The faculty at NIT Silchar is well-qualified, with approximately 90% holding PhDs, many from prestigious institutions like IITs and NITs. The faculty-to-student ratio is about 1:90, and professors are generally accessible, providing personalized attention and support. Teaching experience varies, with many having over 10 years and some being younger PhD scholars. While proficiency in English is occasionally noted as an issue, most faculty members are knowledgeable and focused on student development, offering guidance for exams such as GATE.

Faculties are really good. They are approachable too. Especially in reasearch oriented project. They provide you good opportunities if someone is really passionate about research oriented project. Every semester has two exams . Mid sem and end sem Mid sem : 30 marks End sem : 50 marks It's doable in one night ????

There are sufficient faculty in all branches according to students ratio. Girls boys ratio is very less.In case of professor student engagement mostly professors are not friendly to approach they are very egoistic and show the student down all the time and never appreciate students efforts for building anything. Some Professors are good , friendly they give students opportunity for projects, research and other academic programs. For example Hod of Electronics and Communication Engineering department Dr Kaushik Guha sir isa very fry person and always brings academic events for students skill improvement .He use to communicate with students for their academic problems. And in the same campus another Hod of Mechanical engineering department Dr Halder is a very rude and selfish person with a very downward personality. If a person go to his cabin he or she cannot enter from the cigerette smokes firstly and even the student enters he uses abusive words slangs to that student and throw him or her out by insulting and humiliating then he focus on the student as his Target to destroy his or her career by pulling their subjects backlog . There are total 2 main exams one is mid semester of 30 marks and another is end semester of 50 marks and a minor exam of 10 marks in each semester.students have to score 35 for passing each subjects

Faculty:

In my department there is two sections in which section a has 80 students and remaining comes in section b. Their is one faculty for one subject. For most professor approaching and asking doubt are easy. They give their time after the class. Some of professor only give assignment and that is very tough to write along with studies. In my first semester there is 3 exams held. Sessional, minor and end semester. Sessional and minor exams both carry 20-20 marks and end semester exam carry 60 marks. The easy one is sessional and tougher one is end semester. There is one subject mechanical workshop where many students fail to clear the exam and average is very low but not in that way that we don't pass.

The professors here are quite chill with the students and they try their best to make the concepts clear for the students. The number of faculties per subject is also quite great as some subjects have 5 to 6 different faculties for a single semester. I generally love the teaching style of Purushottam Sir who is the faculty in charge for the Mechanical Engineering branch. Sir teach very well and also make the students memorise everything that he had taught in his last class. There are a few faculties which I don't like but it will not be appropriate for me to take their names out as it may be for me that I don't like them but other students would be loving them. Each semester includes two main exams namely, Mid - semester exam and End - semester exam. There are other sessional tests, lab exams too which are scheduled by the respective faculties. The sessionals, lab exams , mid semester exams are quite easy but the end semester exam is quite moderate to tough. Generally, 15-20 students fail to clear the exam including all of the branches. The course curriculum is quite relative as the curriculum includes the important practical skills too other than the theoritical part.

The faculty and student interaction is great. In a class of 80, the professors manage to maintain and give importance to each. Each group of 40, gets a professor assigned, called the faculty advisor who is there to lookafter every academic and non academic issues. Throughout the semester, there are 3 important exams, the midsems, minors and endsems. There can be additional projects and classtests in the 1st year depending on the faculty in charge. And most of the subjects can be easily covered with class notes and rest can be prepaeed from youtube. Subjects like Electronics and Mechanics are hard to score and pass.
