Is JEE Mains of 300 or 360 marks?
JEE Main is conducted for a total of 300 marks in its current format. Here's a detailed explanation based on the latest exam pattern:- Total Marks (Current Format):
- The JEE Main exam consists of 90 questions divided equally among Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (30 questions per subject).
- Out of these, candidates need to attempt 75 questions (25 questions per subject).
- Each correct answer awards 4 marks, and 1 mark is deducted for incorrect answers, making the maximum possible score 300 marks.
- Previous Format (360 Marks):
- Earlier, the exam was conducted for 360 marks, with 30 questions per subject that were all mandatory. Each question carried 4 marks, contributing to the higher total.
- The shift to 300 marks was implemented when optional numerical-type questions were introduced, with only 75 questions being compulsory.

Is 75 marks good in JEE Main?
A score of 75 marks in JEE Main is considered below average and may not be sufficient to secure admission to NITs or qualify for JEE Advanced, especially for the General category. Here’s a detailed, data-oriented breakdown:- Percentile Analysis:
- Based on previous years' trends, a score of 75 marks corresponds to a 50-60 percentile, placing you in the bottom 40-50% of candidates.
- For General category, this score is below the typical cutoff (around 87-90 percentile) required to qualify for JEE Advanced or gain admission to NITs.
- Category-Wise Cutoffs:
- For OBC-NCL, the cutoff percentile is typically around 75-80 percentile, making 75 marks insufficient.
- For SC/ST candidates, the cutoff percentile ranges between 50-60 percentile, meaning 75 marks may just meet or slightly exceed the qualifying cutoff.
- Opportunities:
- While 75 marks may not secure a seat in NITs or IITs, it can provide options in private universities or state-level engineering colleges with lower cutoffs.
