What Students Say
Likes
- The college provides a moderately good infrastructure so it is more or less good. However some lab equipments have gotten old so upgrading those would be appreciated.
- The teachers and students are very friendly so interacting is very easy. Teachers are mostly experienced and quite knowledgeable in their field of expertise. However the college follows the curriculum suggested by makaut which feels outdated.
Dislikes
- The college doesn't give any options to play anything in college in their free time so that's an issue in my opinion. Also college isn't keen on giving NOCs for internships. Also they don't tend to provide funding to projects developed by students.
Course Curriculum Overview
Curriculum includes subjects which will develop the base of the subject. Like in my case it is Bachelors in Computer Science. However the curriculum doesn't include any subjects which would assist us in real world. The curriculum has alloted enough time for each subject to be completed and each teacher does a good job in teaching their respective subject. There are 4 internal exams however theory exams are only 2 amongst those and those are very easy.
Placement Experience
Studentsbecome eligible for placements from 7th semester. Various companies such as TCS, Infosys, Accenture, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Godrej, etc. come for placements. Earlier many offers used to come however in the recent years the number of offers made have reduced significantly. highest package comes around 10 to 11 lakhs per annum with average being 4-5 lakhs per annum. I have kept my options open after completion of degree in doing further studies that is Mtech or getting into a job whichever seems appropriate at the situation.
Fees and Financial Aid
Total fees for the entire course is 6.25 lakhs. During admission we were charged 96,500 rupees and the second semester was 81,000. After that the fees ranges between 73,000 to 75,000 per semester. There aren't any additional charges apart from these. Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship is present which can be availed by the students. However it gets cancelled if any student fails to qualify for any subject in any semester. No discount is made based on students having any categories. However students can get TFW(Tuition Fee Waiver) based on the ranking secured in the WBJEE exam.
Campus Life
Mainly two fests are held,Tech fest and cultural fest. Tech fest is held in the month of march or april(usually varies in between these months) called prabuddha and a cultural fest called Yagvik which is held in the month of May. Also a literally fest called Rhetorica is held in the month of January. Books are there in the library but have gotten old now. They were mostly bought around 2013 and very few newer books are present. All classrooms are equipped with a projector. Sport facilities re more or less non existent inside college. The college doesn't promote running any such groups to prevent any future clashes or altercations.
Admission
Well I had a drop year and I got this college at first round of counselling so took admission here. Apart from this I had appeared for exams of other colleges as well like Manipal, VIT, SRM but didn't choose them as those are far from home and were much more expensive than my current college. I had also appeared for BITS but couldn't clear their cutoff. In my current college they take direct admission based on wbjee rank, from counselling as well as management quota. The most preferred exam is wbjee and the admission process is very easy and the people in the admission cell are really helpful. They guide you really well and don't misguide you into taking any other course or subject.
Faculty
There are sufficient number of faculties available in the college. We can say like 1-2 faculty per 20 students. Every teacher is more or less approachable as all are friendly in nature. Faculties I like:- Debraj sir- Encourages building projects. Bikash sir- Senior teacher really knowledgeable. Tapas sir- Very knowledgeable. Faculties I dislike:- AKD sir- Sir is very strict and seems less approachable, however he has opened up in recent times. Makaut conducts our exams. It consists of four internal exams and two internals for practicals and the rest are finals. Many students fail to clear the exams as they study at the very last day before the exam and so fail to qualify. The curriculum is a bit outdated in my opinion as they haven't included anything which will be necessary in real life when we will get in jobs.
Interview Experience
No interview or anything sort of that was held. However if the parents want they can have a conversation withthe department HoD or the faculty members. Admissison criteria was mainly dependent on marks of class 12 and rank of jee.
Night Life
No gym is present, cafeteria was therebefore but now food trucks are hired by the college. College closes off at 5:30. The college begins at 9:30. Hangout spots include library, food trucks as well as shops present outside the college premises where students usually go to eat. The locality is quite safe at night also as it is in prime newtown area.
