What Students Say
Likes
- Since the college is not affiliated with DUSU, the environment here is more peaceful and laid back if that's what you are looking for.
- The library is full of diverse collection of books. We also have the full Indian Constitution written in Braille script.
Dislikes
- The infrastructure needs to be improved. Since the fees is higher than other north campus colleges, infrastructure needs to level up its game too.
- No department of political science or history ( even though these are some of the most demanding subjects among humanities students)
- I feel like canteen could be a bit cheaper and food could be more tasty.
Course Curriculum Overview
I have always had in interest in political science so thats why I decided to opt for this subject. A subject like political science is of utmost relevance in today's scenario. One should know about their rights to raise voice against wrongs. However I think simple and fluid language should be used in study material. There is a lot to cram but it's not necessarily tough if you enjoy the subject.
Internships Opportunities
Our course usually doesn't offer internship opportunities ( pol sci hons ). Commerce courses like Economics hons , bcom hons and bcom programme do. If you want to keep yourself updated about internships in DRC, apply for the placement cell of our College which is "vriddhi"
Placement Experience
3rd year ( 5th semester ). There are no such placements in my course so I can't tell you much about it. I plan to sit for civil services examinations ( taken by UPSC ) after getting my undergraduate degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
I paid ?32100 for my first year. There was no registration fee for college specifically but I paid ?150 to delhi university. As far as I am aware, science courses have a bit higher course fee in daulat ram college, delhi university ( 37k per year approx). My friends in commece courses pay around 34-35k per year. Scholarships are available more for category students and students with family income below a certain amount. Even though there are merit based scholarships ( as told by my professors ), I haven't came across any ( maybe because it's just been a month since I started college) Fees of DRC is comparatively higher if you compare it with other du colleges.
Campus Life
The annual fest of the college is " Manjari " , held usually between April-May. As DRC is a girl's college , only girls from other colleges are allowed. As I mentioned in my previous answer, a range of books on various disciplines are provided. There is even Indian Constitution entirely written in Braille script fir visually impaired. Projectors are installed, not in every but various classrooms. There are labs with PC's for technical subjects. You can join NSO if you are interested in sports. There is also a sports complex with various sports equipments + gym + steam bath. Yes! There are a lots of societies ( if you join societies, you get attendance relaxation as well). Some of them are debating society, western dance, classical dance, western music, classical music, debating society, fine arts society, quizzing society, etc along with various cultural cells like north east cell , devbhoomi ( for uk and himachal students) etc.
Admission
So we had this preference based system in delhi university 's seat allocation system. The colleges I put above this one in my preference list were Hindu, Ramjas and Miranda. But I wasn't able to clear the cut offs since pol sci hons is a very demanding course. To apply in delhi university, you have to clear CUET exam taken by NTA after giving your 12th board exams.
Faculty
There is no issue with faculty to student ratio. Atleast that's what I have experienced so far. Our class has around 40 students and we have 7 subjects. One teacher for every subject. ( This is for pol sci - DSC ( 3 main subjects ) , SEC , GE, VAC and AEC ) Our philosophy professor ( Shweta Satyam ) is the embodiment of someone you would want to have as your teacher of you are opting for this subject. I am glad I chose this subject as my GE. All other teachers are pretty much the same. They do their job teaching you, but at the end you have to put your efforts. We have exams of 3 main papers in pol sci honours ( CNI, UPT and IIIPT ). Apart from that, if you chose sec, vac subjects that have theory exams then you have to give their exams as well ( I chose practical subs ) . Apart from that you have to give GE and AEC exams I have no idea about students failing or whatever since I am just a 1st year student but rarely anyone fails considering it's a theoretical course.
Night Life
As DRC is situated in the heart of North Campus, there are various places to explore. You can go thrifting in kamla nagar, eat at cafes in Hudson lane, hangout at faculty of arts and attend events of various colleges ( ramjas, srcc and Miranda being it's closest neighbours). I usually don't go out at night but my friends do, and they consider the north campus pretty safe. Just take someone with you especially if you are a girl, go with a friend, avoid going alone late at night if you are not familiar with the area.
