Is it worth doing a BTech in biotechnology from Thapar University, or should I prefer a government college like UIET Chandigarh? What are the placement records of biotechnology students at Thapar?

If you have a keen interest in biotechnology, then B.Tech in Biotechnology is an excellent field. But if you aren’t interested in the branch it will be better to go for other branches. I have friends from both institutes. Here are some of the facts about the Biotech course at both institutes based on the interactions I had with them. Comparison: Biotech from UIET Chandigarh is decent, but the placement opportunities are limited. But if you have a good academic record then you can go for higher studies at Panjab University which has a good industry interface with Sun Pharma. Panjab University holds a better international reputation than Thapar University. It will help you sail through the admission process in a leading foreign institute for further education in biotech. The crowd in UIET Chandigarh is better than Thapar University. The reason is, UIET requires to require a less JEE Mains cut-off rank as compared to Thapar. Thapar is a private university. So, it has the edge over the placements compared to UIET Chandigarh. Being a private institution it charges a massive fee as compared to UIET Chandigarh. Thapar has a tie-up Trinity College, Dublin, so you get an opportunity to do (2+2), i.e., two years at Thapar and two years at Trinity. This program can hike the fee up to INR 40-45 Lakhs. Before joining, it will be better to have a conversation with the students on campus to have a wholesome knowledge about the institutes.

Per semster fee is about 3 lakh and there are 2 semster in a year. I dont know much about scholarahip but as i know it provided scholarships to students with good marks and score on basis of 12 and jee.it does peovided scholarship to student with finacial isuues

The schedule can be really hectic with academics, projects and skill learning.
The fees is awfully high. Moreover hostel accomodation is very expensive making it difficult for middle class families to manage.

The year wise fees can be divided into tuition and hostel . Year wise tuition fees is 298000 for each semester with an additional of 30000 as admission fee in first semester. The hostel fees can varry depending upon type of room you choose but for a year it can go around 130000 . Fees is ame in caste categories but different for some courses. Varios scholorships are provided upon need as well as merit. Need based scholorship is for annual family income less than equal to 10 lakh.

Academic excellence and beyond

The fee I paid is approximately 2,41,900 in 1st semester , 2,18,900 in 2nd sem, 2,38,600 in 3rd sem, 2,38,600 in 4th sem and 5th sem it is 2,60,100 and the following semsester approximately the same followed by approximately 60,000 of hostel and 22,000 of mess every semester. About the scholarship in 1st year it is on the merit basis of jee and the rest of the years for students scoring 9 cgpa or above 9.5 and 1st year many other like only girl child, army children and many more. Its almost same for all the branches but this is specifically for computer engineering, for electrical branches it is a little less than this where as for computer science branch and computer business it is expensive than this.

Fee structure is like it is changing every semester. It increase according to semester. Or overall fee for four years are approximately 25 lakh of academic only and remaining like hostel and mess fee. Hostel fee also depends on which type of room you want and mess fee is same for all that is 24500. And scholarship depends on student like on cutoff if cut off is above 90 than they only gives on 98 and 99 percentage they only cut there fee.

My Honest Opinion

The fees of Thapar for the facilities they provide is too much.

I paid 3,27,000 for 1st semester in which 30,000 is security deposit and admission fees.Total 4 year fees is 23,80,000 so per year it is 5,95,000. People pursuing ECE course have 21,60,000 total fees so there yearly fees is 5,40,000.

The fees for btech biotechnology for a year is 6 lakhs approximately for the year 2022 onwards and with every year the course fees increases. The examination fees is around 3000, student security fees is 10000,admission fees is 13000,medical fees is 500, tuition fees is 129300,development fees is 55000, student activities charge is around 7500 for general quota The fees for other branches like computer sciences, electronics, electrical is comparitively higher. for computer sciences and electronics it is around 8 lakhs per year Various scholarships are available like the tiet merit cum means scholarship(normal) for student with gross family income of less than 10 lakhs and with a cgpa of 7.00 with no backlogs , tiet merit cum mean scholarship(lateral entry)- for students gross family income of less than 10 lakhs and aggregate 70% at diploma level and tiet merit cum mean scholarship(special).- for deserving case of UG students not covered in tiet merit cum means scholarship normal.

The course is designed to give more exposure to practical knowledge rather on theory.

The starting fees was 195000 per sem and it increases 10 percent every year currently i am a third year stundent and paying 219000 per semester. There are many scholarships based upon your CGPA and some scholarships for low income families. Registration fees was 10000.

College aspects which i like is it's very beautiful campus but ln other hand development fees is too high

The course curriculum is i feel not making me feel that it has worth in my life.

Tuition fees is around 145000 and the Registration fees is around 15000 also Admission fees is around 10,000 with added Development fees is 55000. Additional charges may apply if you are likely to stay in hostel.

Thapar As A Miracle

The total fees of our college is 25 lakhs the per semester fees of our college is around three lakhs. The hostel fees of our college is around 50,000 and the fees is around 40,000. I know it is a bit more expensive than I expected, but yeah, but I can do, but the college provide various facilities and the average package of the college is also very good, so that's why I have opted this college.
