Ques: How can I go abroad after BTech Biotech for a Masters (MS) or PhD?

Ans: It is strongly encouraged at our Department that the BTech students take research projects during their tenure at Bennett University which is recognised as the best Biotechnology engineering colleges in India.Research project results are also helpful for getting good scholarships and institutions.. Since biotech is a major part of the economy in many western countries (e.g., as high as 40% of venture capital funding goes to Biotech in the UK), the number of scholarships are much higher even compared to the mass-optimized discipline of computer science.

Ques: What is the difference between a 3 years BSc Biotechnology /microbiology /zoology / botany and  a 4 year BTech Biotechnology?

Ans: BSc degree is a science course, while BTech is a technology course. BTech Biotechnology provides  hands-on training and experience  on how to convert a science knowledge and discovery into a scalable and marketable innovation.

For e.g BSc Biotechnology is involved in the discovery of insulin (the blood glucose regulator enzyme) However, generating insulin inside a microorganism in a large amount, and then upscaling it into a metric-ton production facility for commercialization is BTech Biotechnology. The advantage of BTech Biotechnology is that it  provides research project-based hands-on learning, whereas a BSc program would rather be more on the theoretical side.

Ques: Is it possible to do a PhD right after BTech Biotech at universities abroad?

Ans: Yes,  direct entry from BTech to Ph.D. programs are also available in some universities for bright students.

The students are taken at an MS program. If their training and aptitude are found suitable for Ph.D., then they usually transition into Ph.D. after 1 year. The quality of project work done should be good enough to meet the requirements of  BTech programme w.r.t. conference papers and publications which largely determines the chances of getting into a good institution even with financial support.

Placement Experience

At BIT Mesra third is like full of practice for placements and final year more of placements activities than studies. So, when all these things are in order placements obviously will be more or less certain and here they are certain only with almost 90% students are places through campus with annual placements of 8-10 lakhs per annum.

Campus Life

BIT FEST is a fest in Jharkhand which nobody else can even match. Campus is in hundreds and hundreds of acres as it's a city within a city. So many students as intake is heavy and all can comfortably fit in as facilities are so heavy. So many auditoriums, so many playgrounds and so many clubs and activities to dealt with.

Faculty

Faculty to student ratio is good. Faculty is approachable and will help you get internships and jobs. There are many faculty members who are very helpful but there are also some who should just quit. Exams are of two types - mid sems and end sems. questions are mostly from previous year papers.

Placement Experience

Students become eligible for campus placements in the last year. High profile companies as well as small companies come for placements but more small scale companies come as compared. My plans after completing the degree is to get a job or go for a higher degree.

Fees and Financial Aid

The total fees of JIIT Noida is 1.59 Lakhs per sem. This includes tution fees only but there are other facilities available in the campus like the hostel, mess, cafeteria, etc which is additional to the tution fees. Quality of education is good. All classerooms are equipped with projector screens and AC. The teachers are very professional in thier field and that is why the the college offers qulaity education. Hostel fees ranges from 6-10 lakhs for a four year program. There is one time Caution fees as well which is refundable at the end of the course which is 20000/- There isn't any management category available and the fees is same for all.

Faculty

1:30 is the average ratio. I really used to like lab sessions because they provide you real life scenarios. So doing things practically that we learnt theoretically had its own importance. So per sem there are 3 sets of exams. T1,T2 and T3. T1 and T2 are of 20 marks each and for 1 hour duration. T3 are of 35 marks covering the enitre syllabus and the duration for this is 2 hours.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure for 1st years in the academic year 2024-2025 was- Caution deposit- 15000 rupees Tuition fees- 62500 rupees for 1 semester Other things- 30000 for things like id card, registration, admission Hostel and mess fees- 30000 rupees for 1 semester From 2nd year, the fees will decrease by around 30-40,000 rupees. SC/ST students don't need to pay the tuition fees, but just the hostel and mess fees. People with income between 1 lakh and 5 lakhs pay 2/3rd of the fees. People with less than 1 lakh annual income don't need to pay any fees. There is National Scholarships for such people of generally weaker economic backgrounds. Fees is increasing over the years for mess and hostel, but the tuition fees is pretty constant

Course Curriculum Overview

I chose the college over the course. Nit warangal is close to my home in Hyderabad. The courses I was getting based on the previous year closing ranks for the course were only 3. Out of these, biotechnology ranked the best in terms of placement and package in the past year, which is why I chose it. So far in 1st year, the courses are pretty useful and good to learn about, but just the amount of information and syllabus that is expected from us to learn is a little huge. The exams are pretty well timed, but I believe there should be given gaps between every exam, at least in alternate days. We don't do it like that in nit warangal though.

At the time of admission, we have to give ?291000 including admission charges, tution fees, technical fees, etc. this fee is for the 1st semester. Annual fests like MOKSH and spring fest in march, lit fest in April and other competitions held in media marvel fest and flower fest. There's a variety of journals written by our seniors and professors accessible to us in the library, fiction and non fiction with subject related books are also available. Facilities and technologies present in our university had benches, podium, smart board, projector, white boards. A yuvraj singh stadium is present for cricket matches and football with a milkha singh sports facilities having gym and badminton area. I was a part of NSS , social group run by students moderated with faculty and Red taboo club which was solely managed by students.

Faculty

15 students per faculty i.e., 1:15. Faculty and students had a very respectful yet friendly relationship in terms of studies and other personal matter. All of the faculty were really approachable and guided us through the problem. I liked Dr Pankaj Chauhan and Dr Tarun Pal sir as they both helped me throughout my project and even in personal matters. There was no faculty that I dreaded as such. Exams were divided into 3 i.e., unit 1,2 and final. Less than 5% students failed and that too for low attendance. The course curriculum is up to date to industry standards.

Faculty

In the first year all of the BTech undergraduates from all branch including students of msc bsc too have to study the same syllabus on their first year. The whole 950 students are divided into 8 sections each sections containing 120 students approximately who are taught by one faculty per subject during the theory classes and in laboratories during practical classes the students have to perform the experiments in groups of 7,8 or 4 prople depending on the availability of the equipments of the experimental setups, from second year onwards the departments are separated. In CSE and Mechanical department the student capacity is the largest having 180 students per batch and in other batches the student capacity is around 75-80 and in the integrated msc bsc of chemistry they have only 8 students. The faculties are very bad at teaching most of the faculties are even not interested in teaching. Some of the faculties are very good at teching including Dr.Satya bagchi,Dr.md Firoz Ali,Dr.subhomoy changder,Dr.J kartikeya etc. The exams are tough because we have to cover a huge syllabus in a very small span of time, per semester there is a 100 marks evaluation per theoritical subject which is divided into two exams one is mid-sem exam of 25 marks per theory subjects and lab exams and their viva and end semester exams of 60 marks covering the entire curriculum in the syllabus at the end of the semester. Except these two exams there are assignments and class assesments (a type of class tests) of marks 15 which are added in the end semester full marks. The competitions are high among the students to score good marks, obtaining marks is a bit harder as compared to the other private colleges and many students have to sit for supplymentary exams who are unable to secure pass marks in their exams and whoever is unable to clear their backlog too, they are given an active backlog exam of that subject.the course is well designed but sometimes it is felt that some of the subjects are irrelevant.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees of the first semester is generally a bit higer than the other seven semester as there are some extra fees included in the fees of the first semester like Admission fee (3500),Alumni activity fee (1000),convocation fee (1000) and Institution caution money (10000) (refundable) which gives a sum total of approximately 21,000 rupees aditional to the semester fees which you have to pay once during the course during the first semester. You will have to pay rupees 90,600 from 2nd to 8th semester and have to pay it along with the additional 21,000 in the first semester which i have mentioned above. Now the fees (90,600 per semester) consists of various fees like Library fees of 1200,Laboratory fee of 2000,Examination fees of 1200,Institution development fee of 2000,Training and placement fee of 1500,Computing and internet fees of (3000),Electricity and Water fees of 1700,Student activity fund fees of 2500,Health insurance charge of 1500,Hostel seat rent of 10000,Hostel establishment charge of 1500 and Hostel caution money of 5000(refundable) etc. which are included in this amount (90600) .Tution fees of 62,500 is included in the semester fees. For SC , ST and PWD candidates the Tution fees are completely waived those candidates have to pay only the rest money exluding the tution money from the semester fees (28,100) and for the students having family income lesser than 1lakh per annum the tution fees are also waived for them and the students whose family income is between 1 to 5 lakh per annum their two third tution money is waived. The rest of the students have to pay the enitre 90,600 rupees. The semester fees of rupees 90,600 is excluded of MESS charges which varies from semester to semester depending upon various tenders (in our first semester it was 19,000 and in second semester it was 17,000).Note that in NIT(s) and IIT(s) residing in hostel is compulsary and the above given detailed fees structure is based on semesters and there is two semester per year.

Faculty and student relationship is pretty good. Some faculties are very strict while other facilities and kind hearted. Some of the faculties are very educated and intelligent for example lalatendu sir. The exams here are pretty difficult there are mid sem and end sem and quizzes throughout the sem.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course curriculum is not good. There are so many useless subjects like workshops where the literally make u labour there is no need of such kind of things and the labs like physics lab and environmental sciences lab they are just useless they should not be the part of course curriculum

There are many events such as . The tech event is called IGNITE held in March. Annual event called MOSAIC held in January for 2 days . There are in total 2 libraries in our college which are quite big enough . All classes are equipped with AC and Projectors. All sports are available including cricket football basketball etc. Yes there are many clubs run by students such as AAGAYZ sports clubs and many more.

Faculty

If we took the average of every class the average students each class is having is 60 students per class . So the ratio is 1:60 Dr. Yash Sharma is a very liked faculty in our college . Because of his way of communication. Dr. KM bala because he doesn't give marks in exam . There are total 2 exams in one semester. It's not that hard to clear exams. Most of the students clear the examination.

There are more than enough faculties for students. There never is a shortage. Most faculties are approachable but the ones who aren't are most of the time busy with research. Piyush Kumar is a professor here who understands the psychology of students and can put himself in our shoes. Snigdha Mishra can do the same. There are two exams- Mid semester and End semester. Approximately 30% students may fail an exam. Course curriculum is very relevant for the most part. I do think there is something about the industry that the experts may know that we don't and that's why they put it in the syllabus.

Course Curriculum Overview

Honestly there was no part of the curriculum that influenced my decision. I wanted to study in the mountains and the two universities I applied to were both in mountain areas. Plus I knew this course would be good for the future. Curriculum is very well designed to prepare one for the industry. Mid semester exams may come too soon after a semester starts and will be completed as soon as possible. If you have 5 exams, it will be a continuous week of exams for you.

The faculties are well qualified and overall good with some exceptions some faculties usually just read from the ppts and all but few of the faculties also emphasize on teaching greatly The faculties are approachable that is you can ask them doubts after the class and all. I liked the maths faculty named Kamlesh Acharya he taught maths very well. There are 2 sets of exams in the college one being the mid sem and the other being the end sems Usually the the checking of question paper is fluid and most of the students pass baring few exceptions . If in case the paper was very tough or something like that then the teachers follow relative grading . The course is quite releavnt including buzz topics like AI and ML

Course Curriculum Overview

This course have a high value in future that is why it influence my decision to choose this course, yes the curriculum prepare us for real world applications and for the academic pursuit theere are a lot of areas that should be improve for course curriculum and teaching methods like teacher should be more interactive with the students and they should change their teaching aids the frequency and timing of exams along with the perspective of their difficulty level is that the timing is within the three months there are internal test taken and the difficulty level is from moderate to difficult.

Campus Life

The annual fest that takes place in our college is Anubhuti, the books available in our library are in quite high amount because there are five libraries each library is present in every building of every course and there is common library so there are a lot of availability of the books the priority of the university is sports and extra curricular activity because it in has the students skills and there a lot of social groups that are being run by the students for example singing groups.

The faculty to student ratio is very good . There's a separate teacher for each lab and subject and in Biotechnology department students are comparatively less than CSE or any department so reaching out teacher is very easy. The teacher I like most is Dr.Manoj Singh he has done his PhD from Moscow (russia) and his knowledge and understanding of topic is on very high level . The teache i didn't like is Dr.Sonali Sangwan because she keep giving too much assignments and tutorials after every class . There are 2 sessional exams and 1 semester exam which is ofcourse final exam is take in a semester. Most of the students pass but still some 3-4 fail. The course curriculum is so relevant with the subject you will encounter various laboratory techniques which have real life use.

Campus Life

UniversuMM, Vasudev kutumbakam and many more there's no fixed month they may fluctuate every year Library is good that you'll love it , it has almost every book present related to you course along with the nobels for reader The facilities that are provided are projector an AC and a smart board. Sport and extracurricular activities are too there's a sport event will be ongoing every month. Ques. Which are the colleges providing B.Sc./B.Tech. Biotechnology in India?

● Top Answer By Viswajeet Ghose on 21 Apr 21

Ans. As of now, there are many reputed colleges and institutes in India offering B.Sc./B.Tech Biotechnology. Here is a list of some of the most reputed colleges for Biotech in India.  Amity University - Amity Institute of Biotechnology VIT University SRM University Lovely Professional University Maharshi Dayanand University Thapar University Banasthali University Rajasthan Technical University Glocal School of Life and Allied Health Sciences Apart from these institutes, Chandigarh University is also a pretty good option. I heard good things about the course from some of my friends who are pursuing it currently.  Here are some of the reasons why Chandigarh university is a worthy choice for pursuing a degree in Biotechnology.  Specializations offered for the course meet the industry requirement, so you will have better employability.  You will have a vertical-based subject choice in three fields, i.e. Industrial Biotechnology, Medical and Clinical Microbiology, Biomedical Engineering.  There are regular industry sessions, workshops, visits, projects, monitoring, and career guidance sessions.  There are options of international semester exchange, semester abroad, and frequent interaction with international experts.  The institute also offers good placement opportunities to the students. Students of Biotechnology usually get a salary package of 6-24 LPA.  The institute also offers many scholarships too based on merit and different factors. Hope the above information helps you in choosing an institute. Read more

Ques. How good is biotech at BIT, Mesra?

● Top Answer By Indrani Pahari on 19 Apr 21

Ans. I would like to share the experience of one of my cousins, who studied biotech at BIT Mesra. It all started after he secured a decent rank in his AIEEE exam and through the All-India quota got admission in BE- Biotechnology course, offered by BIT Mesra. In the first year of his engineering, students studied the same subjects irrespective of their branches. At the end of his first year, he was quite confident that he had studied hard and cleared all subjects without any problems. After getting into his second year on the first day in the department he got the reality check. From that day onwards, he doesn’t advise people to join Biotechnology, here at BIT Mesra. Some vital points about Biotechnology, BIT Mesra: The lab equipment is world-class but none of them truly work. If some of them do the students are not allowed to operate them. The class schedule is quite hectic, students will have classes throughout the day, 5 days a week. For the next 3 years, same things are taught to you under different subject titles. It's like every semester. So from the experience, I shared with you gives you in and out of the field. Now, it is your choice whether you want to get enrolled in the particular field or not.Read more

Ques. Should I take the biotechnology branch at NIT Raipur?

● Top Answer By Shreea Tiwari on 25 Mar 21

Ans. My brother completed his B. Tech in Biotechnology from NIT Raipur in May 2016. The reason for choosing it was because of the brand value. But after being in the college and started taking interest in the studies and various activities, it went on to be a great 4-year long journey. Biotechnology is an amazing subject with many interdisciplinary projects coming up your way. You can always combine your knowledge of biotechnology with other fields, like Electronics,  It is a trustworthy institute for CSE. You will have to work yourself to achieve something big.  Companies that visit NIT Raipur include some good names but not the high-end ones like Google, Facebook but the ones like Oracle, Samsung, Infosys, CTS, CIL, BPCL, Mu-Sigma, Polaris, Yodlee, Analytics Quotient, Tricon Infotech, Capgemini, Wipro, Barclays, Amazon, Pradan, Resonance, etc. Placement Percentage 90-100% Highest Package 17 Lakh Average Package 7-8 Lakh Lowest PAckage 3.5 Lakh The number and level of the companies which visit the campus is going to go up in the coming years. The institute is fast developing in every aspect, be it infrastructure or the quality of students taking admission each year. With a score of 170 in JEE Main, you have a pretty good chance of getting admission in CSE through the home state quota. You might even end up getting some other branches like EE, ECE, etc. One of my friends has passed the third year from CSE, NIT Raipur, and is interning with the UnitedHealth Group, the sixth on the Fortune 500 list of companies.Read more

Ques. I am doing BTech biotech from IMS Engineering College Ghaziabad. What is the scope of my jobs in the future both on and off campus?

● Top Answer By Barkha Roy on 23 Jun 21

Ans. Since B.Tech Biotech is the newly evolving sector in India, you need to struggle a little to get placed in decent jobs. Most core companies do not hire B.Tech students as they get their work done by BSc. Graduates at a very low pay scale, public sectors are good to look for a job. If you want to go into the research and development field, then you need to go for JRF interviews, once you get selected you will do various projects under a well-qualified scientist. Also, 2 years of JRF and SRF can get you a Ph.D. degree. You can join various research centers like ICAR, CSIR, NIO, and many others. You can even give GATE, or GRE and do masters first, then apply for a job. This will make you more capable and many other options will be open for you after pursuing a master's degree. Thus concluding we can say that though there are options for you to enter the research and development field, joining research centers, applying for a job, or searching for a job. But pursuing a master's degree would be a much better option as it will provide you ample opportunities to opt for.Read more

Ques. How is the biotech department of BIT Mesra?

● Top Answer By Ayantika Ghose on 19 Feb 21

Ans. The Biotech Department of BIT Mesra is average. If you want to join a core company after completing your degree, there are better alternatives. Maximum placement at the institute is in IT and Analytics. Among the companies that visit the campus for pavement, Nestle is the only one that is close to your area of interest.  Here are some other facts that you need to know about the Biotech department.  The department has great faculty and infrastructure. Despite that, you will see many students consulting a lot of books for their course-work, as it is not close to the concept of engineering that they had in mind. As mentioned before, very few core companies visit the campus placement. One of my friends pursued Biotech from BIT Mesra and during her time Biotech students were allowed to sit for only a few consultancies as well.  There are alumni of this institute who secure good off-campus placement offers on their own. So, getting a good job offer depends on your effort. This is a brief picture of BIT Mesra. The final decision is up to you.Read more
