Likes

Campus is vibrant with lush greenery. Students are culturally active with multiple opportunities to showcase their talent.
Multiple opportunities for growth with frequent workshops and seminars.
Research enthusiasts will find an array of different top of the line equipments with mostly good guidance.

Dislikes

Hostel infrastructure is not well maintained. Triple sharing rooms are also being provided to m.tech students.
Mess food is bad and not always hygienic
Some faculties have let their job get to their heads and have quite the ego problem.

Course Curriculum Overview

Course curriculum covers all the main aspects of Biochemical engineering. All materials are to prepare a student for real life situations. To prepare for exams, group study is essential. Overall the exams are tough but if class is well attended then exams will be fine.

Class Size: 24Course Fees: INR 30000 per year

Internships Opportunities

The professors have good connections throught several renowned institutes. It is quite easy to get an internship approved when you have the LOR from such professors. Even without it, the IIT tag alone gets you places.

Placement Experience

The placement scenario in IIT KGP is great if you're a B.Tech student. For M.Tech the placements are good but only in other departments like ME, CSE and CHE. Mostly students pursue research after M.Tech.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yearly tuition fees is 22,100 rupees. Caution money and other deposits include a total of 6000 rupees. A one time fee of 7200 rupees must be paid during admission. Hostel fees are 37,710 rupees per semester including mess fees. Teaching Assistantship is provided for GATE qualified candidates which amounts to rupees 12400 per month.

Campus Life

Spring fest and Kshitij are the two main cultural and tech fests that are conducted on an annual basis here in IIT KGP. Otherwise, many cultural events and festivals are celebrated across the campus from time to time.

Hostel Facilities

Hostel facilities aren't that good. Rooms are triple sharing. Mess food is bad. Portion sizes are also pretty small. Hostel registration is done at the time of admission. We are not allowed to rent a room outside the campus.

Hostel Fee: INR 76000 per year

Admission

I applied to IIT Guwahati and IIT ROORKEE. Compared to those IITs, kgp offers better research opportunities. IIT KGP requires a good GATE score with a 700+ cutoff. For my discipline in particular, GATE BT and GATE XL scores are accepted.

Faculty

Faculty to student ratio is almost 1:1 in our department. Most faculties are good but some are an arrogant lot. Unfortunately, they are the ones in higher positions. One of the best faculties is professor R.K. Sen with an H index of 50+. He is quite the simple man and motivates students by the same demeanor. There is one mid sem and one end sem per semester and yes they are difficult. Usually most pass.

Night Life

There is access to gym, cafes, a central library and a student activity centre for all students. As for hostel, there is no curfew and students can be outside the whole night. It's okay to say that IIT KGP wakes up at night.

Placement Experience:

This course offers 4 semesters which a 2 year course and anyone who is pursuing this course is eligible for the placements after successfully completing his first year course work. On an average approx 40-50% of the student get placed and those who dont get off campus placements.

A student's perspective.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course structure is quite good. Only need the guidance which course is good of us. Syllabus is quite lengthy. I think theoretical knowledge is good but need of some practical knowledge is required. Laboratory work should be divided so that each students experience the best.

Placement Experience:

At the end of 3rd semester, students become eligible for campus placements. 1000 of company visit campus every year in January and December month. Placement takes place in two form one in December and other in January. Like IBM, puma, ICC bank, Deloitte, ABG, Lenovo, etc. highest package is about 2.68 crore per annum, average 15lpa According to different profiles. Students should have more than 8.5 cgpa for good placements. I will join a good company after completing the degree.

Remarks:

Get admission for only getting degree don't expect much. Every 2 years alumni meeting happens in our college you can find some help from old students but don't expect much from this college. After completing no one will provide job.

Remarks:

Currently, the institution In engineering category, it is holding the 19th position in the NIRF rankings among all the institutes of the country. Other colleges I applied for is IIT Delhi because it is nearer to my home and is well reputed college and have a great field in Tech.I opt this college because I am interested in Tech field.
