NIT Silchar Scholarship 2024: Fees & Facilities
A variety of scholarships are available at NIT Silchar for the students enrolled across different programs offered by the institute. Besides the Scholarship offered by the institute, the students can also avail the facility of the national-level scholarship provided by MHRD based on the merit cum means. Some of the popular scholarship schemes of NIT Silchar are mentioned below.
Swami Dayanand Education Foundation Scholarship:
- The Swami Dayanand Education Foundation Scholarships are offered to students whose annual family income is less than INR 6 lakhs.
- About 30% of the scholarships under this scheme are reserved for women candidates and the students are granted a scholarship award ranging from INR 15,000 to INR 50,000 under this scholarship scheme depending on different caste categories.
Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Chinese Government Scholarship:
- The MHRD Chinese Government Scholarship Schemes are offered to the students of NIT Silchar on the basis of merits as per the guidelines of the Chinese Government.
- However, the students receive the basic scholarship benefits and exact awards are yet to be released by the authority only.
NIT Silchar Research Fellowships:
- The Research Fellowships are offered to the students pursuing postgraduate programs in research or Ph.D. degrees at NIT Silchar sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
- The senior research fellow gets a fellowship or INR 28,000 while the junior research fellow gets INR 25,000 under this Research Fellowship Scheme.
Scholarship for ST Students:
- The Scholarship is offered by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs of the Government of India to the needy and meritorious students of ST categories.
- Students are granted INR 45,000 for the purchasing of laptops, computers, books, or any other academic accessories.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:
The total fees is 80370. out of which tuition fee is 62500 per semester with 5370 as other charges. A one time fees of 7500 is also there.For Sc ST the tution fees is waived off.For OBC full waiver below 1 lakh and 1/3 waiver between 1 to 5 lakh.Various scholarships are availaible such as Reliance, Medhaavi, NSP

- The college has a huge lush green campus of 650 acres with plenty of sports facilities a basketball court , football field ,Tennis court, Basketball court , Indoor stadium Kho kho and Kabaddi field and a Student activity Center
- The professors are highly qualified with some being in the list oh world's top 2% scientist in the world.
Dislikes
- The Time Schedule might turn out quite hectic at times at time classes starting from 8 am in the morning to 5 PM in the evening
- Though teachers are highly qualified not all are good at teaching and some are at times even too strict

- Sports facilities are very good like very big cricket and football ground with lightning facilities and indoor complex for indoor games like badminton table tennis etc
- Campus area is 660 acres and there is greenery all around the campus
Dislikes
- Weather conditions are not quite good there is rain at any time
- Vegetarians face a little bit problems in nit cafe and shops
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:
In Nit Silchar tution fee for candidates with family income more than 8 lacs is 2 lacs per annum and with family income 5-8 lacs is 2/3 rd of total fees and candidates with family income 1-5 lacs is 1/3 rd of total fees and no fees for candidates with family income less than 1 lacs

- Campus has good maintained a cricket ground and a football ground with flood lights
- Good boys and girls ratio ,it is something around 1:5
Dislikes
- Weather of Silchar is not predictable it is very uncertain
- Infrastructure can be improved by administrator
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:
Fees is according to students financial status if any general or obc category students have family income less than 100000 then there is full tution fee concession only mess fees and some other fees will be charged. And sc/st students charged no any fees. I paid 90k for this year including mess and hostel fees

- The greenery of the campus is quite good.
- There are various sports facilities available in the campus.
Dislikes
- The ratio of boys and girls is 4:1 which is not good for social interaction.
- The classes are there from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. those we have very less time for self study.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:
At first, we had to pay SAF and PAF in josaa website. SAF was 35,000 rupees and PAF was 45,000 rupees. The money, we had paid through josaa was taken as college fees for first semester. Then we had to pay the hostel fees for first semester and it was 22,500 rupees. My annual income is in between 1 to 5 lakhs. That's why I have to pay total (excluding the hostel fees) 58,833 rupees. The tution fee is 20,833. Total caution fees is 20,000 rupees. Admission fees is 1000 rupees. There are more components like development fees( 3000 rupees), corpus fee( 1000 rupees), student aided Fund( 1000 rupees) etc. For sc/st students, tution fee is zero and they have to pay total (excluding hostel fees) of 38,000 rupees for first semester. Students can apply for government as well as private scholarships like NSP, Reliance foundation, Bhartiya Airtel foundation etc.

- The College is overall beautiful, Campus life is good , lots of society for improvement, it’s very greenery here
- Infrastructure is quite good , have Asias biggest digital library which look super cool, super Sport facility
Dislikes
- Girl:boy =1:4 which is not good for social interaction
- Internet connection in hostel is very poor, although LAN connection is available but still not fast
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:
1- I'm a OBC category student family income below 1 lakh. So for a year I hardly pay around 1 lakh( including hostel fees) 2- I don't have to pay tuition fee, cautions money is around 10100/- per semister, regarding registration fee- SAF-35000/-, PAF-45000/-, After JOSAA counselling its cost me around 35000 +45000+22500 = 102500/- 3- One of my friend from the same caste OBC but family income above 5 lakh rupees, have to pay additional 25500/- along with 102500/-. So he have to pay around 128000 4- for OBC we have PM Yashasvi scholarship and We can apply for other private scholarship also like ONGC, reliance foundation etc.

- The college campus has a lot of greenery and its just absolutely beautiful.
- The extra curricular activities in the institute provide a massive opportunity for students to explore different clubs and develop their personality along with the academics.
Dislikes
- The quality of hostel facilities needs to be improved.
- The mess food has been a great upset for most of the students.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:
I have got admission in the institute around a month ago.I had to pay ?17500(seat acceptance fee),?20000(partial admission fee) and ?22500(hostel fees) as per my category.The yearly fees would be approximately ?70000.As far as my friends from the general category are concerned, they will have to pay almost ?130,000 yearly. Nowadays there are various scholarships for students from the government organizations such as the various schemes available in nsp. As well as the private foundations like reliance foundation etc.

- Professors are mostly helpful , except some
Dislikes
- Campus is in a very Remote area . Communication is worst
- LAN is hostel is worse and you don't even get access to internet in most of the hostels

The total fee for the B.Tech program at NIT Silchar is approximately 5.54 lakhs INR . - Firstly the campus is very big, thus makes one feel good for the amount of space it has, and is filled with greenery.
- The sports facility is great, it has all kinds of sports like cricket, basketball, football, badminton, table tennis, etc
Dislikes
- Infrastructure of the college is very old, as it is an old college of 1960-70s, so that development can be made by the authorities
- Thought it has a lot of greenery, but the place is very harsh in regards to climate, its very hot in summers, with high humidity
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:
The tuition fees per semester is 71000 with the course having 8 semester, and on yearly basis it is round 1.4 lacs. Its not increasing yearly. No scholarship is provided by thr college. However for SC, ST and EWS category, there is no tuition fees. They only pay the hostel fees of 20000 per semester, thus totally paying 40000 per year to hostel.
