Faculty

Our college may be lower in terms of ranking but we have top ranked faculties in our college. Most faculties also have provided us research materials of theirs as some students or rayher most quit after 3rd year as none of them opt for the 4th year and this is where our faculties have done a fantastic job in making students realising the importance of finishing the research year.

Campus Life

MSCW is one of the best in infrastructure as even though small but cleanliness is fully there. Washrooms, classrooms, auditorium and all are in best state. ACs though are just in few and the four floor building doesn't even have the lift. Our annual fest Saarang have DJs and all and last year onwards tech competitions too have been started during the event.

Faculty

so faculty to student ratio is around four per department. There are 15 faculties over 400 500 ratio and faculty. Student is very comfortable and very approachable towards the faculties of faculties like Dr Akshat Pushpam because. He is very easily approachable. He easily understands the problem that student is going through and very flexible. I like him because due to my personal issue, didn't able to attend the college for almost 4 to 5 months. Due to this he he made sure I get the attendance. I am able to sit in the exam apart from anyone didn't like Sangeet Ramesh Ram Patel and the reason is the teaching methods. They are very monotonous. They don't make the study interesting for us, and I really don't like about them. There are total two exams in your per semester and few other IA and CA . And usually everyone clears the exam and the relevance of core curriculum is in more in theory practice not in practical. I usually don't see a scope and practical knowledge, but for having a practical knowledge, we have to do more extra courses.

Fees and Financial Aid

The first year fees I have paid was around 16,155 and the fees I have paid now in second year is 14,535. The tuition fees was about 400 questions fee was about thousand registration fee fees, 400 admission fees hundred rupees development fund is about 200 is about 350 and other compulsory charges during the completion of the course as my unreserved category was around 450 rupees examination form is around 1210 also, the fee of my batch mates for reserved category is around 5 to 7000 and the amount of scholarship of financial aid that are available for the student is is through the wise answer sponsorship given by the dairy University for Delhi University students and the single sponsorship given by the college itself, was to intern in the college or to help the staff, and you will get decrease in the upcoming fees or the fees that you were being paying

Faculty

There is no issue with faculty to student ratio. Atleast that's what I have experienced so far. Our class has around 40 students and we have 7 subjects. One teacher for every subject. ( This is for pol sci - DSC ( 3 main subjects ) , SEC , GE, VAC and AEC ) Our philosophy professor ( Shweta Satyam ) is the embodiment of someone you would want to have as your teacher of you are opting for this subject. I am glad I chose this subject as my GE. All other teachers are pretty much the same. They do their job teaching you, but at the end you have to put your efforts. We have exams of 3 main papers in pol sci honours ( CNI, UPT and IIIPT ). Apart from that, if you chose sec, vac subjects that have theory exams then you have to give their exams as well ( I chose practical subs ) . Apart from that you have to give GE and AEC exams I have no idea about students failing or whatever since I am just a 1st year student but rarely anyone fails considering it's a theoretical course.

Campus Life

The annual fest of the college is " Manjari " , held usually between April-May. As DRC is a girl's college , only girls from other colleges are allowed. As I mentioned in my previous answer, a range of books on various disciplines are provided. There is even Indian Constitution entirely written in Braille script fir visually impaired. Projectors are installed, not in every but various classrooms. There are labs with PC's for technical subjects. You can join NSO if you are interested in sports. There is also a sports complex with various sports equipments + gym + steam bath. Yes! There are a lots of societies ( if you join societies, you get attendance relaxation as well). Some of them are debating society, western dance, classical dance, western music, classical music, debating society, fine arts society, quizzing society, etc along with various cultural cells like north east cell , devbhoomi ( for uk and himachal students) etc.

Fees and Financial Aid

I pay 15471/- per year, as my academic fees which also inlcuded my lab fees for my minor subject Statistics The fees paid is during the beginning of the academic year, and is inclusive of all the fees. People who don't have statistics pay around 12000/- (other BA Courses) as they don't have to pay lab fees. Yes, there are scholarships available based on merit i.e performing academicaly well, A scholarship for students excelling in sports, and also for EWS students, The scholarship may range from 5000/- to fully aided depending upon the need.

Course Curriculum Overview

The curriculam is designed for all round development of the student and to make that person an expert in that field, these aspects influeneced me to choose it. Very well, with extra paper of real world application on each subject it ensures that we take something from the course and become industry ready The teachings methods and cirriculam are excellent I don't think any changes are required Exams are all year round, every month and are extremly difficult to deal with, as Xavier's bar is very high.

Faculty

I am not clear about the faculty and student ratio . But the teachers are alloted for every subject and they even teach well. We have 7 subjects in total. Talking about my course, I have 3 DSC's i.e IIIPT, CNI and UPT that is my core subject. In additional we have GE ( general elective) in which we can even get a minor degree if we study the same GE till 7 semesters as we have to opt GE every semester. For AEC we have two options i.e. EVS and a language sub (hindi or Sanskrit) which was decided by the college itself like half of the courses have to study Hindi and others have to study EVS and vice versa for the next Semester. Then we have SEC (skill enhancement course) and VAC ( Value Addition Value ) which we can chose ourselves and again we have change in next semester. Talking about exams we have 1st semester exams starting in December and ending in January and from February the second semester begins in which the entire syllabus including the Core subjects got changed. 66.66% attendance is compulsory to appear in exams. In first semester exams the questions are direct we have one question of around 18-19 marks in which we have to write around 9-10 pages each question. 10 given have been given out of which we have to do 5 in 3 hours.

Fees and Financial Aid

I am currently pursuing my degree in B.A. Political science (hons) from Kamala Nehru College of Delhi University. Being a 1st year student my fees is 16,450 INR per year. You can also apply for fee concessions if you have any financial problem or you are good in studies. There are few scholarships by the government to which you can apply. The fees is same every year as per my knowledge.Tuition fess is 180 rupees, university student welfare fund is 250 rupee , college student welfare fund is 2030 rupee , University Development fund is 1500 rupee, College Development Fund is 4360 rupee , University facilities and services charges is 1500 rupees, College facilities and services charges is 6380 rupee and economically weaker section support University. Fund is 250 rupee. The fees for all PWD students for all courses is 120 rupee per year. Apart from this We have been asked to submit rupees 100 for alumni meet etc of my department, which we have to submit once in the three years, but its totally upto the college and the department if they ask for it or not. One drawback is this college doesn't have any hostel and as it is South Delhi the prices for PG are very high like starting is from 15k or more which is not affordable for everyone.

Fees and Financial Aid

Initially, my fees in the first year was around ?16,000, but apparently in the third year, it has increased to ?21,000. I would say that every year the fees is hiking by ?2000 at least. And the reason they give for this is that they are increasing the infrastructure and lab equipments so that is why the pieces hiking up but apart from this there is no other expenditure. You have except that for each semester exam, you have to pay some amount like ?1000 to ?1500 to sit in the examination. And the economically weaker sections do have some kind of fees relief after they have submitted their proof.

Faculty

The faculty I would say of all the courses are amazing. They are all PhD holders from reputed institutions and very well cooperative. Faculty very approachable, you can go to them for your career advice. Internship advice even personal solutions. This continuous assessment and one internal paper, every semester as well as the final paper for each semester. Very made and very relevant to the course curriculum, only very rarely all student score back or either. It is easy to clear the exam.

Faculty

The faculty to student ratio is 1:17. Faculty is easily approachable for any student. They solve each and every problem of the students. Niraj sir is an associate professor and is teaching since 2005 and he is very well equipped with student behaviour and keeps every student disciplined and has a great knowledge in comparative politics and political theory. Gaurav sir is a guest lecturer and has a vast knowledge in International Relations and is available through a text at any time of the day. Shambhavi mam is sweetest of all. Other teachers have a great knowledge in their subjects. One teacher, Subodh sir is way too dramatic. He doesn't take any classes and is too egoistic to handle students. Chandrika mam teaches public administration very well. There are 2 semesters per year. The course is of 3 years till now but the people wish to do the research can stay back for a 4th year. There are exams for each semester. Exams are easy. Just the students who doesn't study at all won't pass otherwise everybody qualifies. The course curriculum is too relevant and effective to today's world. The subjects like public policy, International Relations, public administration or global politics make it interesting too.

Campus Life

Overall campus experience is good. The annual fest of the college is Yuvaan. It is held in Feb last week to March 1st week. It is for 3 days consecutively. There are different fests for different particular courses too. Like for my course it is Svasti. The course/departmental fests are usually held in the even semester time that is between the Jan to April months. But it is on the students and facilities so as to when they would like to organize their fests. There aren't any sponsorship as the principal of the college doesn't allow that. The fests are done with the budget of the college/departments only. The books are available in the college library but many books I've searched for weren't available. So, for this I would rate it low. But the library is fully air conditioned. The facilities are there but the cameras that are installed doesn't work, not all but most of them doesn't. Sports facilities are nice. There is a fully air conditioned gym in the basement as well as sports room for carrom tennis etc. There are clubs/societies for many extra curricular activities like music, dance , theatres, filmmaking and photography etc which are fully functional and good for overall student development.

Fees and Financial Aid

Fees for the course which i have opted is very reasonable it is 18000 per year, along with this some extra benefits in the reduction of fees is also given to reservation categories. There are certain scholarships are also provided to the student based on the academics, reservation, sports and other fields.

Faculty

As i already mentioned before that the faculty of my college is actually very nice. They are supportive and approachable. Faculty members are well educated and their teaching methods are also good. The relationship between the students and faculty is open and free.

Faculty

As per my class there is 58 student. I have 5-6 subject and we have separate teachers for every subject. So teachers are totally helpfull and they provide us quality of education. I like history department faculty. Because they teach us in chill mode they are totally chill what they teach we easily understand. Sometimes i dislikey my political science facility because new teachers young teacher are feel.they are well known. They are like oversmart. Exam question paper are moderate for the students. So everyone easily crack it.

Campus Life

Annual fest are organises every year. Our college fest name is YUVAAN which one of the best fest in all over DU. And which 3 days fest and we totally enjoy in these days. Like every time when you go college for attending classes but then you notice that in college programme is happening so every student should attend the program instead of classes

Campus Life

In the college I found very good friends but as I already tell you that everything that is happening in college is only purpose to complete the formality click some pictures and nothing. So you can understand what I am telling you.

Ques. Which is better for UPSC CSE PREPARATION BA or BA Hons in political science from DU?

● Top Answer By Yuvraj Dua on 07 Oct 22

Ans. BA and BA Honors are both excellent choices for UPSC CSE. It will aid you in your preparation for the Prelims and Main exams. In BA course, you must study three different subjects, such as political science, history, and geography, which means that 50% of the syllabus has already been covered, and if you choose Political Science as an optional subject, another 40% has already been covered. So taking a BA course will improve your chances.  Now, moving on to the BA (Hons), you will study political science in depth, which will help you in the Mains because, as we all know, the difficulty level of optional is higher than the Bachelor level but lower than the Master's level, so it will benefit you greatly. However, because you will only be studying two subjects in your bachelor's programme, you will have to study the third subject on your own. Thus, you should pursue a BA General course. However, as everyone knows, UPSC is all about extreme hard work, luck, proper planning, guidance, and several other factors. Make your own decision and put in your best effort.Read more

Ques. Is selective IGNOU BA and MA political science sufficient for political science optional in UPSC?

● Top Answer By Prithviraj Debbarma on 21 Oct 22

Ans. One of my sister's acquaintances wrote 2016 mains with PSIR optional. She had been working in an IT firm till a month before prelims and had been preparing for a year before.  Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) is quite fast. The study material provided by IGNOU is good for selective reading for specific topics like Justice, Equality, MN Roy, Sri Aurobindo, Theory of international relations etc. But she had an engineering background and revealed that the notes were not of premium quality. Paper 1- Part A Gauba is not bad. But you will need to read the book more than one time to interpret it completely. The information has been divided unevenly within the chapters making it a difficult read. One more good source is Shubra Ranjan's notes. They summarise the points in the UPSC syllabus format. Paper 1- Part B Complete Laxmikant.Read the interpretations given by famous analysts, their viewpoints, case laws and their history and the politics that played behind the evolution of laws and how and why the judiciary evolved. Again for this look into Shubra Ranjan notes. For the remaining topics look into Oxford publications. Paper 2- part A For this part, the best recommendation is Heywood’s global politics. It’s easy to understand and very well written. Combine this with IGNOU notes and you will get good results. You can also go through questions given in Baylis and Smith because sometimes they appear verbatim and quoting the exact same viewpoint can get you some extra points. Paper 2 - Part B Conduct internet research and make your own notes on the topics included in the syllabus. Then go through commentaries on IDSA /IPCS websites. This will give you a better understanding of and current status of relations. Once you are done with all the study materials, focus on developing the vocabulary for PSIR. Make sure your answers are evenly distributed with theories, quotes, facts, years etc. Practice writing answers a lot. Read more

If you belong to other states, the cut-off will be around 90-95%. depends on how the rest of your peers have performed. These cut-offs are as per the 1st merit list for Open category students. Ques. Which college of DU is better for political science hons: Dyal Singh College or Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College?

● Top Answer By Akriti Banerjee on 15 May 23

Ans. My knowledge is limited to the individual institutes and not their political science departments. In my opinion, Dayal Singh is a better choice than ARSD. here are a few reasons that justify my opinion Dyal Singh College has better infrastructure, a great location, and easy access to the metro station. Whereas. The metro line is still under construction near ARSD College. Both colleges are listed among the top 10 colleges in India.  The crowd quality is similar in both the colleges with Dyal Singh giving a slight edge to ARSD.  Dyal Singh has excellent amenities with a basketball court and spacious ground. Dyal Singh houses a massive library with more than 58,000 books on different disciplines, ranging from rare to the latest. It has a fully air-conditioned reading room with computers Dyal Singh has the facility of UGC-INFLIBNET through which the students can also access e-journals. All these points strongly claim that Dyal Singh is a better choice than ARSD unless you chose ASRD because of personal preferences.Read more

Ques. Which one is better for B.A (Hons.) in political science: Hindu College, University of Delhi, or St. Xavier's Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Arnav Roy on 24 Jul 23

Ans. While my brother was preparing a list of top colleges offering Political Hons, he never came across St. Xavier’s Kolkata while Delhi University and Hindu College specifically topped his list. This in itself proves Hindu College to be better than St. Xavier’s. Additionally, most of the teachers and seniors advised him to choose Hindu.  He was lucky enough to clear the cutoff and join the college. To date, he has no regrets about his decision. The best part of the institute is its superior location in Delhi. The crowd this college welcomes is another reason he was inclined towards it. The seniors are very cooperative and ragging is not tolerated.  The faculty pool comprises professors from top national and international universities. Most of the students pursuing political science either target Civil services or are inclined toward international relations and other political issues. While many may find flaws here because it’s a government college, trust me in the long run it’s your efforts and talents that matter. A college can only provide for you; it is you who has to make the most out of it.Read more

Ques. How better is Shyam Lal College evening for a B.A. Hons in political science?

● Top Answer By Priya Sen, on 03 Nov 21

Ans. One of my friends studied at Shyam Lal College (SLC) Evening. Let me share his views about the college which might give you some information. The overall performance of the faculty is average. Ad-hoc teachers only take regular classes.  The student crowd is not good. Students who are focused on their career are less, therefore have no sense of enthusiasm or competition. The library is not good. Lots of study materials are unavailable. Due to careless teaching and less dedication in studies, the students during the internals are bound to get low scores. No extracurricular activities take place. Societies are for namesake. They exist only on papers. It is suggested that you opt for other colleges because if you are very ambitious, you might get disheartened studying here.Read more
