Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is extremely relevant when it comes to making the students industry ready. My decision to choose this course was more influence dby the rank range I fell into during counselling. The exams are not very difficult as I mentioned in the previous segment. It could improve as much as the courses in other top colleges (basically, an overall improvement in the system that ensures the enrollment of students in courses, where the majority is actually interested in exploring the course subjects in detail, rather than opting for it just to get through college and get hired or involved in something completely unrelated to the degree)
Internships Opportunities
The internship opportunities are varied, with great stipend and project based selection process. The CDC helps in internship during the third year. Most of the major companies that provide placements do provide internship opportunities as well (the name of the major companies are mentioned in the segments above).
Placement Experience
IITs are known for their placements, and this is exactly where they shine as compared to other colleges. From 7th semester onwards, the placements begin and is conducted by the CDC (Career development centre) in two phases. The highest package was around 2.5 Cr, with the average being around 22 lpa. Top recruiting companies include Google, Microsoft, Optiver, other HFTs which accounted for most of the highest packages offered. Around 75% of the students got placed during the 2025-2026 placement season.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees for a single semester were revised recently to around ?1,40,000. It includes tuition fees, hall management fees and hostel/mess fees. I am not completely aware about the specifications of the fee revision for reserved categories. You could find it on their website. There are various scholarships for low income groups, B.S students. Banks also offer student loans during the time of admission, supplemented with revised fee structure for the reserved categories.
Campus Life
Campus Life is pretty smooth if you can handle the academics part. There are two major fests in year. The Social/Cultural fest is called 'Spring fest' which includes performances from various artists and other student groups. 'Kshitij' is the largest technofest in the entire country. It takes place a week before the spring fest and a lot of competitions take place during this period. The infrastructure is pretty great amongst older IITs with wifi access around the campus, several auditoriums, food courts, swimming pool and tennis courts, several sports complexes, a central library (with wide range and accessibility of books and journals), and the B.C Roy hospital which provides free medical facilities for students. There are several clubs and societies based round either social/cultural stuff or tech/consulting endeavours.
Hostel Facilities
There are around 21 hostels in the campus. There is great WiFi inside the hostels, no timing restrictions and the infrastructure is decent. The food quality is also decent with minor disappointments here and there. The registration process is pretty smooth with digitalised room allotment and freedom in choosing your roommates.
Admission
I did not apply for any other colleges apart from IIT Kharagpur. I did apply for better branches in the same college but could not get into any due to thr rank range I fell into after JEE Advanced. The admission process is digitalised for the most part, facilitated by the college ERP system. There is also some offline document submission that takes place during the induction period (which lasts for around 4 days).
Faculty
Most of the professors are quite approachable, highly qualified and a lot of them possess exceptional teaching abilities. The course curriculum is as relevant as other courses offered in top colleges across India (which one might argue is not very relevant to the modern advancements). It does accomplishment it's task of making the students industry ready which is assessed by the semester exams which one could experience is much easier as compared to the qualifying exam i.e the JEE Advanced exam.
Night Life
Nightlife is lively with no restrictions on moving in and out of campus, hostels and availability of food via various food courts till late in the night. There are several hangout places in the campus like the Nehru Museum, the Adda, the night canteens, etc
