IIT Kharagpur Experience: Academics, Culture, and Beyond

The course is Mtech in computer science and data processing. It's under mathematics department.its a very good course in terms of placement. majority students came from msc math background and some from physics and electrical or electronic background.based on gate they are selected. In the course you learn various subjects like artificial intelligence and machine learning,data structures and algorithms, object oriented programming, computer network, database management system,big data analytics, computer architecture, statistics, cryptography, graph theory and algorithms. All of them very useful for placement purpose. Lab are conducted in machine learning and dsa in two semesters. Most of the teachers are from math background they prefer more mathematical asptof the course.one course is computer architecture it's not that much useful for placement. Mid sem are there any then end sem. Class test also happen. Mark distribution is normally end sem 50, mid sem 30, class test 20.

Normally during first' phase aug to December mtech students are not eligible for internship. After first they are eligible.lots of companies came during that time also.stipend can be anything based on the company, major roles are in data science or software development role.stipend range can be 20k to 100k, even more.try to do some ML projects it may help. but majority mtech student didn't get internship.they apply mostly for off campus internship. Other possible things they can do internship under proffesor guidance also.

Almost 100% placement if you consider on campus and off campus placement both.most of the students go for software development or data science roles. Some goes for assistant professor roles in private engineering colleges. After third semester students are eligible for placement upto completion of their course. Major companies that hire are IBM, kal atm, siemens, arrise solution, virtusa, BEL,meesho, tiger analytics, ltimindtree, hcl technologies, hero fincorp, marcedes, SOA, mpocket, air india, morgan stanley, Just dial, Ering, HSBC, Bank of America and lot more. Offer ranges from 8lpa to 35lpa. My plan is to join job after completing my Mtech. Almost everyone got placement here.

In two years total fees around 2 lakh. In first sem it's much ,later it becomes little less.each sem approx fees is 50k .for reserved candidates their tution fees are waived. In mtech you will get 12400 each month in the two year tenure.their are certain others scholarship but you have to apply seperately for that. Like daad and some institute scholarship.

Very good. Campus Life.lots of clubs are there where you can participate.spring fest in Jan Feb time normally. Other than tech fest khitishj.lots of book in library fully air conditioned.lots of activities,gaming are there whole two years in the campus.fun activities are also there.

Single or double rooms are provided based on randomly. Rooms are decent.if you got new hostels they are best .fans , lights are there. Some hostel has personal attached bathroom some has common. New hostels have ac in them.in my hostel meal was not that good as expected. Veg and non veg both options are there.during starting of your semester hostel is alloted. registration process are very smooth. Each month meal is changed. But the quality is not good ar all . Taste is not up to the mark and oily food.my only concern was that.dont expect home like food,in rooms regular cleaning happens but if they ask you money don't give them.any issue happen IIT solve them .

From gate exam we get admission purely based on gate scores. I got in IIT Bombay and IIT Roorkee in education technology and semiconductor device mtech program but it's more placement oriented and good if someone looking to switch in data science or software engineer roles, so I choose it. Almost 100% placement.

There are lots of faculty. we have one faculty of our department who qualified two times jee exam with rank two. He is very famous.all of them are well qualified.total four semester. In first and second semester there are courses. In last two only project work is there for Mtech students.all question comes from whatever teachers has taught in class.in IIT theoretical questions very rarely comes. Majority is mathematical.they are of decent good quality based on proffesor. majority students pass.there relative grading system works.

No ,only valid gate score is required for the admission .gate mathematics is the major paper most of the people are from msc mathematics and physics,ECE,EE this are minor papers.in the website in can find out the last few years cut off.for gate one can prepare by self or can take any coaching.

You can roam anytime outside your hostel. Night life is the best in IIT. night canteens of hostel are open till 3 am in the morning. You can eat anything there.normall people go around the main building, clock tower,and adda place.library closed at 11 pm but during exam time it remains open 24/7.cafeterias like dominos,ccd and some others placed closed at 11 pm. Whole campus looks during night.
