Can I Get CSE in NIT with 5000 Rank?
With a rank of 5,000, you may not get CSE in top NITs like NIT Trichy or NIT Warangal, but you could secure CSE in lower-ranked NITs like NIT Patna and NIT Mizoram.
As per JEE Main 2024 cutoff data: For CSE at NIT Patna and NIT Mizoram, the closing ranks range from 4,000-6,000, so a rank of 5,000 is feasible.
Institute | Branch | Rank Range | Marks Range |
---|---|---|---|
NIT Patna | CSE | 4,000-6,000 | 150-180 marks |
NIT Mizoram | CSE | 4,000-6,000 | 150-180 marks |
How Much Rank is Required for NIT CSE?
To secure admission to CSE at top NITs like NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, and NIT Surathkal, you generally need to have a rank under 5,000. For non-CSE branches like Mechanical or Civil Engineering, the rank requirement may be higher but still within a reasonable range of 10,000-20,000 for top NITs.
As per JEE Main 2024 cutoff data:
NIT Trichy: CSE opening rank is 1,196, closing rank is 4,178, so a rank under 5,000 is ideal for CSE.
For Mechanical and Civil engineering, a rank of 10,000-20,000 can be enough in top NITs.
Institute | Branch | Expected Rank Range |
---|---|---|
NIT Trichy | CSE | Under 5,000 |
NIT Warangal | CSE | Under 5,000 |
NIT Suratkal | CSE | Under 5,000 |
Can I get NIT with 80000 rank?
Securing admission to an NIT with an 80,000 rank in JEE Mains is possible, but the chances depend on various factors such as the specific NIT, branch, and category.
An 80,000 rank means achieving 92 to 94 percentile in JEE Main, with an 80,000 rank, securing admission to the top NITs (like NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, NIT Surathkal) in core branches like CSE (Computer Science Engineering) or ECE (Electronics and Communication Engineering) will be very competitive.
However, you may still have a chance at less competitive branches NITs.
Estimated Percentile Range for an 80,000 Rank
Rank | Percentile Range |
---|---|
80,000 Rank | 92 - 94 Percentile |
NITs and Branches can Get with an 80,000 Rank
Civil Engineering: Civil Engineering at various NITs will generally have higher cutoffs, but with an 80,000 rank, you still can get admission in some NITs, especially those in less competitive regions.
Biotechnology, Mechanical, and Electrical: These branches will also be available in various NITs, depending on the demand and number of seats.
Non-core branches: Branches like Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Production Engineering, etc., may have slightly higher cutoff ranks.
NIT | Branch Options | Category |

Can I Get NIT at 5 Lakh Rank?
With a 5 lakh rank, it is unlikely that you will be able to secure admission to CSE or any highly competitive branches in NITs. However, there is still a possibility of getting admission to lower-ranked NITs in less competitive branches like Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
As per JEE Main 2024 cutoff data: NIT Agartala and NIT Mizoram have closing ranks up to 5 lakh for non-CSE branches like Mechanical and Civil Engineering.
Institute | Branch | Expected Rank Range |
---|---|---|
NIT Agartala | Any branch | 4,00,000-5,00,000 rank |
NIT Mizoram | Any branch | 4,00,000-5,00,000 rank |
Get Top NIT Colleges at Low JEE Rank
While top NITs usually require a higher rank for CSE, you can still secure admission to non-CSE branches like Mechanical and Civil Engineering in these institutes with a rank between 10,000 and 20,000.
As per JEE Main 2024 cutoff data: For Mechanical and Civil Engineering at NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, and NIT Surat, a rank between 10,000 and 20,000 is typically required.
