PMEC Admission Dates 2026

Admissions to PMEC for the 2026-27 academic session were anchored by OJEE counselling, based on JEE Main scores for fresh B.Tech candidates and OJEE Lateral scores for diploma holders. The 2026-27 cycle has concluded with students reporting to allotted institutes in August 2026.

The 2027-28 admission cycle is expected to follow a similar annual pattern. Tentative dates based on previous OJEE cycles are listed below.

Entrance exam requirements differ across PMEC programme families. The table below summarises the course-wise exams accepted.

PMEC Courses and Fees

PMEC offers 9 B.Tech specialisations, lateral entry B.Tech, 7 M.Tech specialisations, and a PhD programme under BPUT. Total B.Tech fees are uniform across all branches at INR 1.22 Lakhs for the full 4-year duration, placing PMEC among the most affordable government engineering colleges in Odisha.

Hostel accommodation is available for both boys and girls at up to INR 37,360 per annum. Lateral B.Tech total fees are computed across 3 years at INR 33,400 in year 1 and INR 29,400 in years 2 and 3.

PMEC Admission Process

B.Tech Admission

PMEC B.Tech admission follows OJEE counselling conducted by the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination Board. Fresh candidates are ranked on the basis of JEE Main scores. Eligibility criteria are as follows:

• 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
• Minimum 45% aggregate marks in PCM (40% for SC/ST candidates)
• Valid JEE Main score or OJEE score

The selection sequence is: JEE Main / OJEE registration, online counselling registration on ojee.nic.in, choice filling and locking, seat allotment, fee payment and online reporting, then physical reporting to institute.

Computer Science and Engineering seats are the most competitive, with closing ranks in OJEE counselling substantially lower than branches such as Production Engineering or Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. Candidates from the General category typically need stronger JEE Main scores for CSE seats at PMEC.

B.Tech Lateral Entry Admission

Diploma holders in relevant engineering disciplines may seek lateral entry into the second year of B.Tech through OJEE Lateral. Eligibility requires a polytechnic diploma with at least 45% marks. Admission is through separate OJEE Lateral counselling rounds held concurrently with the regular counselling schedule.

M.Tech Admission

M.Tech admission at PMEC is merit-based through OJEE PG counselling. Candidates with a valid GATE score are preferred. Eligibility:

• B.Tech or B.E. in relevant engineering discipline
• Minimum 50% aggregate (45% for SC/ST)
• Valid GATE score or OJEE PG rank

Candidates may apply through the OJEE PG portal. Selection is followed by document verification and reporting to the institute.

PMEC Placements

PMEC placements in 2023-24 were the strongest on record for the college. A total of 247 students received job offers during the season. The highest package was INR 7 LPA, with Airtel and Adani among the top-paying recruiters. The average package was INR 3.2 LPA.

Mechanical Engineering was the top-placed branch, with over 100 students receiving offers. Recruiters span power, manufacturing, telecom, and IT services sectors.

PMEC placements are concentrated in core engineering and manufacturing roles. A sizeable portion of graduates also appear for GATE to join PSUs such as NALCO, NTPC, and OPTCL, or to pursue M.Tech at IITs and NITs. This GATE-and-PSU pathway is a recognised career track for PMEC alumni, particularly from Electrical and Mechanical branches.

PMEC Scholarships

PMEC students from SC, ST, and OBC categories are eligible for government-funded scholarships administered through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Post-matric scholarships and NSF schemes cover tuition fees and maintenance allowances for eligible students.

Applications for NSP scholarships are submitted through scholarship.gov.in each academic year. BPUT also extends merit-based financial assistance to academically outstanding students from government-affiliated autonomous colleges.

PMEC Campus and Infrastructure

The PMEC campus covers 80 acres at Sitalapalli in the Ganjam district. It is the only government engineering college serving the South Odisha belt, which includes districts such as Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, and Kandhamal.

The campus has 11 academic departments, a centralised library with digital subscriptions, and dedicated computer labs for each branch. Mechanical, Production, and Automobile departments are supported by fabrication workshops and design studios. The college also functions as a BPUT Nodal Research Centre, with PhD facilities in select departments.

Hostel accommodation is available on campus. Boys are housed in Ekalabya Hall and an additional block, while girls reside in Falguni, Vaidehi, and Urmila Halls. Hostel charges are up to INR 37,360 per annum for both boys and girls.

PMEC vs IGIT Sarang vs GEC Keonjhar

Odisha aspirants targeting government engineering colleges through OJEE counselling frequently compare PMEC with IGIT Sarang (Dhenkanal) and Government College of Engineering Keonjhar, as all three are BPUT-affiliated government colleges with similar fee structures and OJEE-based admissions.

IGIT Sarang, established in 1956, holds the highest NAAC grade and the deepest research legacy among the three. PMEC offers the strongest regional advantage for students from South Odisha districts and provides PhD-level research access under BPUT. GEC Keonjhar serves the mineral-belt region of north Odisha and is a preferred choice for students from that catchment area. All three institutions offer government-level fees under the OJEE counselling framework.
