JEE Main 2025 Counselling for Different Universities

JEE Main 2025 counselling is conducted by various authorities based on the institution type. JoSAA takes care of admissions in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, whereas state-level and private universities conduct counselling on their own based on JEE Main ranks.

The counselling process for various universities and institutions is given below in the table:

Institution Type Counselling Authority Admission Process
NITs, IIITs, GFTIs JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) Centralized counselling based on JEE Main ranks
IITs JoSAA (via JEE Advanced) Qualification Required for JEE Advanced
State Engineering Colleges (e.g., Maharashtra, UP, MP, Haryana, Punjab, etc.) Respective State Authorities (e.g., MHT CET, UPSEE Counselling) State-specific counselling; JEE Main scores accepted for some seats

Deemed Universities (e.g., DTU, NSUT, IIIT Delhi) JAC Delhi, JAC Chandigarh Separate counselling for institutes in Delhi & Chandigarh

What is the date of JEE Mains counselling?

The JEE Main Counselling 2025, managed by JoSAA, officially started on June 3, 2025, right after the JEE Advanced results were declared.

  • This national counselling process runs through six main rounds to allocate seats in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, with about 55,000 seats available across 127 top institutes in India.
  • Students could register and fill out choices until June 12, with two mock allotments on June 9 and June 11 to help them adjust their preferences.
  • The actual seat allotment rounds began on June 14 and continued until July 16, which marks the final round for IIT seats.
  • After the seat allocation, online reporting and fee payments will happen until July 21, and physical admission formalities for NIT+ institutes completed by the end of July.
  • Students who don’t secure a seat or want to upgrade in JoSAA Counselling can participate in the CSAB Special Rounds to fill any remaining vacant seats.
  • Keeping track of deadlines on josaa.nic.in is crucial, as missing key dates is one of the biggest reasons students lose their chances despite good ranks.

What is the counselling process for JEE Mains?

JEE Main counselling 2025, carried out by JoSAA, is an online process in which candidates register, enter their preferable choices, and undergo 6 seat allotment rounds based on rank in JEE Main, category, and vacancy.

Final seat allotments happen after mock allotments, along with document verification and fee submission to finalize admissions. Candidates can either accept, upgrade, or withdraw their seats.

After JoSAA, CSAB Special Rounds are conducted to fill the empty seats in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.

Which counselling is best for JEE Mains?

For JEE Main candidates, JoSAA counselling is the first choice because it provides admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs in a clear and systematic manner.

Different state-level and private university counsellings also offer admissions in government and private engineering colleges on the basis of JEE Main ranks.

Best Counselling Option for JEE Mains

Counselling Type Institutions Covered Best For

Smart Choice Filling Strategy for JEE Main 2025 – Optimize Your Seat Allotment

Since there are more than 55,000 seats available in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, a good choice-filling strategy is the key to getting a desirable seat in JoSAA Counselling 2025.

Students can lose better seat opportunities because of wrong choice ordering.

  • Candidates in 2024 who logically changed choices after mock allotments had as many as 15-20% improved seat allocations.
  • Neglecting home-state NIT benefits lowers choice opportunities by 10-12% in reserved categories.
  • Upper cut-off branches such as CSE in premier NITs demand accurate rank estimation for practical expectations.
Strategy Explanation
Diversified Preference Order List top NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs with diverse cut-offs to enhance prospects.
Balance Between Rank & Ambition Maintain a combination of aspirational (high cut-off), realistic, and backup options.
Use Mock Allotments Wisely Modify decisions according to trends in the two mock allotment rounds.
Research College Data Study placement records, staff, infrastructure, and branch reputation before making a decision.
Home State Quota Advantage Look at NITs where the Home State Quota is applicable for improved prospects.
Branch vs. College Debate If targeting core branches such as CSE, ECE, or Mechanical, opt for mid-tier NITs rather than lower-tier ones.
Do Not Leave Choices Blank Complete as many options as possible to not miss the seat allotment.

JEE Main 2025 Expected Cut-off : Category-wise Qualifying Marks

JEE Main 2025 cut-off is the minimum percentile that must be obtained to be eligible for JEE Advanced and get admission into NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. The expected cut-off depends on past trends, the level of difficulty, and the number of candidates sitting for the exam.

  • The overall category cut-off is likely to be around 89-91, with slight variations depending on paper difficulty.
  • OBC-NCL candidates could require 74-76 percentile, and the cut-off for the EWS category should be 76-78.
  • The SC and ST categories' cut-off is still relatively lower, which enables more aspirants to qualify for JEE Advanced.
  • The ultimate cut-off will be declared with JEE Main 2025 results after the second session in April 2025.

JEE Main 2025 Expected Cut-off (Category-wise)

Category Expected Cut-off Percentile
General 89 - 91
OBC-NCL 74 - 76
SC 44 - 46
ST 29 - 31
EWS 76 - 78
PwD 0.11 - 0.15

Can I apply for JoSAA with a 60 percentile?

Yes, 60 percentile candidates in JEE Main are eligible to apply for JoSAA counselling because the counselling process is open to all candidates qualified as per their merit, irrespective of their JEE Main percentile.

  • But getting a seat with such a percentile is practically impossible for General (Unreserved) category candidates, as 60 percentile would generally mean a rank above 3,00,000—well above the top NIT and IIIT cut-offs.
  • Candidates belonging to reserved categories like SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, or PwD can also find limited opportunities in lower-ranked colleges or through state-level counselling.
  • State-level counselling normally provides greater opportunities for admission to state colleges.

Ques. I got 281441 rank in JEE Mains. Can I take admission to MNIT Jaipur

You are not eligible to enroll at MNIT Jaipur under the general All India quota in B.Tech because of your JEE Main rank of 281,441. For this reason, depending on the branch, the lowest rank in the General category (AI quota) at MNIT Jaipur in 2025 was approximately 38,000. Metallurgy and civil engineering, two even less competitive fields, close below 80,000–90,000. Your rank is far beyond this range. Here is what can you do: – Search other NITs or GFTIs: Lower cutoffs will be there in New NITs or Government Funded Technical Institutes. If you belong to SC/ST/OBC/EWS, there is hope.  – State-Level Colleges: Apply to state engineering colleges or private universities with higher cutoffs that take JEE Main scores. Examples: RTU, LNCT, VIT, etc.  – Management Quota / Direct Admission Private colleges permit students to accept admissions on the basis of their 12th-grade marks or low JEE ranks.  – Take a Gap Year If you wish to enter NITs or top colleges, take a gap to prepare for JEE Main 2026. Ques. Is there any college I can get into if my JEE Main CRL is 112660 in the Gen category?

You can have a college of this standard, but the best NITs and core branches such as CSE or ECE might not be available in the open category. But the newer NITs, IIITs, or GFTIs with less competitive streams such as civil, metallurgy, or production provide opportunities, particularly in spot or special rounds. Attempt home state counseling with better cutoffs. State and private engineering colleges consider this rank. Complete a few options in JoSAA and remain flexible. You can get into a good college but may not get the top branch. For detail of different colleges, you can check out Collegedunia’s Page...Read More

Ques. I scored 121 in my JEE exam. I would like to know if I’m eligible for admission to IIT Madras.

No, with 121 in JEE Main, you will not be eligible for IIT Madras admission because IITs accept JEE Advanced scores and not JEE Main. If your 121 is JEE Main, check if you are among the first 2.5 lakh students who can appear for JEE Advanced. Only candidates with a good rank in JEE Advanced can get through in IIT Madras. Quick Breakdown: Criteria Details Exam Required JEE Advanced (not JEE Main) What your score means 121 in JEE Main may not qualify you for JEE Advanced cutoff Admission Process Qualify JEE Main ? Ques. My EWS rank in JEE Main is 26,066. Do I have a chance of getting admission into any NIT? If yes, which ones could I possibly get?

Since EWS rank 26,066 is quite low, getting admission to top NITs or popular branches like CSE, ECE, or IT is difficult since these usually close below 10,000 EWS rank. Don't lose hope, though! You can still get options in some of the newer NITs or less popular branches, particularly during the last rounds of JoSAA counselling. Possible Options You Can Explore: NITs to Target Likely Available Branches NIT Puducherry, Mizoram, Sikkim Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Metallurgy NIT Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh Production, Bio-Tech, Instrumentation, etc. Note: These are tentative and depend on this year’s cutoff trends.  Check detailed cutoffs at NIT Cutoff – ?collegedunia What you should do is fill as many options in JoSAA (all NITs + all branches) as possible, do not leave any counselling round, and keep backup options free like IIITs, GFTIs, or state colleges based on JEE Main score...Read More
