What is JEE Main 2025 Choice Filling and How Does it Work?

Completing the JEE Main 2025 choice filling is an important step in JoSAA's counseling process where applicants select and prioritize their preferred institute. JEE Main 2025 seat allocation will be based on these preferences.

This process ensures that applicants have the opportunity to change their preferences according to their ranking preferences. Here's how it works:

  • Registration: Students register on the JoSAA portal using their JEE Main login credentials to begin the process.
  • Preferred Selection: Students list the institutions and courses they are interested in in order of their preference.
  • Flexibility: Options can be changed and saved multiple times until the final lock.
  • Final Lock: Once the applicant is satisfied. He or she will lock his or her settings. This will summarize the results of the seat allocation round.
  • Impact: The choice along with JEE main level, rank, and seat availability will determine seat allocation.

“Candidates should make sure to lock their choices before the deadline to avoid losing their preferences and they can modify their choices any time during the filling period before the final locking process”

What to do after JEE Main Seat Allotment Results

After the announcement of the JEE main seat allocation results, candidates have several options to decide how they want to proceed with their allotted seats. These options include Freeze, Float, Slide, and Withdraw, each with a different priority and goal. Here is an explanation of these options:

Option Purpose Action Taken Eligibility for Further Rounds
Freeze Confirm the allotted seat; no further participation in counseling. The candidate accepts the seat and finalizes admission. Not Eligible
Float Retain the allotted seat while seeking a better option in higher-preference institutes/courses. The candidate accepts the current seat but keeps it open for upgrades in future rounds. Eligible
Slide Retain the allotted seat but look for an upgraded branch/course within the same institute. The candidate accepts the seat and opts for upgrades within the same institution. Eligible
Withdraw Opt out of the seat allotment process and cancel the admission. The candidate reports to the allotted institute to withdraw and apply for a refund of the acceptance fee. Not Applicable

JEE Main Seat Allotment 2025 Spot Counseling

Spot counseling is conducted to fill the vacant seats left after all regular rounds of JoSAA or CSAB counseling. It gives an additional opportunity to candidates who have missed earlier rounds or want to upgrade their current seat. Eligible candidates have to register, pay a participation fee, and select their preferences. Seats are allotted based on merit, preferences, and availability. However, participation does not guarantee a seat, and candidates must meet all eligibility criteria and provide the required documents during the process.

Expected Vacant Seats in Spot Counseling Round 2025:

Institute Type Expected Vacant Seats
IITs 1,200
NITs 3,500
IIITs 1,200
GFTIs 1,500
