000

Ques. Which is better for UPSC CSE PREPARATION BA or BA Hons in political science from DU?

● Top Answer By Yuvraj Dua on 07 Oct 22

Ans. BA and BA Honors are both excellent choices for UPSC CSE. It will aid you in your preparation for the Prelims and Main exams. In BA course, you must study three different subjects, such as political science, history, and geography, which means that 50% of the syllabus has already been covered, and if you choose Political Science as an optional subject, another 40% has already been covered. So taking a BA course will improve your chances.  Now, moving on to the BA (Hons), you will study political science in depth, which will help you in the Mains because, as we all know, the difficulty level of optional is higher than the Bachelor level but lower than the Master's level, so it will benefit you greatly. However, because you will only be studying two subjects in your bachelor's programme, you will have to study the third subject on your own. Thus, you should pursue a BA General course. However, as everyone knows, UPSC is all about extreme hard work, luck, proper planning, guidance, and several other factors. Make your own decision and put in your best effort.Read more

Ques. Is selective IGNOU BA and MA political science sufficient for political science optional in UPSC?

● Top Answer By Prithviraj Debbarma on 21 Oct 22

Ans. One of my sister's acquaintances wrote 2016 mains with PSIR optional. She had been working in an IT firm till a month before prelims and had been preparing for a year before.  Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) is quite fast. The study material provided by IGNOU is good for selective reading for specific topics like Justice, Equality, MN Roy, Sri Aurobindo, Theory of international relations etc. But she had an engineering background and revealed that the notes were not of premium quality. Paper 1- Part A Gauba is not bad. But you will need to read the book more than one time to interpret it completely. The information has been divided unevenly within the chapters making it a difficult read. One more good source is Shubra Ranjan's notes. They summarise the points in the UPSC syllabus format. Paper 1- Part B Complete Laxmikant.Read the interpretations given by famous analysts, their viewpoints, case laws and their history and the politics that played behind the evolution of laws and how and why the judiciary evolved. Again for this look into Shubra Ranjan notes. For the remaining topics look into Oxford publications. Paper 2- part A For this part, the best recommendation is Heywood’s global politics. It’s easy to understand and very well written. Combine this with IGNOU notes and you will get good results. You can also go through questions given in Baylis and Smith because sometimes they appear verbatim and quoting the exact same viewpoint can get you some extra points. Paper 2 - Part B Conduct internet research and make your own notes on the topics included in the syllabus. Then go through commentaries on IDSA /IPCS websites. This will give you a better understanding of and current status of relations. Once you are done with all the study materials, focus on developing the vocabulary for PSIR. Make sure your answers are evenly distributed with theories, quotes, facts, years etc. Practice writing answers a lot. Read more

Ques. Which college of DU is better for political science hons: Dyal Singh College or Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College?

● Top Answer By Akriti Banerjee on 15 May 23

Ans. My knowledge is limited to the individual institutes and not their political science departments. In my opinion, Dayal Singh is a better choice than ARSD. here are a few reasons that justify my opinion Dyal Singh College has better infrastructure, a great location, and easy access to the metro station. Whereas. The metro line is still under construction near ARSD College. Both colleges are listed among the top 10 colleges in India.  The crowd quality is similar in both the colleges with Dyal Singh giving a slight edge to ARSD.  Dyal Singh has excellent amenities with a basketball court and spacious ground. Dyal Singh houses a massive library with more than 58,000 books on different disciplines, ranging from rare to the latest. It has a fully air-conditioned reading room with computers Dyal Singh has the facility of UGC-INFLIBNET through which the students can also access e-journals. All these points strongly claim that Dyal Singh is a better choice than ARSD unless you chose ASRD because of personal preferences.Read more

Ques. Which one is better for B.A (Hons.) in political science: Hindu College, University of Delhi, or St. Xavier's Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Arnav Roy on 24 Jul 23

Ans. While my brother was preparing a list of top colleges offering Political Hons, he never came across St. Xavier’s Kolkata while Delhi University and Hindu College specifically topped his list. This in itself proves Hindu College to be better than St. Xavier’s. Additionally, most of the teachers and seniors advised him to choose Hindu.  He was lucky enough to clear the cutoff and join the college. To date, he has no regrets about his decision. The best part of the institute is its superior location in Delhi. The crowd this college welcomes is another reason he was inclined towards it. The seniors are very cooperative and ragging is not tolerated.  The faculty pool comprises professors from top national and international universities. Most of the students pursuing political science either target Civil services or are inclined toward international relations and other political issues. While many may find flaws here because it’s a government college, trust me in the long run it’s your efforts and talents that matter. A college can only provide for you; it is you who has to make the most out of it.Read more

Ques. How better is Shyam Lal College evening for a B.A. Hons in political science?

● Top Answer By Priya Sen, on 03 Nov 21

Ans. One of my friends studied at Shyam Lal College (SLC) Evening. Let me share his views about the college which might give you some information. The overall performance of the faculty is average. Ad-hoc teachers only take regular classes.  The student crowd is not good. Students who are focused on their career are less, therefore have no sense of enthusiasm or competition. The library is not good. Lots of study materials are unavailable. Due to careless teaching and less dedication in studies, the students during the internals are bound to get low scores. No extracurricular activities take place. Societies are for namesake. They exist only on papers. It is suggested that you opt for other colleges because if you are very ambitious, you might get disheartened studying here.Read more
