What is Executive MBA?

Executive MBA is a management postgraduate degree that is specially meant for working professionals with extensive experience. It is designed essentially to educate job seekers, managers, entrepreneurs, technocrats, and other business leaders.

Executive MBA programs rely heavily on teamwork with a strive to achieve a common goal. Students pursuing this course from the Top MBA colleges in India get to study management topics like Marketing, Human Resource Management, International Business, and Microfinance. The course curriculum also introduces them to Strategic Management and Executive Communication.

The course is best suited for those who have good IT skills, aptitude skills, analytical skills, and experience in the management field.

Executive MBA Admission Process

Admission for an Executive MBA takes place mainly through entrance exams. Some Colleges like SP Jain take in students if they have a good work profile and many years of experience. The most important eligibility is to know about the field you are working in and have a deep understanding and insights about the market.

  • Entrance Exam - The most commonly accepted entrance exam is GMAT. Most IIMs consider GMAT for an executive MBA. A 750+ score on the GMAT is considered an ideal score. CAT is also accepted by some of the IIMs like IIM Kozhikode, IIM Shillong, IIM Rohtak, and the score is valid for up to 5 years.
  • Language Test - Some of the Executive MBA programs like IIM Bangalore’s EPGP and IIM Udaipur’s PGPX also require a language test. These programs include international exposure.
  • Group Discussion - Group Discussion is there to test your communication skills. In order to perform well in this round, you should be updated about current affairs happening around the world.
  • Essay Writing - The Writing Ability Test (WAT) is considered an integral part of the admission process as this test enables the B-school to know more about the candidate’s goals and aspirations. WAT carries a huge weight so it needs to be prepared thoroughly.
  • Personal Interview - PI is the final round and is considered to be the most crucial round because here your overall personality will be judged. The panel will look for distinct personality traits in a candidate and then decide whether he/she would be able to add value to the program or not.

Campus Life

For me the campus life was all about the things I can learn from the Alumni meet, industry talks, quizzes or competitions because I wasn't a lover of cultural activities. That's why I appeared in academic related events only and they were sufficient enough for me to learn about the quality our institute provided in its campus facilities. Sometimes I used to go to the canteen for refreshments and that was really a great experience to go there and interact with great personalities.

Course Curriculum Overview

The fact that this executive programme is offered with association of the highly popular Washington University makes it match the best of international standards. The faculty, technical support, Interaction activities, industrial visits etc thing's made my overall experience at IIT Bombay the most memorable part of my life which I will remember in the years to come. The whole EMBA programme was spreaded over a time period of 18 months that covered all aspects of the domain.

Course Curriculum Overview

The entire course is of one year and hence we have a total of two semesters and the examinations are held at the end of the semester so there are only two semesters in total.

Admission

To get admission, I had to first make sure that I could fulfil the eligibility criteria that is to score 50% in bachelor's degree from a recognised university and then we should have a 2 years work experience.

Campus Life

The activities for the candidates are great as students of every field organize the activity according to the turn wise format decided by the university. Tech-fest is an activity where students explore and get hands-on experience of new technology. Every student is from an almost economic background so there is much unity without any discrimination. The gender ratio is almost equal.

Placement Experience

Jaro Education believes students themselves create job opportunities and it is true because, after this master's degree, I have sen hardly anyone without a job. The academics are very useful at the time of placement interviews as they ask several questions based on education. The institution provides six months of internship with an average stipend at various firms.

Course Curriculum Overview

Our Executive MBA program was 1 year and 6 months long and it was adequate enough to upscale my corporate understanding. Our course curriculum was very thorough. The first two semesters were designed in order to provide the students with a holistic view of the management program. For the final semester, students have to opt for specialization. Since I already had experience in the financial sector, that's the reason I opted for Finance as my specialization.

Placement Experience

Companies visit our campus during the placement drives organized by our college. Students are offered job roles for the profile like managerial, consulting, operational, etc. The packages offered have a scope of improvement, but that literally depends upon the corporate tie-ups. HDFC, Future General, Orchid Hotel, Pearls Jewellers, RBI, Lake Fashion, etc. were some of the names that visited our campus for the recruitment process.

Course Curriculum Overview

Course curriculum is specifically customized for the working professionals. It is aimed at upgrading the existing knowledge-base of a working professional. And it was true to that. I had pretty good knowledge of financial management, and the course literally helped me gain insight in this particular domain. Apart from that, I studied many different subjects including organizational behavior and business communication which was an added plus.

Admission

Entire admission process was simple and direct. I was looking to pursue an MBA and I got to know about the executive MBA later. Only those candidates can apply for the executive MBA who have at least 2 years of relevant work experience. I downloaded the application form and submitted it with all of my academic details. I opted for this ISBM because they have a branch here in Kochi which is near my house.

Ques. Is FMS Delhi a good option for a MBA executive program?

● Top Answer By Shikha Thakur on 28 Dec 22

Ans. Yes, pursuing an MBA Executive from FMS Delhi is indeed a very good decision. This is because my brother was in the recent batch and according to him these are the reasons that make it a good choice ROI: The fees charged at this B School are very less in comparison to other B schools. Rigor: The MBA Executive Program is quite rigorous with classes 6 days a week. Regular exams, sessionals, projects, and assignments make it a bit frustrating but in the end, they help you in clearing semesters. Faculty: The faculty for this program is very experienced and knowledgeable.  Mixed batch: The diverse profiles of your peers make it a more challenging and thrilling experience. The batch has doctors, engineers, CAs, Armed forces officers, PSU employees, and IT professionals. Duration: 2 years Degree: An MBA degree from Delhi University is worth it in the end.  Read more

Ques. How good is the EPGP course at IIM, Bangalore?

● Top Answer By Snigdha Roy on 29 Jul 21

Ans. The EPGP programoffered by IIM Bangalore was developed for a different audience. It is for students who want to apply directly for leadership roles in the industry. Also, sponsored candidates can also prefer the program. Well academically, it is also as demanding as PGP, with more detailed casework and discussions. There are exams and quizzes each month and the placement is rigorous for mid-level roles in the industry. The program leaves the studying to you so it's on you to build a takeaway for yourself. It is at par with 1-year full-time MBA programs in India, such as ISB, IIMA PGPX, and IIMC PGPEX. This is a short brief on the EPGP program of IIM Bangalore. Hope it gives you some clarity about the program.Read more

Ques. How good is IIM Shillong's PGPEX programme and how good are its placements?

● Top Answer By Rishabh Singh on 12 Feb 24

Ans. My brother received an interview call from IIM Shillong for their PGPEX program. This was a few years back. He wanted to join the course because he felt it would be beneficial for his corporate career. The teaching model at IIM Shillong focuses on developing Asian economies like China.  The PGPEX is comparatively affordable at IIM Shillong, compared to other management schools. But the top management schools host international teachers as visiting faculty for their courses.  Now here is the catch. The placements of IIM Shillong are entirely student driven. My brother reached out to a faculty member who was clear that the college offers its students a platform, but it can’t guarantee placements. During placements your entire profile will get you an offer, not just your ‘IIM Shillong’ tag.  After careful consideration, my brother decided to not opt for PGPEX at IIM Shillong.Read more

Ques. How good is the PGPEx program at IIM Shillong?

● Top Answer By Harleen Sethi on 27 Jan 23

Ans. There is often a misunderstanding about placements at IIMs after course completion. It is important to understand that placements are entirely student-driven and depend on the individual's efforts and abilities. Many PGPEX programs at IIMs have a significant number of students from IT services, and these students may not be as diversified or knowledgeable about other industry segments. This can create a gap between the companies and the students and may result in a lower placement rate for some students.  Unfortunately, many students who enroll in PGPEX programs do so based on their academic profiles or high scores on entrance exams, rather than their knowledge or experience in other industries. As a result, students who come from non-IT backgrounds may be more successful in securing placements due to their diverse understanding of general management. This is a common issue at all IIMs, and even IIM-L and IIM-I are taking steps to reduce these risks.Read more

Ques. Is MDI GURGAON a good option for an MBA executive program?

● Top Answer By Sagardeep on 07 Mar 23

Ans. MDI Gurgaon is a great choice for an executive MBA program and is at par with other top-tier schools like IIM A, B, C, L, IIFT, FMS, XLRI, and IIT Delhi DMS. The 3-year executive MBA program for working professionals is extremely good, with the same course and faculty as that of the full-time one-year executive MBA and two-year full-time residential MBA program. It's an excellent institute and is even better than some of the newer IIMs. However, it's important to note that the fees for the 3-year executive MBA program at MDI Gurgaon have increased enormously over the last few years and are almost 10 lakhs. If you're looking for other options, IIM Lucknow's Noida campus also offers a similar 3-year executive MBA program with fees of Rs 10 lakhs, and classes are held on weekends and weekdays. IIFT Delhi is another option that offers a similar 3-year executive MBA program with fees of Rs 6.5 lakhs and classes on weekends. IIT Delhi also offers a similar 3-year executive MBA program with fees of Rs 4.10 lakhs, with classes on weekdays. FMS Executive MBA has fees of Rs 1 lakh only. It's important to choose your education loan wisely, especially when considering the high fees for some of these programs. Make sure to do your research and compare the options before making a decision.Read more

Ques. Should I join IIM Indore's one-year MBA course (EPGP) or continue working, given the bad placement scenario for the course? Or should I try for better colleges in India?

● Top Answer By Nitesh Kumar on 02 Jan 23

Ans. The placement opportunities for an Executive MBA at IIM Indore or In fact any other IIM are very limited. They depend on the batch itself and may be good or bad depending on the current batch profile and expectations. Moreover, people don’t pursue EMBA to get placed in a high salary package. They already have a job with a high package. What they are looking for is an enhancement of their managerial skills and the IIM tag. So I will not recommend you leave your high-paying job and pursue EMBA especially if you are looking for a better CTC. Not even other B Schools will get you a high package right off the bat. But if you are still adamant about pursuing the program you may take a study leave I suggest.  An MBA helps you in the long run and not instantly. You should be willing to take the risk for maximum results.Read more
