Which one should I take, NIT Silchar mechanical or IIIT Guwahati for CSE?

IIIT Guwahati is a relatively new institute so its placement might not be at par with NITSilchar. In that case, I would advise you to follow your heart. But if you think not opting for CSE is a bad decision, just ask yourself why you would consider CSE. Is it because you did some coding in your school days and wish to enter into that field, or simply because CSE is popular. Don’t be in the illusion of liking a branch just because everyone is recommending it. Also, don’t go for any branch solely because it has better placements than the other. As long as you enjoy a particular field, you will get good offers. Mechanical is a good branch at NIT Silchar. Moreover, as research has become increasingly interdisciplinary in nature, various departments collaborate with one another these days. Even Mechanical has a good involvement of CSE- Robotics, CFD, etc. all involve high level coding and the knowledge of Data Structures. Because today most campuses witness IT placements more than core profiles, I would highly recommend you consult the alumni of Mechanical to figure out what placements are like in ground reality. Having some friends studying in these institutes, I can say that as per what they mentioned, NIT Patna arrives with a better placement rate than the other two counterparts. These include major firms like Alston transport, L&T HED, L&T Constructions, Thermal, Havells, TATA Motors and many others. Other than these few, various other students secure placement offers in companies belonging to the IT sector and the Consultancy services. Great college with decent infrastructure and a large campus

Fees and Financial Aid:

The tuition fees here will be varying according to the category and family income of the candidate. SC/ST students receive a hundred percent tuition fee waiver irrespective of their family income. If you belong to a different category, you will be paying the tuition fees according to your family income. If your family income is below 1 lakh per annum, you will be receiving a hundred percent tuition fee waiver but if your family income falls anywhere between 1 lakh and 1 rupee to 5 lakh per annum, you will be receiving a two third tution fee waiver which means that you will be paying only one third of the tuition fee which is my case too but if your family income is greater than 5 lakhs per annum, then you will need to pay 100% tuition fee and no waivers will be applicable for you. Irrespective of your category or family income, other fees which include the hostel fee, library fee, mess fee, etc. need to be paid and no waivers are provided. Scholarships are provided once you get admitted to your respective course. Few scholarship providers include NSP, Reliance, SBI, etc. The criterias for every scholarship is different which generally prefer on the basis of your category and family income. During the course completion, students at the institute pay an annual fees of 96000 and tution fees of 62000, which is taken in two parts, half each semester. However the tution fees for SC, ST and PWD canditates are waived. For the registration process a sum of 5000 has to be paid during the JOSSA councelling. The fees breakup of a semester include a mandatory 11000 sum, which includes all the necessary bills, from light to water and medical insurance, medicines, sports fees, exam fees, lab charges, student union fees, cleaning and other as oer the required breakup. Over the four year period, various scolarship opportunities are provided. In the 1st year itself numerous merit-based scolarships are provided on behalf of college and government, comprising it is an Institute of National Importance. For SC, ST, PWD students, only the minimum mess and hostel bills and students are also given fee relaxation based on parental income.

I am loving it! I love meeting more and more people.

I am paying my college a year wise fees of ?67,000 after availing zero tuition fee under SC category. ?22,500 is hostel and mess fee, same for all. In the first semester, the fees are a bit higher, approx ?1.2 lakh for general category and around ?60, 000 for others as some refundable security deposits are taken as well as the counselling fees by JoSAA. From the second semester onwards, general category students pay around ?1 laks, those who have family income above ?5 lakhs, and there is 33% tution fee waiver for family income between ?1 to ?5 lakhs and zero tuition fees for family income under ?1 lakhs. ?22,500 for mess and board of hostel management is same for all, although it is subject to some degree of change yearly. Scholarships are available by public and private sectors both. I didn't apply for them as I thought I wouldn't get it. My friends also applied but not everyone are eligible for it, and as of Januray 2025, no money has yet been given to them, applications are still under process. Money usually comes around April each year. I have opted for education loan from SBI which would be present at the timne of admission each year and the quicker you apply, the quicker you get your documents, the quicker would be the process.

The college fees depends on many things like If u are from sc or st category then full tution fee waiver will be there but for other category the fee is waived off by slab criteria which very convincing and convenient.

At the time of admission i had to pay total 128000. I gave 80000 during jossa counselling and 25000 fas caution money for hosfel and instituttion , this 25500 include 5000 for counseling fees and 22500 mesh fees . This is for the first semester . Now , for the 1st semester tuition fees is 62500 , and other fees include for gymkhana, exam , electricity, medical,TV , which count for 11000 So for 1st semester my i total paid 128000 And for the 2nd semester, i have to pay 95000

Paper checking is very strict and the academics is very hectic

The total fees is 80370. out of which tuition fee is 62500 per semester with 5370 as other charges. A one time fees of 7500 is also there.For Sc ST the tution fees is waived off.For OBC full waiver below 1 lakh and 1/3 waiver between 1 to 5 lakh.Various scholarships are availaible such as Reliance, Medhaavi, NSP
