How to Calculate the Scores Using the GATE Answer Key?
To calculate your score using the GATE Answer Key, first download the answer key and your response sheet from the GOAPS portal.
Understand the GATE Marking Scheme:
| Question Type | Correct Answer | Incorrect Answer | Unattempted Question |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Mark Questions (MCQ) | +1 mark | –1/3 mark | 0 mark |
| 2 Mark Questions (MCQ) | +2 marks | –2/3 mark | 0 mark |
| NAT (Numerical Answer Type) | +1 or +2 marks | 0 mark (No negative marking) | 0 mark |
| MSQ (Multiple Select Questions) | +1 or +2 marks | 0 mark (No negative marking) | 0 mark |
Now, calculate your GATE Raw Score using the formula:
GATE Raw Score = (Sum of marks for correct answers) – (Negative marks for incorrect MCQs)
Note: Do not deduct marks for NAT or MSQ questions, as there is no negative marking.
- Compare your estimated score with previous years’ cutoff trends.
- The final GATE score is calculated after normalization (for multi-session papers), so slight variations may occur.
