Faculty

The faculty in our college is the best as mostly all the faculty have master degree in architecture and planning and has good communication skills to approach students and students are very comfortable with teachers to ask doubts and discuss about work. Also during the lecture there are more then 2 teachers in class and divide us in different groups for each of the faculty to help better communication with teachers and clear our doubts.

Campus Life

The campus life was the best for me as the faculty was very good and helpfor. Our library has more than 6000 books that helps us to do our assignment and making notes. Classroom size is big enough for 80 students but only 60 benches are available in class 1 bench for each students and for teachers there is a stage infront of board to reach out the students in the back that helps a lot.

Course Curriculum Overview

The real life challenges provided through the course help in maintaining interest through the course. The curriculum partially prepares you for the outside world. The concepts and ethics of the profession are taught well while the professional exploration remains to the student. The faculty can include advanced technology as an important part of the teaching learning process to make the process interesting. Timely reviews for the assignments will help in improving the quality of submissions. The overall curriculum can be shifted towards a practical method and allowing interaction with the industry experts. On-site exposure will enhance the learning process. The exams are of two categories- written exam and viva voce. The viva can be difficult depending on the external examiner and the work produced by the student. The written exam is easier - based on theory learning through the course. If the understanding of the concepts is clear, the written exams are easy.

Faculty

Every subject has 2 faculties per division for a class strength of 40. Design studios have 4 faculties per class. The current strength of the college allows for 2 divisions and the theory lectures are conducted together for both the divisions. The faculty is cooperative but again depends on your impression on them. Biases in the markings on favouritism is not a common practice. There are 2 exams- in sem and end sem. The in sem is conducted at the college level while the end sem is conducted by the university. There is a possibility of failure in the end sem exam. Though there is an option of rechecking. If no, the student has to reappear for the exam in the next semester.

The campus is very lively. Everyone going to classes, coming back and discussing about architectural stuffs. Their are many clubs like sports club, traveling club, nature club, dance club, music club, etc.. The infrastructure is modernistic sustainable. Their is library with a lots of books only for our course. And smart classrooms in very 2nd classroom. The canteen is also lively with facilities and students. Overall it's very friendly and learning environment.

Fees and Financial Aid

Total course fees is 5.5 L for 5 years. Which some I paid and some I will be paying. But after some years of my joining, according to COA our course is reduced to 4 years. So, probably it would have decreased to 4.4 L. As our per Semester fee is 55000/-. And for scholarship you need to be in minor and you need to discuss it with our examination section.

Campus Life

Since all the programs are held by the student body alone with no help from the faculties and considering our busy schedule there are 3 programs held consistently Onam, Christmas and our annual celebration 600 which happens normally during October or November Many other programs also come in between like for the Valentine's Day Halloween Diwali etc but that depends upon the schedule of the students The college puts a great deal into sports such that even the faculty is engrossed and included in the martches A lot of clubs are there each which puts up there own programs throughout the year

Faculty

The faculty ratio is set at 1 mentor for 12-13 students. The facutlies are approachable but some of them are extremely judgemental I don't like charudathan and krishnan potti especially potti being irregular to classes all the time and giving away our ideas to other students without any care and unecesary inappropriate critisizing The theory subjects are relatively easier to score but we do not get time to study due to our studio works

Course Curriculum Overview

You'll indulge in a lot of painting and are related stuff. Well since Architecture is not only about art, there are subjects which will use up your brain cells. You also get to go to study trips too! The ride is not smooth- everyday would be a submission day , everyday would be a love-hate relationship with the course. Internal reviews, external reviews, viva and jury, presentation and assignments, written exams...theyre enough to keep you busy throughout. Since its Affiliated to vtu, the system does seem not so updated to date. You cannot expect to have a month of holidays after each Semester too. Dont dream of having a pleasant vacation break.

Faculty

Faculty- very friendly and polite. You can have a chill conversation any moment. They're just one call away, very approachable. Well the main subjects in the course would be architectural design and mmbc. You'll have history of architecte until 5th sem. You'll have multiple assignments including sheets, presentations, poster submissions, jury anf theory exams being the cherry on the cake.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee of my batch of this course in the college USAP(University School Of Architecture And Planning) under the university, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprasth University was roughly around 1,75,500 (One Lakh Seventy Five Thousand And Five Hundred only). the fee structure is built in such a way thay every year the fee is reduced to some amount lower than the fee submitted in the first year. I am studying in the first year so i just have heard about this but not experienced it. Their is no difference in the fee structure of students who are in various categories. The only benefit you get is in the councelling where the students with categories will be prioritized to choose the college of their choice. Around the year students are provided with various oppourtunities for scholarships etc. for scholarship students need to achieve an equivalent score required to achieve that scholarship. Various aid of financial oppurtunities are also given to students by the government to the students for various purposesand activities.

Course Curriculum Overview

In the forst year the faculty will make you do completely dumb and irrelevant stuff which is mostly not related to the real life. You will surely feel like and think in a way that why you are doing all this, but slowly the curriculum will get difficult and would have real world applications. In the starting you should improve your drafting and most importantly you should procastinate your work and should learn the importance of time management.

Campus Life

The main event that happens annually in the college is our annual cultural fest called Nava.they are held every even semesters. The library has pretty good collection of books, library is very standard comparing to other facilies of the college. There is seperate two classrooms for theory classes other than design studio, studio has seperate drafting table for each student.with a huge touch flip screen in each studio. There is sports club who conducts sports day, amd there is annual sports called TPL including football volleyball, athletics etc inter batch wise. There are several clubs which are active in the campus like photography, sports, dance ,arts ,film club etc above all there is an active student councel called SSA(society of student architects).

Faculty

For every design studio there will be 3 faculties each and each teacher for respective theory subjects. Faculties are highlu experienced architects and have better knowledge in the real world. Course has a total of 10 semester with one major design project and university exam in every semester upto 8th sem. After 8th semester there is internship program and its jury in 9th sem and a thesis project in 10th semester. There are two series exams before the main exam. The exams are comparitevely easy as the course mainly focuses on the major design project rather than theory subjects. I like vidya maam as she was very creative and make us to think and do creatively. I dont like akash sir as he make us to do things his way and no design freedom.

Faculty

The relationship between faculty and students is amazing as there is interactions happening out of college hrs, some faculties personally help you out for students who are critical they provide a mentor so that they can cope up with the challenges it's very positive environment, there are 2 main exams mid semester and end semester. There are not many Exams as there are assignments which are allotted and we get marked on that , the end sem exam are conducted by sppu (Pune university) there are only 2 written exams in first year and depending on years the number changes , mostly the important part is giving jury for design and viva then there are submissions which occurs in one week where each day is dedicated to a subject to submit the final Portfolios.

Campus Life

There are multiple clubs which play very important roles in college life there are activities like live sketching every week with urban sketching clubs where all of them are invited to sketch together share works make contacts very helpful, there are sports events which are conducted mainly for the yearly fest and it's between clubs of the college (four clubs ) . There are dance activities and social media is also involved which is very important for exposure. We have Instagram pages for all the clubs, and we post all the information posters on to be updated and help people participate in club activities .

Faculty

The faculty to student ratio is quite reasonable, as there is only one class per batch. All of the faculty members are approachable but all do not give the insight we seek. There are sessionals that are conducted throughout the semester, but they can be cleared easily if the student is up to date with their work. There is one semester end examination, which is the final exam, and as per our syllabus, there was only one written exam and the rest were practical, all of which can be cleared easily. Students do fail to clear the exam but the percentage is minimal, due to either attendance issues or when they fail to meet the standards of the end jury.

Course Curriculum Overview

The curriculum is more condensed that other colleges', so it makes it easier to tackle multiple things at once. The course prepares us for real world applications through their dual internship program, which is a strong point in their curriculum. If the course in itself had more real world applications, instead of very superficial ideas, it would be more helpful The exams are a hurdle, but it comes with the rigor of the course, and it is something students end up adapting to over the course of 5 years.

Ques. Is NIT Calicut good for architecture? What can be said about its campus life and placement services?

● Top Answer By Tina Chand on 26 Mar 21

Ans. One of my friends has studied B Arch from NIT Calicut in the batch of 2020. In his view, the following facts are highlighted to help a student get a brief overview of this institute. Placement If you consider this institute for the placement opportunities, then it can be stated that L&T is the main recruiting company for Architecture. Thus, this stream has the least placement record, approximately 60%, compared to the other engineering branches. In the following, a brief overview of the placement facts of NIT Calicut is highlighted. Criteria NIT Calicut Placement statistics 80% Highest CTC 49.75 LPA Lowest CTC 10 LPA Average CTC 15 LPA Recruiter Came in 2020 400+ Number of Placement (2020) 647 College Life This is similar to the life that is shown in the movie 3 Idiots. You have to please your respective teachers, or you have to be extraordinary in some subjects such as Design and Art, to earn more score. You have to be strong emotionally so that you can face all the struggles easily. Thus, this 5-year course will teach you to face all types of real-life confronts in the field of Architecture. Besides, travel is a compulsory part of this engineering branch. Ques. Which is better for studying architecture in India: SPA Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, or IIT Roorkee?

● Top Answer By Richa on 03 Jul 24

Ans. It is better to choose a college with an IIT tag because it will give you security regarding placements. IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee both have a good placement record, and their IIT tag makes them a better choice for Architecture students. The NIRF 2023 Ranking in Architecture of IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur is 1st and 3rd respectively, whereas the ranking of SPA Delhi is 5th.  IITs offer a lot of facilities which aren’t offered by other top architecture colleges in India. They have extensive libraries, best sports facilities, clubs and societies, etc. If you like extracurriculars as much as studies, IIT Roorkee and IIT KGP will provide you with world-class facilities for the same.  Apart from design and architecture, you’ll be able to study a host of other subjects and varied electives at IIT R and IIT KGP. This will place you in a much better position academically.  Many new professors have joined the Architecture department at IIT Roorkee in the past few years. They are young and have a modern perspective which resonates with today’s youth. IIT Roorkee has the best and the biggest hostels compared to any other college, and everyone can avail a single room for the entire course duration. Every hostel room at IIT Roorkee has access to the fastest internet speed through LAN, without any limitations. Here is a comparison between SPA Delhi, IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur: PARTICULARS IIT ROORKEE IIT KHARAGPUR SPA DELHI NIRF 2023 Architecture Ranking 1 3 5 India Today Architecture Ranking 2023 2 1 4 Placement Percentage (B.Arch) 90% 71% 77% Average Package (B.Arch) INR 18.34 LPA INR 16 LPA INR 7.2 LPA After considering all the factors, I would suggest you choose IIT Roorkee for your B.Arch. The next best option would be IIT Kharagpur. Read more

Ques. Which college should I choose for a B.Arch. under the NIT/SPA?

● Top Answer By Shivani Behera on 31 Aug 21

Ans. Firstly a hearty congratulations to you for scoring a good rank in JEE Main. However, it is quite difficult to get a seat at SPA Delhi in this rank. The 2nd best option can be SPA Bhopal. Moreover, SPA Vijayawada is relatively newer and cannot be trusted. I have friends studying at both Bhopal and Vijayawada, from what I've heard, Bhopal is a better option. SPAs are purely design institutes and thus the exposure would be greater.  Since your chances at SPA D are quite on edge, you can instead look for the following colleges in order of preference:  NIT Nagpur> NIT Bhopal> SPA Bhopal> NIT Jaipur> SPA Vijayawada and so on. If you want to go for NITs, choose the one with better infrastructure, weather, and a diverse crowd. There are many other good institutes as well but do your proper research and take the right decision for yourself. Read more

Ques. Should I join IIT Kharagpur for B.arch?

● Top Answer By Senjuti Gupta on 23 Mar 23

Ans. There are two aspects to the question. You asked. Is the bachelor of architecture course at IIT Kharagpur good? To answer this part, I will say with certainty that IIT Kharagpur is an excellent institute. However, as far as architecture is concerned, your first choice should always be the elite schools of architecture like SPA or CEPT. This is mainly because IITs are known for their technology and not architecture. Should a person who's only interested in physics and math, go for architecture or not? If you are genuinely interested in physics and math, then this will be one of your strengths and will prove to be useful in the journey of architecture. Architecture requires problem-solving skills apart from artistic skills. There are many students who are average in drawing but have excellent ideas and designs. To broaden your knowledge about art and architecture you can read books.Read more

Ques. i have completed civil engineering diploma.. how i join b. arch in sir jj college of architecture

● Top Answer By Riyansh Jha on 22 Mar 23

Ans.  you can pursue Bachelor in Architecture even after completing a diploma in Civil Engineering. The scope for Architecture is increasing day by day in India. The Bachelor in Architecture course is related to the design of bridges, multipurpose buildings, industrial areas, residential area etc. Owing to many ongoing dam and bridge projects in India, there is a huge demand for Architecture students. Since you have completed a Diploma in Civil Engineering, B.Tech in Architecture is the most logical option for you. The candidate who has completed a diploma in civil engineering is eligible for the architecture engineering course through the lateral entry scheme offered by the Engineering colleges in India. Under this scheme, you are eligible for admission for the second year in the Engineering course provided that you have either completed  Diploma In Engineering  B.Sc course For you it’s the former case, and thus you can avail the lateral entry scheme and get admission in Architecture. Now specifically talking about Sir JJ College of Architecture, some key points regarding the eligibility criteria are For B.Arch, you should have passed (10+3) Diploma in Engineering/ Technology with Mathematics as a compulsory subject Candidates should have scored a minimum of 50% in NATA (i.e. 80/200) If you belong =to SC/ST category, 5% relaxation is offeredRead more

Ques. Is MANIT Bhopal a good college for a B.Arch?

● Top Answer By Aarti Ahuja on 11 Nov 23

Ans. MANIT Bhopal is a good college for Architecture. But a college completely devoted to Architecture and Planning is a better choice. At such colleges, one has access to a strong alumni base. Apart from that, we get the right outlook for the field and a central library full of new architecture books. These colleges have digital labs with new architecture software. The crowd over there is completely devoted to the field of Architecture. These colleges organize dedicated seminars and guest lectures on Architecture and Planning. It is a huge boost to one’s self-esteem as an Architect in making. At NITs/state engineering colleges, our engineering friends receive placement one year ahead. But, one has an almost negligible chance of campus placement. SPA/CEPT won’t offer placements either, but this won’t be as demoralizing. Their strong alumni network allows us the chance to work in a firm through a senior’s recommendation. Thus, I would recommend you opt for SPA, CEPT, or other Architecture colleges for your B.Arch.Read more

Ques. How is the B.Arch. course at MNIT Jaipur?

● Top Answer By Souvick Gupta on 10 Oct 23

Ans. You should opt for architecture only if your interest lies in this field. It shouldn’t be a backup option for you. This is because the field involves Arts, Science, Maths, and Humanities, all together. You’ll do well in this field only if you like architecture. As far as MNIT Jaipur is concerned, it isn’t the best place for architectural studies. They’ll offer you limited practical exposure, and the curriculum hasn’t been updated for long. The infrastructure of this department is pretty average, they don’t organize any educational trips, and only a few faculty members are good. I wouldn’t recommend MNIT for your B.Arch. Instead, try to look for some better alternatives.Read more
