What Students Say
Likes
- The natural environment outside. With lots of trees and natural beauty around it gives a soothing study environment
- The academic environment is great with balanced fests and exams schedules and time for self introspection and developing skills
- Various clubs designed and students can join as per their interest
Dislikes
- Class timings. The class duration is from Monday to Friday, morning 8 to 5 in the evening. And waking up at 8 on a coldy weather is not pleasable.
- Too much orientation from clubs lined up all together.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is great. The freshies are taught basic subjects from each branch and are given well equipped knowledge for the course curriculum. And in 2nd year there is a branch change option.
Internships Opportunities
As a freshie I am not the right person to state that. But as per our college records, the college provides great internship opportunities ranging from tech companies to government. Students with the GPA and skills can easily fetch a good internship.
Placement Experience
From 6th semester students are offered various internship opportunities and placements opportunities start afterhand from the onset of 8th semester. Last year in 2024, the placement record stood at the highest pachage offered 52.89LPA and an average of 13.54LPA. More than 200 companies visited and more than 600 offers were made.
Fees and Financial Aid
During the course completion, students at the institute pay an annual fees of 96000 and tution fees of 62000, which is taken in two parts, half each semester. However the tution fees for SC, ST and PWD canditates are waived. For the registration process a sum of 5000 has to be paid during the JOSSA councelling. The fees breakup of a semester include a mandatory 11000 sum, which includes all the necessary bills, from light to water and medical insurance, medicines, sports fees, exam fees, lab charges, student union fees, cleaning and other as oer the required breakup. Over the four year period, various scolarship opportunities are provided. In the 1st year itself numerous merit-based scolarships are provided on behalf of college and government, comprising it is an Institute of National Importance. For SC, ST, PWD students, only the minimum mess and hostel bills and students are also given fee relaxation based on parental income.
Campus Life
Apart from academics, the month of October brings TECHNOESIS the annual tech fest of the college. Ranging from robowars, debates, mechatriz and many more, the 4 days are an all rounder for a techy geek. The cultural fest INCANDESENCE fall in the month of February, which brings various Bollywood artists and comedy nights with open theatre, cosplay, prom and many more amazing events.
Hostel Facilities
The mess food is average. Not like too fancy or just like your home, but the food quality is decent, from breakfast to lunch to snacks and dinner it gives all in time. Lunch meal is somewhat not interested by all. But overall food quality is decent.
Admission
I chose this college as NIT Silchar is an allrounder package, you want academics? Done! Fest? Done!! Every wing is awesome. From the very first being in my home state, it was the best college I can opt for after IIT Guwahati. I did got offers from other colleges government and semi, but NITS gave me my favourite branch and secured future. This college has a great placement records in PSUs for core branches and great IT sector companies for other branches. Courae is ergonomically designed to withstand the students potential and push up to next limits. The eligibility criteria is pretty simple, just fetch a good score in JEE Mains and lo you have your favourite branch in this amazing college.
Faculty
The faculty and student interaction is great. In a class of 80, the professors manage to maintain and give importance to each. Each group of 40, gets a professor assigned, called the faculty advisor who is there to lookafter every academic and non academic issues. Throughout the semester, there are 3 important exams, the midsems, minors and endsems. There can be additional projects and classtests in the 1st year depending on the faculty in charge. And most of the subjects can be easily covered with class notes and rest can be prepaeed from youtube. Subjects like Electronics and Mechanics are hard to score and pass.
Night Life
The night life is scenic. Late nights walks with your friends or casual hangout to the cafe or gym or library, NITS provide it all. Safe to roam and explore what more you want. In timings for the freshies are 9.00 PM for both boys and girls.
