Course Curriculum Overview

4

We get into core related subjects in the third semester which makes it more interesting . There are many practical labs for every branches in almost every semester which makes us learn practical and helps us for preparing for the real world applications. The curriculum can be more beneficial if there are some subjects regarding mental health physical health etc it would be good for students especially engineering students The exam timetables vary from branch to branch the thing is that there might be a timetable in which you should write 4 exams in 4 days which makes it more hectic.except that i feel all are fine

Internships Opportunities

4

Companies that offer internships are amazon, qualcomm, Texas Instruments and many more they usually come by the end of the third year . They check one's capacity capability skills and also the cgpa of the student for offering an internship.

Placement Experience

4

From the 6th or 7th sem one can go for pre placement or internship their cgpa and skills are measured for this. There are a lot of good companies coming for placements in our college , companies like GOOGLE , AMD , Qualcomm, Amazon, oracle, ola , microsoft , apple etc comes with a higher offers There was a total of 1274 placement offers this year. The highest package of this year was 62.44 LPA and average package was 14-15 LPA The placement rate of Btech program was about 82.20 percentage . Also this year our college up ranked from 19 to 13th in engineering becoming the second best NIT in India

Fees and Financial Aid

So basically the fee structure is like different for the first semester a bit higher due to some extra charges for admission and all ,the latest fee details are as follows for a four year Btech course Admission fee - 2,500 Tuition fee - 62,500 Other fees - 5,000 Student activity fee - 2,000 Medical fee - 2,000 Hostel seat rent - 5,000 Caution deposit - 10,000 (refundable) Emergency fee - 12,500 (one time only) Hall establishment fee - 5,000 Mess advance - 17,500 Which totally sums up to 1,24,000 rupees for the first sem. Also note that the fee is always prepaid for every semester and for the first sem if you are allocated through josaa you will only have to pay the amount by subtracting the josaa fees you paid. The second semmester fees are as follow: Tuition fee - 62,500 Other fee - 5,000 Student activity fee - 2,000 Medical fee - 2,000 Hostel seat rent - 5,000 Hall establishment fee - 5,000 Mess fee - 17,500 Which sums up to 99,000 This is similar for the orher 3rd,4th,5th,6th and 8th semesters For 7th semester there is an extra money as convocation fees 2500 and souvenir fee of 500 So for 7th semester total - 1,02,000 So in total for a 4 year btech the total fee you will have to pay is 8 lakhs and 20 thousand rupees The fee waiver are as follows For SC/ST/PH/Family income less than 1 lakh rupees ,the tuition fee is completely exempted For students having family income between 1 lakh and 5 lakh per annum, the tuition fee is one third of the tuition fee that is 20,833 rupees The amount mentioned against mess advance is an approximate amount Fee structure for BArch or Dual degree (5 year course) Is same as that of the btech fee structure there will be two more semester with 99,000 fee So in total the fee would be around 10,18,000 rupees For Int Msc students The tuition fee is reduced to 7500 the rest all is same Total fees will be 4,68,000 rupees There are various scholarships available for different categories of students

Campus Life

5

There are different programs conducted in the college which include cultural and technical programs some of them are Cosmopolitan which is a cultural festival in which different countries and states represent their cultures this is usually conducted in October then comes the big tech fest in rhe collegewhich is innovision which is held at november then there is roots representing the clubs in the college which is held in September. Then there are celerity nights in which famous celebrities like singers come and perform this is usually conducted in april The cosmo and innovision are of 2-3 days programme where celebrity night is of one day. Our campus has a huge library with lakhs of books the library is of 3 floor excluding the ground floor with huge collections of books on various domains. All the lecture halls are very neat and smart each lecture hall has a capacity of 180-200 or more students there are two projectors on both sides with the display of a smart board which is in the centre this makes the visibility better for students who are sitting far or back. Sport facilities are so far the best I have seen we have an olympic size swimming pool 4 - 5 volleyball courts for common uses other than that each hostel has their own gym , badminton courts ,volleyball courts and basketball courts. The campus also encourages sports enthusiasts with proper training and making them fit for inter NIT competitions. There is also very huge football ground and also a cricket ground and followed by two handbal courts. Also there are various clubs present here for different domains which helps one improve rheir skills and interests Some of the clubs are Cyborg for robotics Cinematics for videography Third eye for photography Trr and bmr for automobiles Clarion for debating Hacknitr for coding Fusion for fashion Tarang , synergy for dance Drill n bass for music And many more these are so helping in making the mental health of a student better

Hostel Facilities

5

The hostels are huge and vast there are alot of rooms in every hostel one room is shared by two which contains 2 cots ,2 chairs and 2 tables the room is quite spacious and there is a fan and window for ventilation also we can keep air coolers in the room during summer but we should pay for it . The room has a wifi port for internet connection. The toilet facilities are also good the cleaning staffs come most of the days in week and clean the toilets and we can ask them to clean our rooms once in a week. No ironbox or kettles are allowed in the room this disappoints . For washing rhe clothes there is a washing machine room which is used by everyone we can wash and keep it for drying where we want to , there is also a laundry setup inside the campus, the guy comes and collects the clothes and returns it in a week after washing and ironing for washing it is 7 rs per dress and for both it is 15 rs . But there are presence of dogs in the hostel premises which will not be accepted by all so this also a drawback ,but the dogs don't harm us. The mess facilities are good the food is goot in taste and healthy when compared with other colleges , we get both non veg and veg, weekly five days we have non-veg in any one of the meals mostly lunch or dinner there will be alternatives for vegetarian peoples. The hostel will be given or allotted when you get the admission in this college so there is no need to worry about it. Also for the UG students for first year they are in a different hostel with Phd students ,this is to avoid the raging issue between seniors and juniors. After first year they can choose any of the hostels in the campus there are 7 boys hostel and 3 girls hostel The boys girls ratio is 3:1 because mostly girls doesn't opt for engineering

Admission

I had a choice for chemical engineering in NIT Calicut, kerala my home state but i was not interested in chemistry so I dropped that choice and preferred electrical engineering in NIT Rourkela because choosing this would be more related to core and computer field which also was the one I was interested in. The admission procedure is that you should clear JEE Main with a good percentile or rank so you can get into any of the NITs I chose this college because this was the maximum limit that I could get with my JEE main ranks

Faculty

3

The faculties are abundant in this college there are very good ones also some bad ones, the relationship between faculties and students are good there are faculties who conducts extra classes for doubt clearing and all , also faculties support our interest in any research or project works they guide us or helps us in the best way the can . There are no specific faculty that i like more as all are very good to me and interacting but there are also students who don't interact with these faculties ,there is also faculties who doesn't know the students because its a huge class with a strength around 120 students so remembering everyone is also a very tough task for them. There are some profs who are very bad ti students in giving marks especially in electrical engineering these professors doesn't teach us properly and then they want us to learn externally which is not possible bcz even we try they try to reduce our marks that's so disappointing. The exam patterns are as follows There will be a midsem exams (30 marks) Endsem exams (50 marks) Internal marks (20 marks) Out of 100 only 35 mark is required for one to get P grade (pass) which is also a good thing to clear some tough subjects. The exams are not that difficult but some subjects like electrical machines are tough but if you work hard then its easy to pass there are students who fail to clear the exams mostly due to their playful nature If one fails he/she can write the supplementary during the summer break that year itself there will be classes for two months and both midsems and endsems would be conducted. The curriculum is fine but there are some subjects that are not at all required for us being taught like biology, humanities, bio linguistics etc etc i don't really understand why an engineering student should study these subjects

Interview Experience

4

There was no group discussion there was an online meeting to ensure wether the documents we submitted online are original or not ,there are no conceptual interview before or after the admission. The only thing is you should clear JEE exam that's it.

Night Life

4

There are a lot of hangout spots in and around the campus. There are many cafeterias small shops, canteens inside the campus almost in every corner of the campus and the small tea shops close by 6 - 7pm While some restaurants are open till 10-11pm inside the campus. The main hangout spot around the campus is Plutone mall which is around 11km from the college the mall is so big it has food courts , cinema theatres and many more things ,the mall closes by 10-10:30 pm. Night life in rourkela is nothing as most of the thing closes by 9-10pm after that its all dark it doesn't mean that isn't safe it's safe but there is nothing to explore in night. There is no time limit in entering or leaving the hostel but some time you may have to write the reason why you are going out from the hostel if its at 12-1 am in morning but mostly its not there. But there are some time limits for the first year students they should be inside by 9pm this is to avoid raging issues . There are biometric register

Reviewed on Jan 9, 2026(Enrolled 2023)

Course Curriculum Overview:

1. Relevance & Comprehensiveness (Rating: 7/10) The course curriculum at SOA is updated frequently compared to state government colleges. Why I chose this: I was attracted to the fact that the syllabus includes modern electives like Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and Data Analytics starting from the 3rd year itself, rather than waiting for the final semester. Real-world Prep: The curriculum is designed largely to crack placement interviews. There is a heavy focus on Aptitude and Core Coding subjects (DS/Algo) which helps in getting a job. However, for deep research or R&D roles, the theoretical depth is sometimes lacking. 2. Areas for Improvement Teaching Methods: A major issue is the reliance on PowerPoint Presentations (PPTs). Many faculty members just read off the slides. I would prefer more "Whiteboard Teaching" for mathematical and logic-based subjects. Lab Records: We spend hours handwriting practical records/files which are just copied from the manual. This is a waste of time. This time should be used for live coding projects or hackathons. Outdated Subjects: First-year students (even in CS/IT) are forced to learn heavy mechanical/civil concepts. While basics are good, the depth of these non-core subjects should be reduced. 3. Exam System & Difficulty Frequency: It is quite hectic. We have 2 semesters a year. Each semester has 2 Internal Assessments (Quizzes/Mid-sems) and 1 End-Semester Exam. Basically, you have an exam every 1.5 to 2 months. Difficulty: The exams are Easy to Moderate. It is not very difficult to pass. If you study the "Class Notes" and "Previous Year Questions" for 3-4 days before the exam, you can easily score an 8.0 SGPA. The checking is lenient for passing, but strict if you are aiming for a 9.5+ SGPA.

I actually have a very little idea about placements of our uni few seniors says there is not a single company visiting, while few were discussing the highest placement which was something like 20lpa or something,i think companies do visit our campus it may not be much but i have definetly seen one or two companies visiting. I plan to do MBA after my Btech so i am not that serious about whether i am getting placed or not.

Gandhi Engineering College (GEC Autonomous), Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
Reviewed on Dec 22, 2025(Enrolled 2023)

Course Curriculum Overview:

I mainly chose this course because the college is Autonomous, which allows them to update the syllabus faster than standard university colleges; seeing subjects like Python and Data Science in the early semesters really influenced my decision. The curriculum is decent for getting placed in service-based companies like TCS or Wipro since they focus heavily on the basics and aptitude, though for high-end product roles or research, you have to put in extra effort yourself. I definitely think they need to reduce the theory load and focus more on practical coding because sometimes it feels like we are just writing assignments instead of building things. Also, the junior faculty rely too much on reading from slides, which really needs to change to make classes more engaging. As for exams, it feels like we are always writing them since we have two internals and one end-semester exam per term. They are moderately difficult and the checking is strict, so you can't slack off, but the tight schedule can get quite exhausting.
