Ques. Which is the cheapest government and private LLB college in India?
Ans. Government Law College, Madurai, is the most affordable government college in India, with a 3-year LLB with a fee amounting to INR 1,550, and Allahabad Degree College, Allahabad, is the most affordable private law college in India, with a fee of INR 3,600 for the 3-year LLB course.
Ques. What is the admission process for LLB in India?
Ans. Admission is almost entirely based on performance in law entrance examinations. There is no single national-level test exclusively for the 3-year LLB; instead, candidates must appear for state-level or university-specific entrance exams. Prominent among them are MH CET Law (Maharashtra), TS LAWCET (Telangana), AP LAWCET (Andhra Pradesh), KLEE (Kerala), PU LLB Entrance (Panjab University), and the entrance tests conducted by institutions such as BHU, ILS Pune, and GLC Mumbai. National Law University Delhi admits to its 3-year LLB through AILET, while some universities, including Delhi University, have in the past or are shifting toward conducting separate tests from 2025 onwards.
Ques. Which is better for a 3-year LLB in India: NLU or state universities?
Ans. A few NLUs offer a 3-year LLB course in India with a better placement record than state universities (INR 15-20 LPA). If a person wants to make a career in corporate or IP laws, they should opt for NLU, as it has better internships and placement opportunities along with a stronger national edge.
State universities like Faculty of Law-Delhi University, GLC Mumbai, ILS Pune, and BHU are far more affordable (INR 10K–INR 2 lakh total), easier to get into via state-level exams (MH CET Law, CUET, etc.), and excellent for litigation, judiciary, or local practice, with strong regional networks.

Conclusion
India offers two main LLB programs: a 5-year integrated program after 12th (BA/BBA/BCom/BSc LLB) and a 3-year LLB after any graduation. Top institutions such as NLSIU Bangalore, NUJS Kolkata, and GNLU Gandhinagar dominate both routes with excellent placements (INR 14–20 LPA) and high ROI, especially in government/NLUs. Government colleges are extremely affordable (as low as INR 170–INR 60,000 total), while top private ones cost INR 9–24 Lakh.
Admission is entrance-based (CLAT for 5-year, state/university exams, or AILET for 3-year), with a few merit-based options. NLUs remain the gold standard, but strong state government colleges (DU, GLC Mumbai, BHU, and ILS Pune) offer great value.
