Throughout the course, hostel facility is availlable, if you have a relative living in the locality, special permission is required for commuting as a day scholar. In my room, each person gets their own cupboard, table, chair, bed, fan, 2 outlets, ethernet port. We have 1 balcony. For registration you need to do it though ERP during the admission process itself.

there are basic facilities provided in the room like cupboard, fan, one table and chair for each person. The meal quality is good in the mess. There are no specific registration process. The hall of residence is allotted to you randomly in your first year, and after that, also, it is allotted randomly, the fees is awarded affordable and around 15,000 per semester. There are PG available outside the campus, but it is compulsory majorly to live in the campus because it is very accomodative and all the residential complexes are also there.

The hostels are allocated by the HMC department. Hostels can be singly, double or triple accomodation type. Each hostel has a mess allocated to it. The quality of food is great and sanitation is also good. Taste may not be very good. There is no separate procedure for hostel registration. It is done along with admission. In the 2nd year hostel is changed and it remains the same for 2nd,3rd and 4th year.

so as i am first year ug student therefore i got a triple shared room in lal bahadur shastri hall of residence. we have nice facilities in our rooms and in our hostels. like we have a general store in the ground floor, stationery shop and nescafe is also on the ground floor . so we are very near to our basic facilities. meals quality is better or like above average in mess. cafe and other restaurents have a fantanstic quality meal. there are almost 1800 students in our hostel so bonding and interaction is very nice . hygine is very carefully handled as each row has 2 washroom compounds which are regularly cleaned every morning. ambulence service to our hostel is very good i found here. and further our hostel rooms are cleaned every week. each room has there separate beds, tables, chairs, drawers and cupboards. security facility in our hostel is also good as we have a regular check by security guards in our rooms whether we are feeling good and we are safe or not.

Out of 20 hostels, the size of rooms in every hostel is different. The best rooms are available in
Vidyasagar Hall of Residence for UG students. This hall provides single-room occupancy. In fact, many other halls like Meghnad Shah Hall of Residence and Patel hall of Residence to provide single-room occupancies, it’s the superior quality of the environment at Vidyasagar Hall that steals the show.
Other multiple occupancy halls that are pretty good include the LBS Hall of Residence. This hall is usually allocated to first-year UG students.
The worst hostels in terms of facilities are Patel, Azad, and Nehru. The rooms of these hostels were initially made for 2 students each but now they have become triple room occupancy.
PG students are allotted the MMM, BR Ambedkar, and VS Hall of residence. The BR Ambedkar Hall of residence has the best facilities and rooms among all the three halls of residence.
Facilities inside a room include two sockets, one LAN port, a steel bed, a wooden chair, and a wooden table. Every hostel corridor has an excellent wifi connection also.
IIT Kharapur has around 18-20 hostels. There are 2 main girl hostels that will be allotted to you way before you reach IIT KGP for admission.

You are also allowed to change your rooms after 15-20 days provided that you inform the hostel authority of the same and get registered under the new room.
For UG girls IIT KGP has two main halls of residence: Sarojini Naidu Hall (SN) and Mother Teresa Hall(MT).
SN Hall
The Hall firmly believes in its motto: Sanskrita Striya Shakti. Some highlights of this Hall are
MT Hall
This hall is similar in almost all aspects to SN Hall. Specifically talking about girls, the hostels are safe and there is a sense of freedom like no other.
Most MTech and Ph.D. female students are assigned the following hostels
All these hostels are in close proximity to the main building and entrance thus making it easy for female students to commute to and fro from the hostel.
A typical room in these halls of residence consists of proper bedding, a table, a chair, and a LAN port. Every hostel has its own mess faculty that works under the supervision of the hall management committee or private contractor. The best part is the flexible environment posing no restrictions on girls and no discrimination between boys and girls.
