NTA has released the advisory and Instructions for the Candidates of the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 (January 2026) at jeemain.nta.nic.in.

These rules include arrival timing, documents to carry, items not allowed, dress code norms, and behaviour to be maintained inside the exam centre.

  • To access the exam centre, the applicants need to carry the admit card.
  • You need a signed copy of the self-declaration of JEE Main 2026, and
  • You should arrive before the time stated in the admit card that is 2 hours prior to the exam.
  • Your identity will be verified through fingerprint and facial recognition. So, the personal details on the admit card and ID Proof should match.

What are the Documents Required for the JEE Main 2026 Exam Centre?

In the NTA JEE Main Information Bulletin 2026, you are requested to submit the important papers on the day of the examination to the invigilator. Without it, candidates will not gain access to the examination hall. The following are the documents:

1. JEE Main Admit Card 2026

  • JEE Main admit card 2026 (it is a signed self-declaration form printed).
  • This acts as an entry ticket to the examination centre and hall
  • It is possible to download it from the website of NTA (nta.ac.in) or in the site of JEE Main (jeemain.nta.nic.in).
  • It aids in verifying the candidate's details and grants the candidate permission to take the national-level examination.
  • The admit card should be printed in A4 size paper with a clear printout.
  • NTA will also issue the admit card of the JEE Main exam 3-4 days before the examination (probably a week prior and around 17-18 January, 2026).

Important Details on Admit Card:

  • Allotted exam centre with full address
  • Date of examination, time of shift, time of reporting.
  • Name, roll number and registration number of the candidate.
  • Paper name, name of father, date of birth, gender
  • Category and state of eligibility

2. Self Declaration/Undertaking Form

The JEE Main Self Declaration form is attached to the admit card. It consists of details about the health status and travel history of the candidates.

Key Details in the Form:

  • Report on whether in the last 14 days there was any experience of the following: cough, fever, breathlessness, runny nose, sore throat or body ache.
  • Information about any contact with a Covid-positive person in the 14 days.
  • Past 14 days' travel history
  • Left-hand thumb impression in the designated space

Action Required:

  • Candidates must duly fill and sign the self-declaration form of JEE Main 2026
  • Paste a passport-sized photograph on the form
  • Put the left-hand thumb impression clearly (should not smudge)
  • Carry it along with the admit card on exam day

3. Passport Size Photograph

  • One passport-size photograph must be carried (extra copy)
  • The photo should be the same as the one uploaded on the JEE Main Online Application Form
  • Size: 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm
  • This photo will be pasted on the attendance sheet at the centre during the exam
  • Ensure that the picture is not outdated, and it displays your face.

Ques. Will rough worksheets be provided during the exam?

Ans. Yes, all calculations/writing work is to be done only in the Rough Sheet provided at the Test Centre in the Examination Room/Hall, and on the completion of the test, candidates must hand over the Rough Sheets to the Invigilator on duty in the Room/Hall.

4. Authorised Photo IDs (Government-Issued)

One of the available government-authorised photo identities should be carried:

  • Aadhaar Card (with photo)- NTA Prefers.
  • PAN Card
  • Driving License
  • Voter ID
  • Passport
  • E-Aadhaar
  • Ration Card
  • Aadhaar Enrollment Number (with photo)

Important Notes:

  • IDs must be original, valid, and non-expired
  • ID Cards issued by Schools/Colleges/Universities/Coaching Centres are NOT accepted
  • Aadhaar enrollment receipt without an Aadhaar Number is NOT accepted
  • Photocopies or images stored in mobile phones will NOT be accepted
  • The photo ID helps verify your identity at the exam centre

5. PwD Certificate (If Applicable)

  • Applicants, under the category of the PwD (Persons with Disabilities), who desire relaxation under the same, should provide a certificate.
  • The certificate must be issued by the Competent Authority
  • Required for candidates who have availedof scribe assistance or other facilities

6. Category Certificate (For Reserved Categories)

  • Candidates under the reserved category or SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS are required to carry the category certificate.
  • The competent authority should issue the certificate.
  • Should follow the advised format and take the necessary information, which includes:
    • Caste
    • Sub-caste
    • Date of issue
    • Competent authority's signature and seal
  • Failure to provide a valid category certificate may result in the candidate being treated as a general category candidate

7. Transparent Ballpoint Pen

  • A transparent ballpoint pen (blue or black ink) is mandatory
  • Ensure the pen is in working condition
  • Other colored pens are generally not allowed
  • Pencils and any other colored pens are typically prohibited by exam authorities
  • A pen will be used for signing the attendance sheet

8. Transparent Water Bottle and Hand Sanitiser

  • A transparent water bottle is allowed (preferably label-free)
  • The water bottle should not have any labels or markings to comply with exam regulations
  • Personal hand sanitiser (50 ml) within the prescribed size limit is recommended
  • These items contribute to a comfortable and hygienic exam environment
  • Ensure bottles are completely transparent with no branding

9. Special Provisions for Diabetic Candidates

NTA has allowed certain items for diabetic candidates:

  • Sugar tablets
  • Fruits (like bananas/apples/oranges)
  • Transparent water bottles

Not Allowed:

  • Packed foods like chocolate/candy/sandwiches
  • Any food item in packaged/sealed form

Ques: What will I do if I forget to bring my admit card?

Ans: You will not enter the examination hall without the admit card at any cost. NTA does not publish duplicate admit cards within the exam center. The rule is to always get several copies on download and print.

Ques: Can I carry a soft copy of my admit card on my phone?

Ans: No, you have to bring a printed hard copy using A4-size paper with the admit card. Cellular devices are banned.

Ques: Is the Aadhaar Card mandatory, or can I use other photo IDs?

Ans: Apart from the Aadhaar Card, you can use the following: PAN Card, Passport, Voter ID, Driving License, Ration Card.

Ques: What if my photo on the admit card doesn't match my current appearance?

Ans: In case of any major mismatch, call the NTA helpline. It is 011-40759000 or jeemain@nta.ac.in. Nonetheless, you are expected to present the downloaded admit card.

Ques: Do I need to carry original documents for category/PwD certificates?

Ans: Yes, you have to bring the original certificates and the admit card. During verification alone, photocopies may not be accepted.

Ques: Can I use a colored pen instead of black/blue?

Ans: No, it is not permissible; one can use only blue or black ballpoint pens. Make sure that it is clear and is functioning well.

Ques: What size should the passport photograph be?

Ans: (3.5 x 4.5) cm. Should be the same photo as what was uploaded during the registration period.
