GATE EC Exam Pattern and Weightage

The GATE EC paper has 65 questions for 100 marks in three hours. General Aptitude is a fixed 15 marks and Engineering Mathematics about 13, with the core electronics and communication subjects carrying the rest. Communications, Digital and Analog Circuits usually carry the largest technical share.

  • General Aptitude: 15 marks, fixed in every paper.
  • Engineering Mathematics: about 13 marks, a steady high-return block.
  • High-weightage core: Communications, Digital Circuits and Analog Circuits.
  • Steady scorers: Networks, Signals and Systems, Electronic Devices and Electromagnetics.

Which Topics to Revise First

Give the most time to the subjects that carry the most marks and connect to the rest. Networks and Signals support many later topics, while Communications and Digital Circuits are big, direct scorers.

  • Lock down Networks and Signals and Systems early, since they feed the rest.
  • Give the most practice to Communications, Analog and Digital Circuits.
  • Keep Engineering Mathematics close, as it returns across the paper.
  • Do not leave General Aptitude for the last day.

How to Use These Notes

Use each PDF as a theory and formula base beside daily practice. Read a topic, note its key results, then solve previous year questions on it. Before mock tests, the complete-syllabus book and the formula book make revision fast for students.
