What is AME CET 2026?

AME CET stands for Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Common Entrance Test. It is a national-level entrance exam conducted by UDAI AVIATION Private Limited to provide admission to aviation courses at colleges approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Ministry of Civil Aviation, AICTE, and UGC. The exam serves as a single gateway for students who want to build a career in the aviation sector — one exam, one rank, multiple course options at recognised institutes across India.

AME CET 2026 is conducted in three phases within the same year. Phase I ran from September 2025 through the May 2026 exam, with counselling completed in the last week of May 2026. Phase II exam was held in the second week of June 2026, results were declared in the third week of June 2026, and Phase II counselling is now underway in the last week of June 2026. Phase III registration is open from June 1 to June 30, 2026, with the exam scheduled for the second week of July 2026. Each phase is an independent admission cycle with its own exam, result, and counselling round — but all three phases admit students for the same 2026–27 academic year.

The most popular course accessed through AME CET is the DGCA AME licence program — a 2-year technical training that qualifies students to inspect, maintain, and certify aircraft for airworthiness under Indian aviation law. After completing the program and accumulating the required practical experience, graduates can apply for DGCA AME licences under Category B-1.1 (turbine aircraft airframe and engines), B-2 (avionics), or B-3 (non-type rated piston engine aircraft). No airline can legally operate in India without licensed AMEs on staff — making this one of the most secure career paths in aviation.

Beyond AME, the exam also gives you access to B.Tech Aeronautical Engineering, B.Tech Aerospace Engineering, BBA in Aviation Management, B.Sc. Aviation, diploma programs, and short-term certification courses in cabin crew, airport management, and ground staff operations. Colleges accepting AME CET scores are inspected by DGCA, ensuring that training standards align with international aviation regulations.

  • Licence Courses: AME-DGCA (B-1.1 / B-2 / B-3), AME-EASA, Pilot Ground Training
  • Engineering Courses: B.Tech Aeronautical Engineering, B.Tech Aerospace Engineering
  • Graduation Courses: BBA in Aviation, B.Sc. Aeronautical, B.Sc. AME, B.Sc. Aviation
  • Diploma Courses: Diploma in AME, Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering
  • Certification Courses: Cabin Crew, Air Hostess, Airport Management, Ground Staff

AME CET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

AME CET 2026 eligibility varies by the type of course you want to pursue. There are three paper types — each designed for a different educational background. Check the criteria carefully before applying for Phase III (registration closes June 30, 2026).

Age Limit

  • You must be between 14 and 28 years of age at the time of admission.
  • There is no upper age restriction for appearing in the entrance exam itself — but you must be within the 28-year limit when you actually take admission at the college.
  • The lower limit of 14 allows students who have just finished Class 10 to apply for shorter certification programs.

Number of Attempts

  • You are allowed a maximum of 3 attempts across all phases and years of AME CET.
  • Each phase appearance counts as one attempt. Since AME CET is conducted in multiple phases every year, plan your attempts carefully — appearing in all three 2026 phases exhausts all three permitted attempts.

Minimum Marks

  • A minimum of 45% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination is required for all course categories.
  • Candidates appearing in their final qualifying exam in 2026 can apply provisionally — admission is confirmed only after submission of the actual passing certificate.

Educational Qualification by Course and Paper Type

Paper Type Courses Minimum Qualification Min. Marks
Paper Type 1 AME-DGCA Licence, B.Sc. AME, Aeronautical / Aerospace Engineering (Degree & Diploma) Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM) 45%
Paper Type 2 Higher technical AME, Advanced Engineering programs Diploma in Engineering or B.Tech / B.E. in any discipline 45%
Paper Type 3 BBA Aviation, B.Sc. Aviation, Cabin Crew, Airport Management, Ground Staff Certifications Class 12 (any stream) or Class 10 pass (for short certifications) 45%

Other Conditions

  • Candidates with colour blindness may be restricted from AME-DGCA and pilot courses, as DGCA medical standards exclude colour-blind candidates from aviation roles requiring accurate colour identification.
  • No domicile or state restriction — AME CET is open to all Indian nationals regardless of state of residence.
  • No gender restriction — male and female candidates are both eligible, with a reduced application fee for female applicants.

Class 12 students who appeared in their 2026 board exams can apply provisionally for Phase III. Provisional admissions are cancelled if the student fails to meet the 45% minimum in the final board result.

  • Paper type attempted (1, 2, or 3)
  • Total marks scored out of 360
  • All India Rank (AIR)
  • Subject-wise marks breakdown
  • Qualifying status — Qualified / Not Qualified
  • Scholarship slab eligibility based on rank
  • Instructions for participating in the counselling round

Ranks from Phase I and Phase II are valid separately for their respective counselling rounds only. A Phase II rank cannot be used in Phase III counselling, and vice versa. If you appeared in more than one phase, you must participate in each phase’s counselling independently using that phase’s rank card.

AME CET 2026 Cutoff: What is a Good Score?

The AME CET qualifying cutoff is the minimum marks required for your result to show “Qualified” and for you to become eligible for counselling. AME CET is not an elimination-focused exam like JEE Main — the qualifying bar is moderate, and the focus is on ranking candidates for seat allotment. Based on previous year patterns, the qualifying threshold is around 100–110 marks out of 360.

AME CET 2026 Score Range and Interpretation

Score Range (out of 360) Interpretation
100–110 marks Qualifying range — clears the cutoff and becomes eligible for counselling
110–180 marks Good score — eligible for admission to recognised AME and aviation institutes
180–250 marks Very good score — access to top AME institutes; scholarship consideration begins
250+ marks Excellent score — merit scholarship eligible; priority in college and course selection

Expected Category-wise Cutoff (Indicative, Based on Previous Year Trends)

Category Expected Qualifying Cutoff (out of 360)
General / OBC 100–110
SC / ST 90–100
Female (All Categories) 90–105

To score between 110 and 180, you need roughly 28–45 correct answers out of 90, assuming no wrong answers. With −1 negative marking, focus on accuracy. Even 30–35 correct answers (with no wrongs) gives you 120–140 marks — comfortably within the good score range.

Keep in mind that the admission cutoff at individual colleges — especially at popular institutes in Delhi/NCR, Ahmedabad, and Pune — is typically higher than the qualifying cutoff. Higher-ranked candidates get first choice of college and course during counselling. For merit scholarships (Rank 1–5,000), aim for 180 marks or above.

AME CET 2026 Counselling Process

AME CET 2026 Phase II counselling is underway this week (last week of June 2026). Candidates who qualified in Phase II — whose results were declared in the third week of June 2026 — should log in to amecet.in immediately to complete their counselling registration and fill college-course preferences. Phase I counselling concluded in the last week of May 2026. Phase III counselling is expected in the last week of July 2026, after Phase III results are declared.

Phase II counselling is ongoing right now. If you qualified in AME CET 2026 Phase II, visit amecet.in today to register for counselling. Missing the window means losing your Phase II seat — you would then need to wait for Phase III counselling in the last week of July 2026.

Phase-wise Counselling Schedule

Phase Counselling Date Status
Phase II Last week of June 2026 Ongoing
Phase III Last week of July 2026 Upcoming

Phase II and Phase III Scholarship

All candidates who qualify AME CET 2026 Phase II or Phase III are eligible for a flat 10% scholarship on the first-semester tuition fee, with a maximum scholarship value of ₹20,000. This amount is deducted at the time of fee payment to the allotted college during counselling. Phase II qualified candidates participating in the ongoing counselling will benefit from this scholarship at admission.

The scholarship applies to first-semester tuition fees only and is available solely at participating institutes enrolled with AME CET. It does not cover hostel, examination, or miscellaneous fees. Verify scholarship terms at the time of college admission.

Aviation programs typically cost ₹3–6 lakhs for the full course. A merit scholarship of ₹1–2 lakhs on the first semester provides meaningful financial relief. If you secure a rank within the top 1,000 in Phase I, the savings range from ₹30,000 to ₹2,00,000 on your first semester alone.

AME CET 2026 Preparation Tips

With Phase III exam expected in the second week of July 2026 and registration closing on June 30, candidates preparing for Phase III have roughly three to four weeks from now. These strategies will help you score well and improve your All India Rank.

Know Your Paper Type and Prioritise Accordingly

If you are a PCM student (Paper Type 1), Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics carry 240 out of 360 marks — 67% of the total paper. Dominate these three subjects and you secure a strong rank. For Paper Type 3 (non-PCM), General Awareness and English each carry 120 marks — prepare both equally and build your reasoning skills for the remaining 120 marks.

Use NCERT Books as Your Base (Paper Type 1)

AME CET Paper Type 1 closely follows the CBSE/NCERT Class 11–12 curriculum. Read every chapter in NCERT Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, understand all solved examples, and complete all exercise questions. More than 80% of AME CET questions are directly based on NCERT concepts — NCERT is non-negotiable for PCM candidates.

Handle Negative Marking Carefully

AME CET has −1 negative marking per wrong answer. Do not guess randomly. Only attempt questions where you are reasonably confident about at least eliminating two wrong options. Skip uncertain questions and return to them only if time permits. An unattempted question costs nothing; a wrong answer costs −1 mark from your total.

General Awareness: Stay Current on Aviation News

The General Awareness section includes questions on the Indian aviation industry, DGCA regulations, new airline routes, airport expansions, and ICAO basics. Follow aviation news regularly alongside standard current affairs. Ten minutes of aviation news daily can meaningfully improve your General Awareness score.

English: Build Vocabulary and Grammar

English carries 60 marks for Paper Type 1 and 120 marks for Paper Type 3. Learning 10 new words daily, revising grammar rules (tenses, articles, prepositions), and practising comprehension passages for 20 minutes per day can add 40–50 marks to your total — making it one of the best returns on study time.

Solve Previous Year Papers and Mock Tests

AME CET previous year papers are available at amecet.in. Solve at least 5 full papers under timed conditions before your Phase III exam. Aim for one to two mock tests per week, analyse your mistakes after each test, and target those specific topics in your revision. The AME CET gives you 90 minutes for 90 questions — one minute per question on average. Practice with a timer to build the right exam-day rhythm.

Consider Phase III If You Need More Time

Phase III registration is open until June 30, 2026, with the exam in the second week of July 2026. If you missed Phase II or want to improve your score and rank, registering for Phase III is a smart option. A rank in the top 200 earns a 25–100% scholarship, which more than offsets a few more weeks of preparation time. However, remember that appearing for both Phase II and Phase III counts as two of your three permitted lifetime attempts.

Ques. What is the eligibility for AME CET 2026?

Ans. For AME-DGCA licence, B.Tech Aeronautical, and B.Tech Aerospace programs (Paper Type 1), you need Class 12 with PCM and at least 45% marks. For BBA Aviation and B.Sc. Aviation (Paper Type 3), Class 12 in any stream with 45% is sufficient. Diploma and B.Tech holders apply under Paper Type 2. Age must be between 14 and 28 years at the time of admission. A maximum of 3 AME CET attempts are allowed in total across all phases and years.

Ques. What is the exam pattern of AME CET 2026?

Ans. AME CET 2026 has 90 MCQs to be completed in 90 minutes for a total of 360 marks. Marking scheme: +4 for correct, −1 for wrong, 0 for unanswered. Paper Type 1 (PCM students) covers Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, and General Awareness. Paper Type 2 (Diploma/B.Tech) covers Technical Aptitude, English, and General Awareness. Paper Type 3 (Non-PCM / Class 10) covers General Awareness, English, and General Intelligence and Reasoning. The exam is available in English and Hindi in both online and offline modes.

Ques. What is a good score in AME CET 2026?

Ans. A qualifying score in AME CET 2026 is approximately 100–110 marks out of 360. A score of 110–180 marks is good for admission to recognised institutes. Ques. What scholarships are available for AME CET 2026 qualified candidates?

Ans. AME CET Phase I offers tiered scholarships from 10% to 100% on the first-semester tuition fee based on All India Rank. Rank 1–5 and board toppers receive 100% (up to ₹2 lakh). Rank 6–15 get 75% (up to ₹1.5 lakh). Rank 16–50 get 50% (up to ₹1 lakh). Rank 51–200 get 25% (up to ₹50,000). Rank 201–1,000 get 20% (up to ₹40,000). Rank 1,001–5,000 get 15% (up to ₹30,000). All other qualified candidates in Phase I, II, and III receive a flat 10% scholarship (up to ₹20,000).

Ques. Is AME CET conducted by the government?

Ans. No, AME CET is not a government exam. It is conducted by UDAI AVIATION Private Limited. However, the colleges accepting AME CET scores are DGCA-approved and recognised by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, AICTE, and UGC. The DGCA AME licence earned after completing the program is issued by the government — making it a government-recognised professional certification that is legally mandatory for aircraft maintenance work in India.

Ques. What career options are available after AME CET 2026?

Ans. After completing an AME program through AME CET and earning a DGCA licence (B-1.1, B-2, or B-3), you can work as a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer with airlines like Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air, or with MRO companies, HAL, DRDO, and AAI. Entry-level AME salary is ₹4–8 LPA for freshers, rising to ₹12–22 LPA at senior levels and ₹18–30 LPA for Certifying Staff and Technical Manager roles.

Ques. How many times can I appear for AME CET?

Ans. You can appear for AME CET a maximum of three times across all phases and years. Since AME CET is held in three phases every year (Phase I in May, Phase II in June, Phase III in July), it is technically possible to exhaust all three attempts within a single year. If you qualify in Phase I or Phase II with a satisfactory rank, there is generally no benefit to using your remaining attempt in Phase III of the same year.

Ques. Can I appear for Phase III even after qualifying in Phase II?

Ans. Yes, you can appear for Phase III even if you qualified in Phase II, provided you have not exhausted your three permitted attempts. However, you must participate in Phase II counselling independently using your Phase II rank. Appearing in Phase III will count as an additional attempt and will give you a separate Phase III rank for Phase III counselling. Evaluate your Phase II rank carefully — if it is already good enough for your target college, using a precious Phase III attempt is usually not worth it.
