The GATE 2025 cutoff for NIT Silchar for M.Tech admission ranges from a score of 602 to 351 for the General category. I did not apply to this college directly. I got admission through JoSAA counselling based on my JEE Main rank. During the counselling process, I filled my choices carefully, and this college was among my preferred options. I chose this college mainly because of its good campus infrastructure, strong NIRF ranking, and consistent placement records. Compared to other colleges available at my rank, this institute offered a better balance of academics, facilities, and career opportunities. The faculty quality, alumni network, and overall academic environment were also important factors in my decision. I had applied for other colleges through the same JoSAA counselling process, but either the cut-off was higher for my preferred branches or the colleges did not match my expectations in terms of campus life and placements. Likes

Some professors of some departments are friendly and very knowledgeable.They inspire students for engaging in different academic research programs and m n academic programs also .
Students are from all over the india so there are diversity of students.This gives the opportunity of engaging each culture ,food and rituals all over the country.
This college have some student clubs and student manages all the events taking funds and sometimes there own money this inspires freshers to being active skill improvement.

Dislikes

Mostly professors are not friendly and outgoing minded.They only judge students their character, nature and basis of this they give them score in exams and humiliate them in classrooms.
Specifically in Mechanical engineering department their Hod and some other professor treat students as some ordinary objects, they don't care about their career instead they try to give backlogs repeatedly to pull the degree for more than 4 years.
Laboratories are not efficient and advanced we have to use very old and mostly inaccurate equipments and perform our experiments.

Admission:

In jee mains examination I got 92 percentile and my obc rank was 22000 and my general rank was around 60000 . So I was not able to get selected in other better NITs for my BTech course . As top colleges requires top 1 percent students of jee mains and in jee advanced my score was not good to get any IITs so as I my home state is Assam and for home State quota and female students NIT Silchar have quota so I easily got Electronics and Communication Engineering branch in this college. I applied for NIT Trichy ,NIT karnataka and NIT Durgapur also and also applied for IIIT s but didn't get any of them . In my college NIT Silchar ,the admission process completes by jossa and CSAB . After jee mains result students who got qualified are eligible to participate in Jossa counselling and then according to each years score jossa does the process of giving the selected branch and college among the choices students registered. If students are not getting college by jossa then they can participate in CSAB and through CSAB they got selected colleges of eligible .

NIT Silchar Review: Campus, Career and Career Prospects

The aspect of my college that is appreciated that is their maintenance for garden, ground, classroom and library.
The placement cell of my college is very strong and it give fair chance to every students so that they will take job from campus.
Social interaction is very good in my college due to many clubs and societies so they improve students personal growth.

Dislikes

I dislike the thing that some of the professor come into the class and just read the pdf don't understand us. So we give more time in hostel for studying again those things through YouTube or books.
The boys girls ratio is not good in my college and competition for taking girl is very tough especially in my branch i.e, in civil.
One more thing that is sometimes the slow process of college administration for doing the job. They just procrastinate the work.

Admission:

I get this college after qualifying jee mains exam through josaa counselling. I want NIT Durgapur but I miss out by only 1500 rank . Before NIT Silchar I get NIT patna civil engineering in first round of counselling but due to better placement stat and campus I choose this one . My admission process is very smooth where the help desk counter and senior help new comer. On my admission day I also get my scholarship id i.e, roll no. One think that is more frustrating on that day is that for hostel allocation, server was working and I get my hostel room no at 7 pm which is after 7 hours of my admission.

Great college with decent infrastructure and a large campus

Likes

The campus is the best part. It is around 700 acres which makes it a small city in its own. It includes lakes, parks, food shops, football ground with flood lights, cricket ground, volleyball court, gym, indoor badminton court and much more.
Freshers here are entertained frequently with orientations, workshops, movie nights, garba nights, etc.
The institute has many different clubs and societies which help you in learning different skills.

Dislikes

The gym here is not well maintained. It lacks basic maintenance as many of the equipments are still broken.
The classes are also not well equipped. However, many of the classrooms include smart boards and decent infrastructure but they are generally used for CSE and EC branches.
The airport is quite far from the campus as it will take around 3 hours for you to reach the airport.

Admission:

I chose this college mainly due to its large campus and facilites and decent placements. This college has a great alumni network and has the best clubs and societies among top colleges and also organises one of the best fests. I could have got a better college but my rank didn't allow me to secure admission into the top ones. Our college only accepts JEE Mains score as the admission criteria. The cutoffs for my college vary according to the preferred branch and category of the student with their state of residence.

it has all facilites of sports , a big football and cricket ground is also present in the campus along with that there is a sports complex and gym too
it has a big campus of 540 acre ,where you can hang out with your friends and explore be tter
it has a good placement records which is far better than other tier 3 and 4 colleges

Dislikes

it is in remote area so to buy hostel essential is kinda difficult and outside town is costly

i really loved the playgrounds as these are huge alos the inter branch completition which is held every year is very exciting
The boys and girls ratio is a little bit disapionting as there are more boys than girls so its a little bit problem for those who are planning to get a girlfriend at campus

Dislikes

I dont like the 8 to 5 class which is very much boring for all of us but ya we always enjoy as the teacher are very cooperative
There is no swimming pool in the campus but we have many lakes here which gives us a very mesmerising view
One more thing that i dont like is that the mechanical workshop ehich is very much annoying

Admission:

I chose nit silchar because it is one of the best colleges in the whole of India. the average placement is 13 lpa, which is very satisfying. Also, the big green campus is the reason why I chose nit silchar. There are 22 lakes on the whole of the campus also the weather on the campus is very satisfying. it is located in assam, which is itself a beautiful state

I liked the pleasant environment here with more trees
More trees and ponds in the campus with campus area 650 acres
Supportive staff and seniors help in the studies

Dislikes

Hostel maintainance is poor as they are some times dirty
Bathrooms are some times not cleaned often
Classes are small and in summer very hot too

Admission:

I choosed this institute over the other as it is top Nit and it's Nirf ranking is high comparing with the other colleges I will get in josaa counselling remaining college that would I get are some what low in Nirf ranking and average package comparatively this college

Nit Silchar the beautiful college to visit

Likes

The campus is really good and it is very big. Seniors are really helpful.
Well connected to outside as Train station and airport is very near.
Professors are highly qualified and highly expert in their respective fields.

Dislikes

The food is average in the hostel mainly 1st year hostel.
There is lot of network issue and mainly we depend on the LAN connection.
Some classroom are very old and need to upgrade.

Admission:

I choose this college because I am interested in electronics or circuital branch . I applied in other colleges but I was not getting electronics branch so I preferred this as best choice. One of the main reason for choosing this course is that I got to know from some of my known seniors who is final year student of this college and they also suggest me to take this course. The admission process for Btech is mainly through Jee mains examination. The cutoff is depends upon the category of the student.

The natural environment outside. With lots of trees and natural beauty around it gives a soothing study environment
The academic environment is great with balanced fests and exams schedules and time for self introspection and developing skills
Various clubs designed and students can join as per their interest

Dislikes

Class timings. The class duration is from Monday to Friday, morning 8 to 5 in the evening. And waking up at 8 on a coldy weather is not pleasable.
Too much orientation from clubs lined up all together.

I chose this college as NIT Silchar is an allrounder package, you want academics? Done! Fest? Done!! Every wing is awesome. From the very first being in my home state, it was the best college I can opt for after IIT Guwahati. I did got offers from other colleges government and semi, but NITS gave me my favourite branch and secured future. This college has a great placement records in PSUs for core branches and great IT sector companies for other branches. Courae is ergonomically designed to withstand the students potential and push up to next limits. The eligibility criteria is pretty simple, just fetch a good score in JEE Mains and lo you have your favourite branch in this amazing college.
