Thapar University Faculties : Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 895 Reviews

The faculty at this college is highly qualified, with a significant number of professors holding PhDs, primarily from prestigious institutions such as IITs, NITs, and foreign universities. The faculty-to-student ratio is approximately 1:20, although it can vary, with lectures having a ratio of 1:100 to 1:150, and tutorials and labs being closer to 1:20. The faculty is approachable, offering multiple contact methods, including email, phone, and office visits. They are known for being supportive, knowledgeable, and dedicated to students' academic and personal growth.

However, there are mixed reviews regarding teaching quality, with some faculty being exceptional and others less engaging. The college emphasizes practical knowledge through projects, labs, and industrial visits. Faculty members are involved in research and often collaborate with students. The curriculum is updated to keep pace with industry standards, and exams, including mid-semester and end-semester tests, are designed to be moderately challenging. Overall, the faculty is generally well-regarded, despite some variability in teaching effectiveness.

The faculty student ration is quite great, idk exactly but its more than sufficient. Most of the faculty are friendly and approchable, the TAs are quite helpful, I personally liked Ashish Purohit sir and Rajnish Mallick, both of them are very proffesional, well spoken and supportive. Most of the teachers are non discriminating, there is a certain gap in freedom and the approch between girls and boys hostels, boys hostel are more linient and have friendly and caring approch. The exams there are moderately difficult

1. Faculty to student ratio for M.Sc. Physics course was 1 teacher for 5 students. Faculty was easily approachable. Anyone can connect with them anytime. They were ready to help. 2. I liked most Dr. Dheeraj Kumar, who was my mentor for research project as well. His understanding on the subject is amazing. He is a great teacher and mentor as well. I learned alot from him. 3. All faculty members were more like friends. I did not get into any scenario which leads to dislike of the faculty member. 4. I someone is taking lectures regulary then exam are not difficult for that student.

The faculty- student ratio at Thapar is generally good, with most classes having around 60-70 students, ensuring that faculty can give individual attention when needed. Many professors are highly qualified, with PhDs from reputed institutions, and they maintain a professional yet approachable attitude. The best faculty members are those who focus on practical learning and link concepts to real life applications, which makes understanding easier. Some faculty members are strict with attendance and internal marks, which sometimes feel rigid. The marking scheme is fair overall but can vary depending on the professor- some are generous with internal marks, while others are quite strict. The course curriculum is regularly updated yo match industry requirements, with a good balance of theory and practical work. Most students are ble to clear exams with consistent study, through maintaining a high CGPA(above 8.5) requires extra efforts dur to competitive grading.

Thapar University: 4 Answered Questions

Who are some of the best faculty in Thapar University?

Sanovar Lohia
Anil SinghStudied at Thapar University

I am an alumnus of Thapar University. Back when I was a student, Dr. V.P. Aggarwal was one of the best teachers at Thapar.

Back in 2014, sir used to teach us KOM (Kinematics of Machines - UME 302). I would usually arrive late for all my lectures, and sit for them with almost no interest. But one of sir’s classes truly inspired me and changed my perspective on life.

Our ESTs were nearing, and so those days very few students attended classes. Sir was teaching us a topic and at the end, he asked us for our doubts. All of us were sitting in a disinterested manner, almost as if forced to attend the lectures. This was when sir told us that he had come back to the university at 4 in the morning, straight from Jabalpur.

He had come back specifically for our class. When we asked him why he took so much pain for a single class, he replied that it was duty to teach his students. He said he would have felt restless with the thought that maybe some student had a query that day which couldn’t be solved because of his absence.

He told us that for him duty was above everything else. He wanted all his students to work hard and stay motivated. That day changed my perspective on life, and made me realize the importance of hardwork.

This is why, for me, sir is one of the best teachers whom I studied under at Thapar University.

Which college is better in terms of study, faculty, environment, and placement of CS branch - NIT, Srinagar (J&K) or Thapar University?

Meghdeepa Mondal
Tithi AggrawalLives in New Delhi

The CS branch of Thapar University has much better ranking placements, and faculty as compared to NIT Srinagar.

  • Academic excellence: Thapar University has ranked 20 among the top engineering colleges of India according to the NIRF report 2023. This proves its academic excellence in terms of study, faculty, infrastructural ability, and placement as well.
  • Faculty: The students will get an opportunity to learn under the guidance of highly educated and experienced faculties in their respective fields with an extensive understanding of the industry.
  • Environment: Due to tight eligibility criteria and a high fee structure Thapar University has a good quality of students. Rajiv Rattan (IPS Officer Current Designation: DG). Vishal Narang (Assistant Vice President - Engineering at Aricent, Gurgaon, Haryana, India) and many more eminent professionals are notable alumni of this institute.
  • Placement: In 2023 the highest package offered in placements was INR 40 LPA. The median package stood at INR 10.97 LPA.

So, based on these factors, Thapar University will be a better option than NIT, Srinagar. While both institutions have their merits, Thapar University is exceptional for its reputation for academic excellence, robust extracurricular opportunities, and cutting-edge facilities.
