All the big brands and big tech giants come to the campus for great opportunity opportunity for students you can apply for placements from the fifth semester itself.
College provides a lot of scholarships like merit cum means scholarship, inspire scholarship, and fee waiver scheme.
The faculty members are really good as they are great researchers in their respective fields.

Dislikes

But, if we talk about scholarship then it's a bad news that there is no institute scholarship for unreserved students but u can get it for other organisations like nsp.
The hostel rooms are also not good enough and lack cleanliness sometimes and have broken chairs/ tables, etc. at times.
The academic workload can be sometimes demanding, not always but sometimes, leading to stress and pressure among students.

Life at IIT Kharagpur through the lens of an inquisitive student

Likes

The campus is pretty clean and very enjoyable for someone who likes natural surroundings
The infrastructure is great for Indian standards and, the newer buildings like the AI department look world class
The faculty is extremely qualified and the teaching methodologies adopted by most of them is pretty advanced.

Dislikes

Quality of mess food could be improved drastically

Placement Experience:

IITs are known for their placements, and this is exactly where they shine as compared to other colleges. From 7th semester onwards, the placements begin and is conducted by the CDC (Career development centre) in two phases. The highest package was around 2.5 Cr, with the average being around 22 lpa. Top recruiting companies include Google, Microsoft, Optiver, other HFTs which accounted for most of the highest packages offered. Around 75% of the students got placed during the 2025-2026 placement season.

ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT AND FACULTY : Academics in IITKGP is highly well described and well enriched atmosphere and mostly all professors are supportive in all fields .
Campus Life And Opportunities : Campus of IITKGP is 2100 Acre in area Which makes it largest IIT College and campus life is full of opportunities in academic and extra activities like sports, Tech, Cultral, events and many more.There is a lot of fun.
INFRASTRUCTURE AND LEARNING FACILITIES : The infra is excellent, with full equipped labs with modern machines and tools, advanced reaseach facilities, library with huge amount of books of every subject and field.

Dislikes

Hostel : There are 21 hostels in college out of which most of which are older than 30 years which need maintenance and upgradation most frequent problem of water shortage is shit for students.
Mess : Every mess have different mess but food and meal in all hostel not satisfy students daily need as mostly there is paneer and potato only and variety is very narrow and whenever we complain for that there is always a excuese of budget.
Distance And Transport within campus : A huge campus is also a disadvantage for students which leads in waste of time during going to class and time table is such that we have to travel upto 6-7 km per day(as hostel to class room again and again).

Placement Experience:

Placement process in IIT KGP is well designed and functioned every year placements are done.Generally from seventh semester placement process is started for student and every student is eligible in campus placements as per requirements of company and according to their demand students are selected for final process of interview. Multiple company visit the campus annually and some companies visits campus are Microsoft,Google,Apple,Amazon,Infosys,Tata,Mahindra,Reliance and many hundreds of company more. No. of offers made depends on requirement of company. percentage of students selected for placement vary every year but appr. 70% studenst get placemets and rest apply for off campus placements as per their interest. avg. package of IIT KGP is 19,00,000. highest package is 3,65,00,000.

Likes

First class infrastructure and everything well designed
Academics management are good with cirricular and extra curricular activities
Professors are very helpful to each and every student

Dislikes

Girls boys ratio is unbalanced 1 is to 4 as per the seats
Placements support is good but they could make it better to reach every student

Placement Experience:

Placmenets in iit kgp is quite good and high compared to other iits or other engineering colleges many companies visit our college and mostly reputed compaines like amazon microsoft and honeywell comes and many students got selected through the college placement. 80% of the students are getting placed through off campus and on campus

THE KGP, THE TEMPO, THE PEACE

IIT Kharagpur doesn't discriminate among girls and boys. all the rules and regulations are same for both the gender.
Campus has a very beautiful night life you can roam inside the campus with your friends on a cycle and explore campus beauty
IIT Kharagpur has a very good infrastructure it has 2100 acre campus and provides facilities like a central library which operates 8am to 12pm.

Dislikes

poor connectivity form the city like if you want to catch a flight you have to go to kolkata that is around 110 km from campus.
Being the oldest iit some buildings are very old and need maintenance hostel rooms feels very old and boring.
some times people feels very loaded academics and i feel that pressure is quit higher here

Placement Experience:

For placement and internship we have CCD ( Career development center ) and it ensure that students are getting all the opportunities for interview with top companies like Microsoft, google, Goldman Sache amazon and so on. students can apply for internship in 5th semester and can sit for placement in their 8th semester, other than campus placement students can apply anywhere for off campus placement if they are meeting thier crieteria.

faculty support and infrastructure wise and placement assistance improvement in hostel and canteen facilities
everyone are engaged each other we have different clubs to interact each other with seniors also
placement services are very good they support us in each and every aspect

Dislikes

administrative delays some process like subject registration approvals it took longer than expected

palcements of my college is quite good every yesr more students are getting placed on campus 1)students who are enrolled in btech they are eligible in the 4th year in 7 th sem . no of offers are depending on the year because last year 1800 offers we get and compaines like microsoft ,flipkart,amazon,honeywell, samsung etc....

M.Tech in IIT KGP - What you need to know.

Likes

Campus is vibrant with lush greenery. Students are culturally active with multiple opportunities to showcase their talent.
Multiple opportunities for growth with frequent workshops and seminars.
Research enthusiasts will find an array of different top of the line equipments with mostly good guidance.

Dislikes

Hostel infrastructure is not well maintained. Triple sharing rooms are also being provided to m.tech students.
Mess food is bad and not always hygienic
Some faculties have let their job get to their heads and have quite the ego problem.

Placement Experience:

The placement scenario in IIT KGP is great if you're a B.Tech student. For M.Tech the placements are good but only in other departments like ME, CSE and CHE. Mostly students pursue research after M.Tech.

Very good academic infrastructure for students and teachers alike.
Students are given a lot of freedom regarding their non academic life.
Many other interests/hobbies can be pursued due to the facilities available.

Dislikes

The curriculum is old and dated, so may not be of as much use in current world scenario,.
The mess food varies from hostel to hostel, so your experience may very from your peers.
Extremely huge campus leading to long cycle journeys everyday to class.

Placement Experience:

The placement situation at IIT KGP is one of th e best among Engineering Colleges in India. With an average package of around 2200000 and overall placement percentage of around 80 (B.Tech+M.Tech). Students become eligible for placement either if they get PPO(Pre Placement Offer) from the company they are interning in in the 5th semester or when they are in the 7th semester when placement season begins. Around 1800 offers and 400 PPOs were made in phase 1 which includes 25 international offers. There were around 400 companies that visited. The highest offer was 21400000. Top profiles are Software, Data, Finance, Consulting, Quant and Core.

Culture of KGP is good.the campus is so beautiful the best thing
Biggest IIT campus and the first IIT always a flex
My friends here. The life here will be horrible if you dont have good few friends

Dislikes

The professors.some professors has knowledge about the subject but has no idea to teach
The hostel food is horrible some days.depends on your hall.wish that you get a good hall at 2nd year
There is a thing called illumination in which the hall which has tempo .the students of that hall should do lot of work. Seniors will drag us into it.we cant escape from that

Placements depends on your skills Usually there is a compulsory internship at the end of 3rd year If you didnt get it via college you should do it from outside but its compulsory And at the end of 4th year you get placement. Placemeng isnt 100% . If you have the skill you will get placed thats the criteria.many people say you are in IIT your life is sorted .but that aint the reality

IIT KGP in a sophmores eye

The departmental profesors are good and friendly
The sports facilities are really nice and anyone can go and participate
The people here are also very friendly and chill

Dislikes

The placement pressure is very high and not everyone is getting good placements
The ac facility is not available in hostels
The food was not good in the freshers hostel

Placement Experience:

The students can apply for internship via Career Development Centre in the beginning of their pre final Year. they can go for off campus intern whenever they want. Most of the goo companies would come and mostly for software finance consulting etc. The placements start in the second last semester as far as i know. The competition for placement is getting really high these days

Liked the Classroom Environment so much , there is centralised Ac in all the classes along with sufficient lights which keeps the focus while studying .
The Central Library which is considered one of the largest technical library of Asia is also fully AC with thousands of books and has the perfect studying environment.
Moreover, the Campus area which the largest holding 2100 acres is full of greenery and peace which not only calm the mind but also the body.

Placement Experience:

This course offers 4 semesters which a 2 year course and anyone who is pursuing this course is eligible for the placements after successfully completing his first year course work. On an average approx 40-50% of the student get placed and those who dont get off campus placements.
