GATE Biotechnology Exam Pattern 2024 has been framed by IISc Bangalore this year. IISc Bangalore has mentioned the pattern clearly in the official brochure which is released at gate2024.iisc.ac.in. However, you can check the detailed GATE Biotechnology Exam Pattern 2024 mentioned in this article.
IISc Bangalore has not made any changes to GATE Biotechnology exam pattern this year. But to ace this paper, you should understand its pattern first to navigate through the question paper easily. As per the GATE Biotechnology exam pattern 2024, there are two sections - General Aptitude and core discipline subjects opted by candidates.
This exam will be held for 100 marks in total. The General Aptitude, which is compulsory for all, will be of just 15 marks. If you have opted for Biotechnology (BT), you should know that Engineering Mathematics is subject-specific and the total marks for this paper is 17. The core subject which is Biotechnology will be of 72 marks. The total number of questions you will get is 65, including GA questions.
One of the major concerns to students is the negative marking in GATE Biotechnology of the exam. Negative marks is applicable for 1 mark MCQs and 2 marks questions. No negative marks will be deducted for Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT).
The weightage of each section holds great importance in the exam. Through an analysis of GATE Biotechnology Question Papers, you will get to know the weightage of each section and its associated sub-topics. This year in GATE 2024, you can expect 25-28 questions from Mathematics, 15-20 from Biochemistry and 10-12 questions from Microbiology. Expected GATE 2024 Biotechnology (BT) Weightage
Candidates appearing for GATE Biotechnology (BT) paper can choose Biomedical Engineering (BM), or Life Science (XL) as their second paper under the revised two paper combination list.
Ques. What is the format of GATE Biotechnology?
Ans. As per the GATE Biotechnology exam pattern, there are three secions- General Aptitude (GA), Engineering Mathematics and Biotechnology subject. General Aptitude will have 10 question of 15 marks. Engineering Mathematics and Biotechnology will have 55 questions for 85 marks.
Ques. What is the mark distribution in GATE Biotechnology?
Ans. In GATE Biotechnology, questions will be of 1 mark and 2 marks. In General Aptitude (GA) section, you will get 10 questions in total; 5 questions of 1 mark and the next 5 questions of 2 marks. But there will be 55 questions for a total of 85 marks in the Engineering Mathematics and Biotechnology section.
Ques. Is there negative marking in GATE Biotechnology?
Ans. Yes, there is negative marking in GATE Biotechnology paper. For 1 mark question, ⅓ of the marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. For 2 marks questions, there will be deduction of ⅔ of the marks for every incorrect answer.
