What Students Say
Likes
- Faculty of my course is too good. Even the guest lecturers are great to be interacted with. All of them are really helpful and friendly, easily approachable.
- Social interaction is as per the individual. How much is he/she able to extract from people is the main thing. If you're able to make enough connections it's great.
- Infrastructure is better than even some of the North Campus du colleges. It is too good. Feels like second home. Most of the resources are available.
Dislikes
- There isn't much exposure to the main Delhi crowd.
- The college is located in East Delhi that is too far away from the main Delhi.
Course Curriculum Overview
I would say it has been a meaningful and mostly relevant experience for me, though it definitely has it's own ups and downs. The flexibility offered by NEP has always been appealing to me since it allowed me to explore skill based and interdisciplinary subjects beyond the core subjects. In terms of preparing me for the real world, the course does a good job of sharpening critical thinking and building a solid foundation for further studies and also for exams like UPSC. But I do feel there's a gap when it comes to practical exposure, there's not much in the way of hands on learning, like field research, case studies, or policy analysis, which I personally think would make the curriculum more relevant.
Fees and Financial Aid
There is an yearly fees of 16450 for B.A(Hons) Political Science in University of Delhi overall. In addition, there are examination fees of 1210 in 1 semester and 1310 in alternate semester according to the course opted. There are extra lab charges 100 per lab paper. There are scholarship also available for economically weaker students with proper documentation and also the merit is seen and then only there are some students selected for the scholarship.
Campus Life
Overall campus experience is good. The annual fest of the college is Yuvaan. It is held in Feb last week to March 1st week. It is for 3 days consecutively. There are different fests for different particular courses too. Like for my course it is Svasti. The course/departmental fests are usually held in the even semester time that is between the Jan to April months. But it is on the students and facilities so as to when they would like to organize their fests. There aren't any sponsorship as the principal of the college doesn't allow that. The fests are done with the budget of the college/departments only. The books are available in the college library but many books I've searched for weren't available. So, for this I would rate it low. But the library is fully air conditioned. The facilities are there but the cameras that are installed doesn't work, not all but most of them doesn't. Sports facilities are nice. There is a fully air conditioned gym in the basement as well as sports room for carrom tennis etc. There are clubs/societies for many extra curricular activities like music, dance , theatres, filmmaking and photography etc which are fully functional and good for overall student development.
Admission
I chose this college based on infrastructure as there wasn't much information available about this college online. Alsoz on the du official website, this college is mentioned as North campus which was a confusion for me at that time as I thought it was true but it wasn't as this is an off campus college of Delhi University. The admissions in the whole of University of Delhi is based on CUET scores. The preferences need to be filled by the students and then he/she is allotted the college according to the cit off and the scores. The subjects that need to be taken in cuet should be the same as in 12th boards. For humanities/arts courses the scores are out of 800. So, for arts courses the normal cit off for general category students are around 650, for obc students around 500 and for sc/st is much lower.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is 1:17. Faculty is easily approachable for any student. They solve each and every problem of the students. Niraj sir is an associate professor and is teaching since 2005 and he is very well equipped with student behaviour and keeps every student disciplined and has a great knowledge in comparative politics and political theory. Gaurav sir is a guest lecturer and has a vast knowledge in International Relations and is available through a text at any time of the day. Shambhavi mam is sweetest of all. Other teachers have a great knowledge in their subjects. One teacher, Subodh sir is way too dramatic. He doesn't take any classes and is too egoistic to handle students. Chandrika mam teaches public administration very well. There are 2 semesters per year. The course is of 3 years till now but the people wish to do the research can stay back for a 4th year. There are exams for each semester. Exams are easy. Just the students who doesn't study at all won't pass otherwise everybody qualifies. The course curriculum is too relevant and effective to today's world. The subjects like public policy, International Relations, public administration or global politics make it interesting too.
Night Life
There is an open cafeteria outside the canteen which is a nice hangout spot for many groups in college. There is a girls hostel for 68 girls but that isn't enough. There isn't any night life in campus for even the girls of the hostel as the curfew timing is 8pm. The outside locality is good to roam around at the evening with trees all around and the normal sit and chill eatlets. There's chai stalls and paratha stalls too. But the locality isn't safe for girls to roam at night as it is the Delhi border and not the main Delhi crowd lives there.
