The MBA students were offered a median packae of INR 7.86 LPA, while the management department achieved a placement rate of 83.6%. Though when I got admission in this college, I saw the placement rates were very nice, around 95%, but maybe it was our session's fault. I passed out in 2024, and in that particular year, the placements were not as expected and as seen in the previous batch, so that was something very much disappointing because I paid so much money on a degree, only everything was good about the college, but in the end, placement matters during my session. Usually, the companies that hired for example, 10 students only hired two students.

from 6th semester students are leigible for placements. here lots and lots of companies visit. even all these companies dont visit every iit like d.e.shaw,jpmc , morgan stanley etc etc. well d.e.shaw didnt made offer from last 2 years to our campus but its ok there are literally 100 of companies that visit. highest package last year was 54 lakhs as sde in morgan stanley. if you belong to computer branch then placement percentage is almost 90% but for other branches its 50-60%. if i did not get the placement i will be applying for software engineer offcampus.

The placement Record is not good, Job Profiles did not match the student study or student profile.

Placement Experience:

Placements record is very bad ,Maximum students do MBA or any other course for the placments. But here 25-30% students who are willing to get placed are still left for the placements and maximum roles offered here is not matched the candidate requirements or profile. Average placements is lower then expected it is around 5-6 LPA . And the highest package is around 12.5 LPA .

Based on the packages offered at Thapar University, the recruiting companies are divided into three categories- Category 1 companies offer 1 LPA- less than 4 LPA, Category 2 companies offer 4-8 LPA, and Category 3 companies offer more than 8 LPA.

Those who are selected in a category 3 company, can’t sit for further placements. Those who are selected in a category 2 company, can sit only for category 3 companies. Those who are selected for a category 1 company, can sit for both category 2 and category 3 companies. But each student can receive a maximum of 2 offers. The CS branch of Thapar University has much better ranking placements, and faculty as compared to NIT Srinagar.

Academic excellence: Thapar University has ranked 20 among the top engineering colleges of India according to the NIRF report 2023. This proves its academic excellence in terms of study, faculty, infrastructural ability, and placement as well.
Faculty: The students will get an opportunity to learn under the guidance of highly educated and experienced faculties in their respective fields with an extensive understanding of the industry.
Environment: Due to tight eligibility criteria and a high fee structure Thapar University has a good quality of students. Rajiv Rattan (IPS Officer Current Designation: DG). Vishal Narang (Assistant Vice President - Engineering at Aricent, Gurgaon, Haryana, India) and many more eminent professionals are notable alumni of this institute.
Placement: In 2023 the highest package offered in placements was INR 40 LPA. The median package stood at INR 10.97 LPA.

The placements in Thapar University are better than almost all the NITs, barring the top 4 or 5 NITs. Like the usual trend, CSE placements are the best in Thapar. For other branches, placements at Thapar and all the other Engineering colleges have suffered immensely in the past few years. This is because the PSUs formed a large chunk of recruiters for core engineering branches like Civil, Mechanical, etc, and they are now recruiting via GATE. This is a setback for Thapar University and other Engineering Colleges.

For the CSE branch, placements are really good. Even the Mechanical branch has good placements. It is a top branch at Thapar University. EIE comes third in terms of placements. The placements for Electrical and ECE are not so good. But ECE, Electrical, and the other remaining branches get plenty of offers from IT companies that are mass recruiters and offer non-core jobs to all the branches.

Choose Thapar University if money is not a concern for you as it has decent placements. However, if there are financial constraints, even an average NIT is not a bad option.

To be honest, the general scenario of Mechanical Engineering at most Indian colleges is pathetic, and rarely do core companies come for placements. Surprisingly enough, Thapar is among the few companies that are visited by core mechanical companies. So yes, Thapar University’s Mechanical Engineering is second only to IITs, NITs, and BITS. Here are a few highlights of the course

During the 4th semester, students are given 3 projects of Creo which have no written exam. The project alone takes months to complete and students learn the whole solid modeling during the process.
Earlier, Mechatronics was an optional subject but now it has been made compulsory in the 2nd year. The reason is its increasing scope in the future and its compulsion in papers like ESEs.
Frequent workshops are held solely to impart knowledge and no grading is done for these.
The Mechanical Department has some of the best faculty with highly experienced professors. Some even are Ph.D. holders from old IITs.
The peer group is excellent because usually the ones passionate about Mechanical join this program.
The placement scenario is decent and companies like Eicher, Honda, Maruti, Hero, Royal Enfield, etc. visit for campus placement.
The entire 6th semester is for internships so students gain a lot of practical experience and prepare better for placements.

So Thapar University’s Mechanical Department is an excellent option if you are passionate about the field and are unable to make it into ITs, NITs, or BITS, then go for Thapar.

My brother shared his placement experience at Thapar University. He got a break of one month prior to placement season. This break was meant for preparing for the interviews and gave him enough time to work on his aptitude, coding, and other technical skills. He was inclined towards core profile jobs so he focused mainly on aptitude and technical skills.

The first interview he sat for was TCS Digital but he failed to clear its written test.
Next came Varroc of which his written test went very well, but sadly they didn't select anyone from his branch.
For Asian paints, he managed to clear the written round but failed in the group discussion round
After this, he appeared for around 4–5 IT/Software companies but failed to clear the rounds.
After this, Capgemini had 2 written rounds which he cleared easily but his interview was postponed.
The next day he heard that Reliance was also coming. It was his dream to get selected there but he wasn’t sure if he could reject Capgemini for Reliance.
He decided to try his luck and went for Reliance Industries Ltd. He cleared the written test and the interview as well.

He managed to make it into his dream company when all other companies had rejected him!

Societies or clubs in every institute mainly help in personal development. They will certainly help you in improving your skills, communication and also provide exposure. But clubs or societies don’t directly help in getting placements at Thapar University.

For placements, the first and foremost important thing is clearing the aptitude test because without clearing that you won’t be allowed to participate in the placement sessions. The second important thing is your summer internship program. The summer internship program has to be something substantial to your course and preferably from a good company. Working in a substantial summer internship program will also help in clearing the placement interview.

The certificates from the clubs or the societies won’t do much good even if you put them in the resume. It is better to work on your English, Communication Skills, and aptitude as these will help you in the placement and also in the long run.
