Note that GATE score validity is 3 years, i.e. you can use this score for M.Tech admission till 2026-27. Also, if you have previous valid GATE scorecards of 2023 and 2022, you can use the best of the three for admissions this year. Score Calculation and Normalization

GATE Score Calculation and Normalization

GATE score is calculated based on the actual raw marks for single session papers and based on the normalized marks for multiple session papers. This year, only 2 papers have been conducted in 2 shifts- CS (Computer Science Engineering) and Civil Engineering (CE). Now, to account for the differences in difficulty level across the shifts, the raw scores are first normalized and then GATE score is calculated based on the resultant normalized marks. The formula used to calculate GATE normalized marks for multiple shift papers is provided below:

GATE 2024 score normalization formula

Now, the GATE score out of 1000 for all students is computed using the below-mentioned formula:

GATE 2024 Score Calculation Formula

What is the difference between GATE Score and GATE Marks?

GATE marks refer to the actual raw marks obtained out of 100 as per the exam marking scheme. On the other hand, GATE scores are represented out of 1000 based on the qualifying marks. Given below is the GATE score vs marks analysis of AIR 1 based on previous year GATE results.

Ques. Can I check GATE result by name?

Ans. No, you are not allowed to check GATE result by name. The only way to check your GATE result is through login by email address/ enrolment ID and password.

Ques. What is the highest GATE score?

Ans. The highest GATE score is 1000. GATE 2025 score calculator uses the formula for the same based on the qualifying marks. GATE marks out of 100 are normalized for multiple shift papers before calculating GATE score out of 1000.

Ques. Will GATE score card be issued to a student who has not qualified the examination?

Ans. No, GATE scorecards will be issued to only the qualified students. However, the result will be displayed for all students irrespective of whether they meet the minimum qualifying cut off marks or not.

Ques. What is GATE score?

Ans. GATE score is the marks obtained by the candidates out of 1000. These scores are the marks computed based on the qualifying marks and the raw (for single session paper) or normalized marks (for multi-session paper) obtained in the exam.

Ques. How to calculate GATE scores?

Ans. GATE scores are calculated using a special formula which is based on the actual marks obtained in single single-session paper or normalized marks obtained in a multi-session paper and the qualifying marks for GATE 2025 exam. GATE 2025 scores are obtained out of 1000. To know more on GATE 2025 score calculation, you can use the link here.

Ques. Is 25 a good score in GATE 2025?

Ans. According to the information brochure for IISc GATE 2025 Result, the minimum qualifying marks for every subject is 25 (out of 100). However, based on the number of candidates who appeared for the exam and have qualified, these qualifying cutoff marks could change. Based on previous year trends, usually 6-7 lakh candidates apply for GATE exam, of these only 15% candidates can qualify the exam. This means that only 15% students can achieve 25 and above marks. Having said this, 25 is not a very good score in GATE exam. With 25 marks in GATE candidates can get lower NIT and other M.Tech colleges but not IIT.

Ques. How many students appeared in GATE 2025?

Ans. The total number of students who appeared and qualified GATE 2025 will be updated after the declaration of results. However, based on the online reports, around 6.8 lakh candidates have appeared for the exam scheduled on Feb 3, 4, 10 and 11, 2025. IISc Bangalore has received over 8 lakh applications this year which is 25% more than the applications received in the previous year. Check how many students registered or appeared for GATE 2025?

*The article might have information for the previous academic years, which will be updated soon subject to the notification issued by the University/College.
