Course Curriculum Overview

1) The curriculum definitely aligns with MAKAUT as well as gate syllabus, so super relevant no matter how you look at it. For practical knowledge everyone has to go for YouTube and we are no exception. 2) Labs are conducted regularly and you have to take the reading yourself and do the calculations, graphs etc yourself only, so the curriculum prepares one well for real life. 3) I wish equipments were more in EE Lab. As it's hard to understand the concepts easily when 7-8 students are using one single equipment. This is not the case in Chem lab where almost everyone gets one equipment each. 4) EE lab exam is super hard. You have to do every experiment, circuit building alone and take the readings alone as well. The not-so-helpful classes before exam doesn't help much either. 5) Assignments and class tests are extremely frequent and as much as I hate them, I have to admit those are the only things that help me stay disciplined and consistent with my studies

Campus Life

1) No annual or technical festivals that are huge to be honest. But almost on every weekend you get plenty of events organised by the numerous clubs. Most branches also have their own magazines where you can publish your writings, poems, paintings etc. 2) A good range of books and journals are available. We have books for every branches in engineering, some good books for practical exams too which help us a lot. And racks of books in pure sciences too. Along with story books and scientific journals. 3) Basketball, football and cricket are the only sports available on campus. I wish badminton and table tennis were offered too but unfortunately they aren't. 4) Student run clubs for drama, coding, writing, debate etc are there, which you can join from second semester. Oh right, there's also an archery club. So that's fun too.

Faculty to student ratio is average its around a professor handles a class of strength 80 and they are quite approachable Some faculties like ps neog sir are really awesome because of the way they teach and love their determination As such there wasnt any faculty which i didnt like There for each semester there are two exams and they are average in the case of difficulty Around 3-4 students may fail to clear the exams in a batch of 80 students

There are two fests mainly tecnoesis (tehnical fest) and incandescence (cultural fest) .mainly incandescence is the best fest as compared to others Sports and other facilities are there in our college and everyone has access to those There are also many clubs like gdsc,ml club, coding club and also clubs like dance club, music club

There is no such annual and technical festival. Library is very big and you can get all necessary books in both physical and digital form. Some classrooms are very old age but there are also some Seminar halls that are equipped with AC and Projector. In sports students play on their own. The faculty to student ratio is 1:80 and if we talk about faculty student relationship then the teachers comes to the class and complete their quota. They are very careless towards students. If we talk about exams then firstly there are MID SEMESTER EXAMS there is also 3rd one if you fail in the previous two.

Placement Experience

Accenture, TCS, IBM, Wirpo and various other top companies have seen IIEST Shibpur to be the best talent pool. Average placements are going up and average placements numbers are also heading towards the sky. My plans post degree is to pursue MBA as technical knowledge along with financial knowledge is what helps in making a man who can survive in this competitive world.

Faculty

Faculties are too good as all of them are someone who have n number of published research papers in their names. Our faculties set the toughest papers as they don't like mongering and they make sure they only set the papers based on what has been taught. So, if one pays attention to them, they will find it easy otherwise God save them.

So as I mentioned before, the faculties are great and best in class. They are friendly, as well as strict. You will definitely get help form them. They are very nice, at the same time very rude. I am form EE department, and I can confirm that the faculties of this department is best. My favourites are BB sir(EE), SKD sir (EE), DG sir (Chemistry) and SNDS mam(Math). But there are Rahul (Chemistry lab assistant) and AS sir(Chemistry teacher), they are very rude, not friendly and helpful at all. They just focus on reading, not learning. And their way of teaching is extremely bad. At last, the semester exams, For Btech, there will be 8 semesters, you have to pay 52k for each semester. The question pattern is set by MAKAUT, which is worst. The standard of questions is sometimes very high and sometimes very very very high. Definitely the questions aren't student friendly. You have to work so hard to get 8 CGPA, forget about 9.

Fees and Financial Aid

Here the fees structure is a bit complicated. I took admission in 2024 and my admission fee was 106400 rupees. Basically 100000 for admission, 5000 for WBJEE seat allotment and 1400 for ARCADIA(The cultural fest of AOT). And after taking admission, I'm paying 52000 rupees for each semester. Here you have to remember that the fees structure is increasing every year. For example years ago, the total admission fee was around 72000 rupees, now it has increased to more than a lakh. The semester fees has also increased. But I can asure you that this college is worth to pay. The faculty is well experienced, placement rates are amazing, the campus looks great and most importantly it's totally ragging free. You can also get all type of scholarships here like SVMCM and etcetera. The college also offers you the facilities of student credit card.

Course Curriculum Overview

?NIT DGP’s curriculum provides a solid foundation in core subjects, which is essential for students pursuing engineering or technical fields. The core subjects are comprehensive and aligned with other top engineering programs in India, covering theoretical knowledge and technical skills that are valuable for both industry and academia. ?skill based: Core engineering fields could benefit from modules on interdisciplinary skills, like product development or basic coding skills for non-CS branches, which can be increasingly relevant in today’s job market. ?Research Preparation: For students interested in further studies, especially in technical research, NIT Durgapur’s curriculum provides a strong foundation, though it might benefit from even more research-driven assignments and early exposure to research methodology. ? There could be a greater focus on project-based learning, where students work on comprehensive projects spanning multiple semesters, instead of smaller, isolated projects. ?Offering more elective options that allow students to explore interdisciplinary topics would add value. For instance, introducing entrepreneurship, design thinking, or sustainable engineering could help students develop a more rounded skill set. ? I think some of subjects are difficult to study so there must be some gap between the papers. And mainly for some subjects we can get shortage of time.

Course Curriculum Overview

I choose Electrical Engineering because I have not chosen it but my branch has chosen me . Just kidding! I want to learn the required skills to get the full of a practical engineer. As a first year student , I can only review the group-II subjects of First year which includes physics , chemistry , mathematics , Basic Electronics,IP,DSTM ,Graphics, Physics lab ,EC Lab, IP Lab .Every subject is good in terms of curriculum and teaching but I personally feel in case of IP (especially in IP Lab), VS Code should be encouraged as it eases the writing of coders.Macros can be used but IDEs like code blocks is not good if we compare with VSCode .

Faculty

Faculty to student realtionship is quite good . They are well approachable. They teach very well with full dedication and hardwork. There are 2 semesters in a year and each semester has two exams -mid term and end term.I don't have enough experience about the checking of exams and its system as I recently finished my first semester mid term exams. But I can tell you that questions will come from your class notes and previous years questions . Listen to your professors clearly and complete your daily tasks . Take class tests and attendance seriously . This will directly give you idea about the main examination.

Cricket, football, hockey, tennis, badminton training is given in campus, with inductions and good coaches. The library here is really great environment to study and work. The collection of books is really great.

Faculty

The faculty to student ratio is 1:140. The faculty dont maintain any relationship with the students, however most faculty are easily approachable to clear ur doubts or queries. Mr SP Tiwari was a very good maths teacher, most of the students understood what he is teaching. Whereas my electrical teacher Mr. Sounyabrata is not so good at teaching, all though he is very knowledgeable. His teaching style is not upto the mark. Most of the faculty are not so good.

Ques. How is the placement of ECE branch in BIT Mesra?

● Top Answer By Divyansh Singh on 01 Mar 24

Ans. You’ll receive ample placement opportunities at BIT Mesra, given that you understand electronics well. You may consider joining Robolution, which will give you an edge over the others. Qualcomm visits the ECE department with good offers. A few years back, it appointed 4-5 ECE students for a package of 15 LPA. If you are willing to put in the extra effort and learn coding, you may get into good IT companies. Some of them being- Microsoft, Amazon and IBM. Academically, the ECE department of BIT Mesra isn’t the most ideal choice. This is because the department faculty is strict, and the curriculum is tough. If you couldn’t get CSE at BIT Mesra, you can try for IT instead of ECE. The ECE branch requires a lot of effort and time, which can be overwhelming.Read more

Ques. Is the electrical engineering department the best in IIT Bombay?

● Top Answer By Advait Joshi on 21 Mar 23

Ans. I haven’t heard of many people who actually join Electrical Engineering because they want to genuinely pursue Electrical. Rather most students take Electrical because their JEE Rank did not allow them admission to any other branch. In fact, some even take Electrical Engineering and opt for minors that match with their areas of interest. When it comes to interdisciplinary subjects, IIT Bombay provides the perfect chance to do so. What usually happens is that students are unaware of their area of interest while choosing their branch during admission. As a result they end up taking disciplines that match their ranks rather than interests. However, if you are clear about your choice of branch, don’t hesitate and go for it without thinking much of your rank. Although difficult, you can always change your branch if you later regret choosing that specific branch. I always suggest aspirants only choose the branch on the basis of their preferences and not the placements. Even if you land a good job, you will never be satisfied if you are working in an area that does not intrigue or excite you.Read more

Ques. Which is better, EE at DTU or ICE at NSIT?

● Top Answer By Tithi Aggrawal on 04 Jul 23

Ans. There is no better branch between EE at DTU and ICE at NSIT. It's all about preferences and inclinations. To help you make an informed decision let's talk about both the branches individually EE at DTU EE at DTU is core electrical engineering wherein you are taught concepts related to power, grids, electrical machines, etc.  For placements, core companies like BHEL and companies in the energy field visit the campus.  ICE at NSIT This branch has Control Engineering concepts along with electrical, electronics, and computer engineering.ICE has very light coursework and it's easy to maintain a good CGPA.  You also get enough time for your passions and extracurriculars. IT giants like Facebook, Google, etc. Don't allow ICE students to sit for placements.  Core companies that recruit students of this branch include Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, and others.  Non-tech companies like BCG, Bain, and JPMC allow all students to sit for placements. NSIT has a larger batch size and thus the competition here is less than DTU for placements but it still it cannot match the brand value of DTU. In all, both DTU and NSIT have similar opportunities and placements so with the right mindset you can do well at both colleges. Read more

Ques. Which is better: Engineering Physics at IIT Bombay or Electrical Engineering at IIT Roorkee?

● Top Answer By Sumit Bose on 18 Mar 23

Ans. It would be suggested to pursue Engineering Physics at IIT Bombay rather than Electrical Engineering at IIT Roorkee.  When it comes to studying physics at IITB, there are some key differences between JEE physics and college-level physics. Here are some important points to keep in mind: In JEE physics, you study formula derivations after brief explanations of concepts and practice a lot of problems in that topic. College-level physics courses are typically more rigorous in theoretical and mathematical content, and problems are solved to help you understand the concepts more deeply. While EE does not have any pure physics courses after the first year, it focuses on making you an electrical engineer. Core courses include analog and digital electronics, signals and systems, network theory, electronic devices, microprocessors, power electronics, and some relevant math courses. EP, on the other hand, has core courses like quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, statistics, relativity, classical mechanics, waves and optics, nuclear physics, etc. There are also important math courses up to your second year. EP trains you in core physics concepts and prepares you for experimental physics and electronics, giving you many options for your career path. You can work in theoretical or experimental physics, electronics, statistics and stochastics, CS-related research, or pursue higher studies in physics. When choosing between IITB and IIT Roorkee, consider factors like the quality of professors, campus culture, and location. IITB has excellent professors, a beautiful campus, and great cultural and sports scenes, and is close to TIFR, which provides opportunities for collaboration. When it comes to placements, most EP students go for higher studies because they are passionate about physics. For EE, core and non-core jobs are similar to those for other courses in terms of job security and salary packages. Finally, the "brand" of IITs, especially IIT Bombay, provides a sense of job security that can be reassuring for graduates.Read more

Ques. Which branch should I choose: B.Tech (Electrical Engineering) in IIT Roorkee or Dual Degree (Electrical Engineering) in IIT Kharaghpur?

● Top Answer By Shruti on 03 Jul 24

Ans. According to me, B.Tech (Electrical engineering) from IIT Roorkee is a better option due to the following reasons: B.Tech electrical engineering is a 4 year program while dual degree (electrical engineering) is a five year program. This means that choosing IIT Roorkee will help you enter the workforce earlier. The B.Tech curriculum focuses equally on theoretical and practical learning. This will prepare you for industry roles.  On the other hand, the dual degree curriculum gives more importance to research and specialisation in electrical engineering. Here are the 2023 placement figures for IIT Roorkee and IIT KGP: Parameters IIT KGP (Phase-I) IIT Roorkee Highest Package INR 2.6 CPA INR 1.3 CPA (Highest International- INR 1.06 CPA) Top Recruiters (2024) OLA, OneByZero, SecPod, SIRION LABS, TCS Research, and others. American Express, Barclays, Chegg Inc, Flipkart, Google, Microsoft, Myntra, and more. Unfortunately, the branch-wise placements are not available for either of these IITs.  I would recommend you choose B.Tech Electrical at IIT Roorkee over Dual Degree in Electrical at IIT KGP due to the above reasons. Read more

Ques. What should I take, electrical engineering at IIT Delhi or CSE at BITS Pilani?

● Top Answer By Parth on 09 Jul 24

Ans. IIT Delhi and BITS Pilani are two highly reputed institutions for engineering studies in India. I am a second year B.Tech Electrical student at IIT Delhi. During my time, I was faced with a similar dilemma. But I ended up choosing IIT Delhi over BITS Pilani for my studies. I would recommend you choose Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi over CSE at BITS Pilani because of these reasons: Brand Value: IIT Delhi carries the prestigious “IIT'' tag  which holds more brand value than the “BITS Pilani'' tag. This will become important to you when applying to foreign universities for your higher education.  Fees: As a government institution, the fees of IIT Delhi is much more affordable as compared to BITS Pilani. This in turn, gives IIT Delhi a higher position in ROI (Return on Investment) because it offers even better placements.  Here are the important comparisons between Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi and CSE at BITS Pilani: Parameters IIT Delhi Electrical BITS Pilani CSE Course Fee INR 99,650 (for sem-1)* INR 3.32 lakh (for sem-1) Highest Package (Overall for 2023) INR 2.5 CPA  INR 60. 75 LPA Average Package (Overall for 2023) INR 17.60 LPA INR 30.37 LPA CTC Range (for 2023) - (IT branches) INR 11 - 38 LPA Campus Recruiters Microsoft, CISCO, Accenture, Brain & company, Jaguar Land Rover India Limited EY, HSBC, KPMC, HCL, IBM, TCS *This is the fee-structure for General/OBC students with family income>5 LPA. Thus, I would suggest you choose Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi over CSE at BITS Pilani.Read more

Ques. How good is IIT Delhi Electrical Engineering (Power and Automation)?

● Top Answer By Dipti Sinha on 03 Apr 23

Ans. IIT Delhi’s Electrical Engineering department has a number of branches like Communication Engineering (Communications Group, Electrical Engineering, IIT Delhi) Control and Automation (Control & Automation) Computer Technology (Computer Technology) Integrated Electronics Circuits (Integrated Electronics and Circuits) Power Electronics, Electrical Machines and Drives (Power Electronics, Electrical Machines, and Drives) Power Systems This allows Electrical Engineering students to choose from a wide range of topics and they don’t have to restrict their area of interest. However, to provide core electrical engineering education and research opportunities, there is a separate Electrical specialization in Power and Automation. Owing to the small batch size and top-notch lab facilities, IIT Delhi’s Electrical department is highly coveted and is funded by Industry donations and partnerships. The performance rate of the students of this department has been increasing over the past few years and these students continue to perform well in each batch.  However, it is important to note that academic rigor is high in this department and requires a high level of commitment. But your efforts don’t go wasted because of the excellent packages offered to the students of this branch. I have rated the program based on some aspects to give a better idea. Global recognition: Top 0.1% Scholastic Aptitude: Top 0.1% Work Ethics: Top 0.1% Placement assistance: Top 0.1% Program Support: Top notch  Infrastructure: Top notch  Faculty: Top 0.1% Research output: Not among the Top 50 global programs Do your part of the research and talk to people who have completed this program and then make the final decision.Read more

Ques. Which is a better option: IIT Bombay mechanical vs IIT Kanpur electrical vs IIT Roorkee CS?

● Top Answer By Vaibhav Bansal on 25 Jun 24

Ans. The general preference order is  College wise - IIT Bombay > IIT Kanpur > IIT Roorkee Branch wise - CS > Mechanical ~ Electrical. However, this is a popular trend, and you don't have to follow it. It is best to make a decision based on your individual preferences. Doing something that interests you is considerably superior in the long run to doing something you dislike solely for money since, after a few years, money no longer motivates you. Here are some information to make your decision easier:- The placement scenario for EE in IIT Kanpur is good and stands next to the CS department in the table. Though EE is the largest department when compared with others it still maintains its record well in placements. The NIRF Ranking of IIT Bombay is 3 , IIT Kanpur is 4 and IIT Roorkee is 5 . The Average placement at IIT Bombay Mechanical is 21.82 LPA with IIT Kanpur Electrical is 26.27 LPA and IIT Roorkee CSE is 22 LPA. More than 250 companies visited IIT Kanpur campus in 2023. EE offers specialisations like VLSI, SPCom, RF & Microwave, Power Engineering, Control & Automation . Placements for some of these specializations are  100 %, especially for VLSI, SPCom & RF. Keeping aside the public’s opinion, my preference order is  IIT Kanpur Electrical > IIT Roorkee CS > IIT Bombay Mechanical Read more

Ques. Which is better academically (preferably CSE and ECE branch), NIT Manipur. NIT Meghalaya, NIT Sikkim, NIT Nagaland or Tezpur University?

● Top Answer By Dona Ghosh, on 11 Nov 21

Ans. Before choosing an institute, think about what your requirements are. Here are some points that might help you make a decision. If your aim is a job in a corporate sector then the NITs will definitely be better options. Opt for either NIT Meghalaya or Nagaland.  Do not compare their placements with older NITs as it could prove disappointing. Tezpur University (TU) is also known to provide good placement opportunities but it is more concentrated to only the CSE department.  You may get placements from a few IT companies, but overall placements are concerned NITs are definitely better than TU. Students who are interested in learning and exploring research fields can opt for TU as well.  Tezpur University has very good faculty strength in ECE & CSE.  The two departments are much older too.  The CSE faculty and labs of TU are better than NIT Silchar.  TU has got a good research environment as there are multiple departments of Science and Engineering, which is not the case of the mentioned NITs. Therefore it is suggested that if you aim for an immediate job opportunity, go for NITs. For students who feel confident that they can get a job off campus or are more inclined towards academics and research can go for TU.Read more
