Delhi University: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 153 Reviews

Admission to the University of Delhi is conducted online, focusing on merit through cut-off sheets without interviews, though a volunteer-based entrance exam is available. The faculty is highly qualified, with many holding PhDs, offering a robust academic environment despite some communication challenges. Faculty-to-student ratios vary from 1:15 to 1:150, providing adequate interaction. Exams occur each semester, with internal assessments contributing to final grades. The tuition fee ranges from 18,000 to 40,000 INR for three years, and students affected by COVID-19 can receive a full fee waiver.

Living expenses in Delhi and limited hostel availability may burden lower-middle-class students. Placements begin in the third year, with companies like Dell, HCl, and Amazon offering roles and packages up to 58 lakh INR. Average packages range from 2.5 to 8 lakh INR, with 60-70% placement success. Commerce and management fields have more opportunities, while arts courses see fewer placements. Internships are provided by companies like ICICI Bank and Tata, with stipends from 5,000 to 40,000 INR.

Scholarships are available for reserved categories and economically weaker sections, with options like Hamdard Education and Datia Darbar Scholarships. Annually, fees range from INR 3,000 to INR 25,000, with moderate increases and additional financial aid for needy students.

Delhi University: 1 Answered Question

Which is better for UPSC CSE PREPARATION BA or BA Hons in political science from DU?

Yuvraj DuaM.A. in Politics & International Relations, Jawaharlal Nehru University

BA and BA Honors are both excellent choices for UPSC CSE. It will aid you in your preparation for the Prelims and Main exams.

In BA course, you must study three different subjects, such as political science, history, and geography, which means that 50% of the syllabus has already been covered, and if you choose Political Science as an optional subject, another 40% has already been covered. So taking a BA course will improve your chances.

Now, moving on to the BA (Hons), you will study political science in depth, which will help you in the Mains because, as we all know, the difficulty level of optional is higher than the Bachelor level but lower than the Master's level, so it will benefit you greatly. However, because you will only be studying two subjects in your bachelor's programme, you will have to study the third subject on your own.

Thus, you should pursue a BA General course. However, as everyone knows, UPSC is all about extreme hard work, luck, proper planning, guidance, and several other factors. Make your own decision and put in your best effort.

I paid ?32100 for my first year. There was no registration fee for college specifically but I paid ?150 to delhi university. As far as I am aware, science courses have a bit higher course fee in daulat ram college, delhi university ( 37k per year approx). My friends in commece courses pay around 34-35k per year. Scholarships are available more for category students and students with family income below a certain amount. Even though there are merit based scholarships ( as told by my professors ), I haven't came across any ( maybe because it's just been a month since I started college) Fees of DRC is comparatively higher if you compare it with other du colleges.

Fees and Financial Aid:

I am currently pursuing my degree in B.A. Political science (hons) from Kamala Nehru College of Delhi University. Being a 1st year student my fees is 16,450 INR per year. You can also apply for fee concessions if you have any financial problem or you are good in studies. There are few scholarships by the government to which you can apply. The fees is same every year as per my knowledge.Tuition fess is 180 rupees, university student welfare fund is 250 rupee , college student welfare fund is 2030 rupee , University Development fund is 1500 rupee, College Development Fund is 4360 rupee , University facilities and services charges is 1500 rupees, College facilities and services charges is 6380 rupee and economically weaker section support University. Fund is 250 rupee. The fees for all PWD students for all courses is 120 rupee per year. Apart from this We have been asked to submit rupees 100 for alumni meet etc of my department, which we have to submit once in the three years, but its totally upto the college and the department if they ask for it or not. One drawback is this college doesn't have any hostel and as it is South Delhi the prices for PG are very high like starting is from 15k or more which is not affordable for everyone.

Initially, my fees in the first year was around ?16,000, but apparently in the third year, it has increased to ?21,000. I would say that every year the fees is hiking by ?2000 at least. And the reason they give for this is that they are increasing the infrastructure and lab equipments so that is why the pieces hiking up but apart from this there is no other expenditure. You have except that for each semester exam, you have to pay some amount like ?1000 to ?1500 to sit in the examination. And the economically weaker sections do have some kind of fees relief after they have submitted their proof.
